Thinking Out Loud Thursday - April 6, 2017

It's Thursday already and that means only one thing - It's Thinking Out Loud Thursday!

Today I'm thinking about April being Stress Awareness Month.  Raise your hand if stress is a daily part of your life (both my hands are in the air).  From the moment our eyes open in the morning, stress can be skirting around us.  We need to get to work, feed the kids, pay the bills, clean the house.  The list goes on and on.  Sometimes when I truly stop and think about my stressors, I actually feel lucky.  I'm not stressing about a serious illness with me or my family, not worrying about how I'm going to make my house payment each month, or keeping my kid out of trouble.  No, what causes me stress are things like clutter around my house, sitting in traffic or meeting deadlines.

Have you ever done a little stress inventory?  A very popular inventory list is the Holmes-Rahe Life Stress Inventory.  Take a peek at it below ~

Regardless of what causes you stress, finding a relief for said stress is the goal.  It's so important for us to find our happy place and visit it often to reduce the tension in our lives.  I have a couple things that almost always relaxes those tight muscles in my shoulders.  These aren't big things (which sometimes is what we need), but instead just little tweaks that make my day a bit better.

Starting my day with a de-stress tablet in the shower has never let me down!  If I wake up and my mind immediately goes to the all the things I need to get accomplished, standing in a hot shower with the aroma of these tablets helps melt away the stress.  A pack of six tablets is just $7.50 (free shipping with Amazon Prime).  Click HERE to check them out.

I personally don't have one of these, but I've been hearing some great reviews from people that use them.  What am I talking about?  The Fidget Spinner!  This quiet little gadget is a blessing for anyone with a nervous disorder.  Some of the things it's tagged for is anxiety, ADHD, Autism, and ADD.  It's also used for quitting smoking and staying awake on long car drives.  Why haven't I purchased one of these?!?

My Fitbit (Charge 2 Heart Rate) has a handy "Relax" option that guides you through a few minutes of relaxation breathing.  Taking literally two minutes to do some deep breathing can definitely reset your stress level.  So simple, yet so effective.

What tends to stress you out in life?  What are some ways you reduce stress in your life?

So that's what I'm thinking out loud about today.  What's on your mind?  Link up and share with us!

  1. Oh, I've never seen those tablets before!! I love it. I'm all about aromatherapy and scents to provide healing benefits. I've got my diffuser going at work and at home non-stop!

We should be friends on Fitbit!

  3. I love this post. Stress is so bad in the world we live in today. A "silent" killer. Lately I have been taking hot baths and reading to reduce stress. I also do yoga, however I'm training to be a yoga teacher so right now yoga can stress me out. Thanks for thr great information!

  5. wow I had no idea that April was stress awareness month. stress... the silent killer. that's my problem, I don't know i'm stressed until my body tells me! my sleep sucks, my nutrition and energy sucks... everything sucks! so i started diffusing essential oils into the house to destress and calm down. i don't know that i'm stressed, but doing this every day makes my house smell awesome! (also unintentionally distresses me). Im going to make my husband massage my shoulders because that's where i hold all my tension LOL

  6. My husband and I were just talking about these same things last night of how we are blessed just to have to worry about day to day stress and how we wouldn't trade places with anyone else. Great read. Thanks for sharing.

  7. Having a messy house stresses me out. I feel like the walls are closing in on me when it's messy. With my move coming up my house is always messy and it isn't helping my stress levels. I am obsessed with my fitbit. I was going to blog about it in fact. lol

  8. I had not heard about this theme for April! It's a good reminder for me, as our April is scheduled to be a very busy month, but just because we're busy, I don't need to allow my schedule to stress me out.

  9. I had no idea that this month was Stress Awareness month. I definitely deal with stress. I haven't ever heard of that Fidget Spinner and I think I need one, I have a hard time sitting still and I tend to pick at my fingers or bite my nails - I think that would be useful!
