Five on Friday - September 8, 2017

We've made it to Friday!  Sometimes these short weeks are the hardest to get through.  Hope yours hasn't been too bad.  As of me, I'm pumped about having a weekend after only four work days!

Want to see my five things I've found to share with you today?  Here you go ~

1.  Lego Advent Calendar
Let me just say I'm sorry in advance.  I'm usually not one to push Christmas before Thanksgiving, but these Lego Advent Calendars sell out so fast I thought I'd mention them now because they are in stock.  Typically, if you wait until after Thanksgiving to get yours, they are all sold out.  So if they look like something you would like to have this holiday season, get your now!  There's a couple to pick them.

2.  Hillbilly Elergy
My friend Linda recommended Hillbilly Elegy to me and I immediately bought it.  She very rarely recommends a book I don't love and this one is no exception.  I started it last weekend and finished it in record time.  If you're looking for your next read, check it out HERE.  Goodreads has to say about:
From a former Marine and Yale Law School Graduate, a poignant account of growing up in a poor Appalachian town, that offers a broader, probing look at the struggles of America’s white working class. Part memoir, part historical and social analysis, J. D. Vance’s Hillbilly Elegy is a fascinating consideration of class, culture, and the American dream.

Vance’s grandparents were “dirt poor and in love.” They got married and moved north from Kentucky to Ohio in the hopes of escaping the dreadful poverty around them. Their grandchild (the author) graduated from Yale Law School, a conventional marker of their success in achieving upward mobility for their family. But Vance cautions that is only the short version. The slightly longer version is that his grandparents, aunt, uncle, and mother struggled to varying degrees with the demands of their new middle class life and they, and Vance himself, still carry around the demons of their chaotic family history.

Delving into his own personal story and drawing on a wide array of sociological studies, Vance takes us deep into working class life in the Appalachian region. This demographic of our country has been slowly disintegrating over forty years, and Vance provides a searching and clear-eyed attempt to understand when and how “hillbillies” lost faith in any hope of upward mobility, and in opportunities to come.

At times funny, disturbing, and deeply moving, this is a family history that is also a troubling meditation on the loss of the American dream for a large portion of this country.

3.  The Beebo - Hand Free Bottle Holder
Did you see this on Shark Tank?  It definitely deserves a look!  We've all fed a baby before and wish we had an extra hand.  This is the answer!  Wouldn't this make a wonderful baby shower gift!?!  Check out the video below to see it in action.  You can buy it HERE.

4.  Club Bites Mini Sandwich Crackers
Snacking is one of my favorites hobbies and these little babies look delicious!  I love Club crackers.  Add peanut butter or cheese and they sound even better!  You will find these in my lunch bag next week for sure.  Have you tried them?

5.  So true...

Fastest way to mess up someone's knock knock joke? "It's open"

Have a great weekend!  Eric and I are headed to the Clayton Art Fair tonight and tomorrow we're going to do a little hiking.  Pop in on Monday to hear all about it.

Let's all say a prayer for our friends in Florida and continue to keep Houston in our thoughts also.  I can't even imagine what those guys are going through.

  9. Hey Penny :)
That baby bottle holder is GENIUS! Funny you share some Lego Advent calendars. I've seen Lego everything lately and some of the pieces are really quite adorable/need. An Advent calendar though, any kid would love that I think.

Have a great week Penny! :)
