Let's Make Kettlecorn

Every now and then, Eric and I will be settling in to watch a movie or enjoy a game on television and crave something a little bit sweet and a little bit salty.  In moments like this, I whip up a batch of kettlecorn!

This recipe literally only takes a couple minutes to complete and I typically have all the ingredients on hand.  You can pull this off during a commercial break!

Here's What You Need
1/2 cup Popcorn Kernels
3 tablespoons Cooking Oil
1/4 cup Sugar
Salt

Here's What You Do
Put your Whirley Pop Popcorn Maker on the stove and turn on the heat.  I usually start on high and then reduce the heat to medium after the kernels begin popping.

Pour in the oil, kernels, and sugar.  Shut the lid and wait for the popping to begin.  As soon as you hear the first kernel burst, give the handle a turn and keep slowly turning while the rest of the kernels spring open.  (This is also when you turn the heat from high to medium.)

When the popping stops, remove from heat and pour into a bowl.  Sprinkle with salt.  Enjoy!

  3. I didn't even know you could get special pans for popcorn making. We pop our own corn sometimes but just use a big pan and give it a good shake every few minutes. This handle idea seems SO much better!
The only other difference we have is that we add a sprinkle of icing sugar to ours instead of salt. Sweet popcorn is SO much more common here in the UK than salty! Weird I know!

  4. Have never seen a popcorn popper like that. My mom used a big pot when we were children to pop corn to take to the drive-in movies. I was gifted an air popper but haven't used it much. Should probably get it back out. We LOVE popcorn and kettle corn is one of my favs. Thanks for sharing.
