Today I'm thinking out loud about the new addition to our backyard. If you read my Weekending post on Monday (HERE), you got a preview of the hummingbird feeder that Ian and Kayla gave me for Mother's Day. I absolutely LOVE it!! The beautiful handblown glass look is so pretty. This is a gift I know I'll treasure for years to come.
Do you have a hummingbird feeder? What's working for you to attract the little guys?
After a little research, here's what I found out about positioning the feeder to attract the most hummers:
- They should be hung out of direct sunlight. (Epic fail on my part - mine is hanging in a spot that offer no shade at all.)
- Hang them away from windy areas. (I did okay on this one.)
- Place the feeder in and around trumpeting flowers. (Again, okay in that department - but not great.)
Looks like I need to figure out where I need to relocate my feeder before I can expect to see any hummingbirds visiting my diner.

I love, love, love your feeder - we have a friend who posts videos often on Facebook that says his trick is to add new solution often rather than fill it up each time as it loses it's potency in the outside air. He has a crazy amount of hummingbirds in his yard! Good luck!
ReplyDeleteI love hummingbirds but haven't put feeders out lately. Your post makes me want to! They do seem to like shade. When I had feeders out, I always saw more hummingbirds in the early morning.
ReplyDeleteOh how fun! I hope once we move into our house I can get all sorts of bird feeders and bird baths! :)
ReplyDeleteI grew up with hummingbird feeders and I wish I had one at the condo but since we get in trouble for having just something simple on our patio, I'm sure I'd get in trouble for having one of those too! One day - yours is gorgeous though!
ReplyDeleteMy grandma would have a hummingbird feeder by her window and I remember watching them with her! Such great memories!
