Today I'm thinking about Mother's Day. It's just a few short weeks away and I've been trying to think of gifts for my mom and mother-in-law. It's sometimes hard to come up with that special token of your appreciation that expresses all you want it to convey. Some years I'm spot on and others I know I miss the mark. (When you miss, those are times that it's the thought that counts, right?!?) But when I'm on, I LOVE seeing the excitement in the gift recipient's face when they open the box and see what's inside.
Over the years, I've received some great gifts from my son Ian. One of the best Mother's Day gifts I have received from him were my wind chimes. I absolutely love listening to the musical sound as the wind blows. I can sit on the porch and listen to them all day long. I've even been known to reach up and move the weight myself on days when there isn't enough wind to move it. With each note, I think of Ian and how much I love him. Makes me smile every time.
Sometime I'll have to tell you about the VERY BEST gift I got from him and Kayla for my birthday -- but that's a story for another day. Back to Mother's Day~
When I was hunting around the internet for ideas, I came across a couple I thought could be great for the right mother.
This Popcornopolis 4-Cone Classic Gourmet Popcorn Gift Basket would be great to accompany a gift certificate to your mom's favorite movie theater.
Or for the mom who loves to cook, how about Ina's cookbook Barefoot Contessa: How Easy Is That: Fabulous Recipes & Easy Tips. (You might even get to reap the benefit of some great new dishes!)

What about this hip Sakroots Artist Circle Yoga Sling Backpack that's lightweight and easy to carry. How cool would your mom look carrying her yoga mat into class with this baby slung over her shoulder?!?
So do you have any ideas for my mom or mother-in-law? I still have nothing. Hoping something comes to me soon!
I'll leave you with this video. Have you seen it? I swear I cried like a baby every time I watched it.

I just finished watching that video... crying here. Oh my, that was the most touching thing I've seen in a long time. The look on some of those moms faces. Awesome! Okay, pulling myself together...do you know one of the best gifts my mother told me I gave her years ago (she's passed now) but she use to tell me it all the time. I wrote a love letter to her expressing how I felt about her. See, we didn't always have a great relationship so when the healing was done, I felt the need to tell her before it was too late. Attached it to a bottle of wine and of all the things I gave her that is the one thing she loved most. When I went through her things after her death, I found the letter she kept. Okay, crying again...enough. Later.....
ReplyDeleteIt is hard to choose good gifts! I'm not sure what I'll do this year. I love the cookbook idea.
ReplyDeleteThat yoga bag is amazing! Not something I would have ever thought of for a gift, but it would be a great one for my mother as she has been taking a yoga class.
ReplyDeleteI haven't given any thought to Mother's Day - oops! My MIL returns any, and every, gift we've ever given her because she'd rather have money so for her all we do is go to Pasta House (her choice) because Mom's get free spaghetti on that day and its cheaper that way. Luckily she hasn't been able to pass me off as a Mom yet, not to mention I'm not a spaghetti fan.
ReplyDeleteAs for my stepmom, we usually do a day at the park with a BBQ and whatnot. I guess that's what will happen this year.
We aren't really big on gifts at my house, because I have more than I need already. My kids make me things out of cardboard and even those get recycled once we have plenty of pictures. The biggest deal about my Mother's Day, the thing I look forward to every year, is my husband making me Eggs Benedict! It is so outstanding, and perfect in every way.
ReplyDeleteI really like the idea of Thinking Out Loud Thursday. That is what I was just writing about today, and THEN I stumbled onto your blog. I'm so glad I did. I am having fun meeting active bloggers through these linky deals.
That video made me cry sloppy tears. Thanks for that too!
I can't believe its time for Mother's day already! I love to make up gifts and doing something with the person I am gifting to make easier.
ReplyDeleteoh i like that yoga sling backpack. it's been a while since we lived close to family.. and we haven't been wanting to have kids yet.. so it's not a holiday we think of too much. we'll probably just send home some cash.. bc that's usually what they need most. :)
ReplyDeleteThese are some great ideas! We really don't do much for Mother's Day, although I'm thinking of getting a spa package for my mom (and one for myself!) and spending the day together ;-)
ReplyDeleteWe've already had Mothers' day in the UK and my boys got me flowers. I love this link up, such a fantastic idea and the video is gorgeous :)
ReplyDeleteFun gift ideas. My mom loves gardening and has always wanted a Jack in the Pulpit flower. I need to try and find one and get it for her. She would love it.
ReplyDeleteNice gift ideas! My daughter gave me a wind chime once when she was little. She got it at the outlet mall while we were shopping for school clothes. I still have it but I hang it in the house now as it's getting old.
ReplyDeleteThose are really good ideas. I am getting my mom an herb garden I made, and my MIL a movie night gift basket.
ReplyDeleteI think my mum would definitely appreciate the Popcorn gift basket, these are all nice ideas for mums.
ReplyDeleteMothers day is fast approaching and I hope you get another great gift. The wind chime really brings the music of the wind in your home.
ReplyDeleteI am still deciding what to get my mom. Thanks for the great ideas! :)
ReplyDeleteHard year for me as my mom has just passed. Every commercial brings it smashing back that she won't be here. But I am blessed to have had her for 53 years. Now maybe I can find somethng for myself in your suggestions.
ReplyDeleteSome of these are amazing gifts for Mother's Day for sure. I will have to check these all out indeed. Thanks so much for sharing.
ReplyDeleteSuch great ideas for Mother's Day and based on all the posts I have been seeing recently, I reckon Mother's Day is not too far away!
ReplyDeleteThere are definitely some ideas in there for mother's day. My mum has passed on now, this will be my first one without her. But I used to always put a lot of effort into thinking of what to buy her. I enjoyed it a lot.
ReplyDeleteGood ideas! I always struggle with what to get my mom because she's so picky!
