Weekending - February 12, 2021

Oh my - this weekend was a cold one!  We are here in the midwest bracing for snow and more COLD temperatures today.  The snow is sitting on the driveway, but I can't motivate myself to go out in the 1-degree temperature to shovel it off.   Instead, I'll just stay inside and reflect on the weekend!

Eric brought home the most beautiful flowers on Friday!  I always love it when he does that and I'm grateful that he does it quite frequently.  There's something about having fresh flowers around that makes me smile.

Friday night we tried to watch the movie Herself but were disinterested after about 25 minutes so we switched to While You Were Sleeping.  I've seen that movie so many times, but I still love it!

Saturday morning Eric headed to work and I did what I love to do - relax in bed sipping a pot of tea, reading a magazine with my favorite candle crackling in the background.  I truly miss the Saturday mornings when my son was little.  We were usually frantically trying to get breakfast and racing off to the sport-of-the-season practice or game.  But I've learned to love this season of life too.

The magazine of choice Saturday was Eating Well.  A subscription is only five bucks and it's worth every penny!  If you don't like the actual magazine laying around, the Kindle version is only five bucks too.  Here's an interesting tidbit I learned from this issue:  taking a bath most days of the week can lower your risk of developing cardiovascular disease by 28% and reduce the odds of stroke by 26% (see page 13 of the magazine for the full story).  There's a recipe for creamy chicken marsala with prosciutto I'm dying to try.  Also,  I'm ordering a new jump rope they recommended.  I'll let you know how that goes.

Saturday evening we Zoomed with our son and daughter-in-law.  Somewhere I caught a cold last week so we were staying in not to expose anyone.  We played Skribbl.io and it was so fun!  I'm so thankful our friend TW introduced us to that online game.  Have you played any fun online games?  Would love to hear any recommendations.

Eric had only been home for a few hours when he got called back into work because of an emergency, so I watched The Rewrite with Hugh Grant and Marisa Tomei.  I don't know what I was doing in 2014 when it came out, but I hadn't seen it before.  It was okay.

Valentine's Day on Sunday was extremely low key.  We did church online and sat at the kitchen table watching the birds balancing on the feeder.  Those little guys are going through an entire feeder of food every day now.

We also worked on our puzzle and are so close to finishing!  I need to get a new one ordered so we'll be ready to start it when we wrap this one up.

We had ordered our Valentine dinner from a local restaurant and it was fabulous!  Best decision to just order out and pick it up!  I did make a frozen jello salad for us to have with it, which I'll be sharing with you tomorrow.  It was so good!

We wrapped up the evening with a little wine and called it a weekend.

This week is going to be a bit of a challenge with the weather.  I know we aren't alone on that front.  It's snowing here now and the temperatures are bitter cold.  Stay safe out there!  See you back tomorrow when I share that wonderful jello salad recipe!
