Happy Friday! I'm just back from a few days of vacation and am here to share my five for today. Let's get to it ~
Taylor Jenkins Reid is back with a new novel! This one marks a bold departure from her previous works, transporting readers from the glitz of Hollywood and the rhythms of rock 'n' roll to the high-stakes world of 1980s NASA. This historical fiction delves into themes of ambition, identity, and forbidden love against the backdrop of the Space Shuttle program. Here's the summary ~
Joan Goodwin has been obsessed with the stars for as long as she can remember. Thoughtful and reserved, Joan is content with her life as a professor of physics and astronomy at Rice University and as aunt to her precocious niece, Frances. That is, until she comes across an advertisement seeking the first women scientists to join NASA’s space shuttle program. Suddenly, Joan burns to be one of the few people to go to space.
Selected from a pool of thousands of applicants in the summer of 1980, Joan begins training at Houston’s Johnson Space Center, alongside an exceptional group of fellow candidates: Top Gun pilot Hank Redmond and scientist John Griffin, who are kind and easygoing even when the stakes are highest; mission specialist Lydia Danes, who has worked too hard to play nice; warmhearted Donna Fitzgerald, who is navigating her own secrets; and Vanessa Ford, the magnetic and mysterious aeronautical engineer, who can fix any engine and fly any plane.
As the new astronauts become unlikely friends and prepare for their first flights, Joan finds a passion and a love she never imagined. In this new light, Joan begins to question everything she thinks she knows about her place in the observable universe.
Then, in December of 1984, on mission STS-LR9, it all changes in an instant.
Fast-paced, thrilling, and emotional, Atmosphere is Taylor Jenkins Reid at her best: transporting readers to iconic times and places, creating complex protagonists, and telling a passionate and soaring story about the transformative power of love—this time among the stars.
2. Elimino!
We played a new game on vacation that was so fun! Elimino was developed by two sisters who donate a portion of all proceeds to charity. The game is quick to learn, easy to play, and fast-paced. Everyone can play. It would make a great game to throw in your travel bag or play on family game night. I'm definitely adding this one to our game collection!
3. Fly Swatter
Summer is almost here, and that means more chances to enjoy meals outdoors! Keep pesky flies at bay by keeping a couple of these handy fly swatters on the table. They're perfect for camping trips, backyard BBQs, picnics—anywhere those annoying bugs like to show up!
Are the flowers on your hummingbird feeder looking a little worn or faded? Freshen it up with these high-quality replacement flowers! Just pop out the old ones and snap in the new — your feeder will look like new in no time!
5. Ever feel like this...
I am going to have to read Atmosphere! I am so upset in regards to my hummingbird feeder right now and I’ve lost some of those flowers but mine are metal. We have a raccoon that is slurping up all the feed out of two feeders. we finally put a GoPro camera out there last night to catch him in the act, he even drugged one of my feeders over to another patio!
ReplyDeleteI've not heard of that Elimino game, it sounds like fantastic fun and hahaha! My plants really do need to try harder.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know they sold replacement flowers for the hummingbird feeders, that's such a great idea. I always think of Bette Midler's character in Beaches when she's cleaning up all the dead plants and calls it suicide... plants need to be hardy to survive around me.
ReplyDeleteI found myself checking out that fly swatter on amazon! Does it work agains mosquitos too, you think?
