Happy Monday! We kicked off the first weekend in October by celebrating a special 2-year old on Saturday! But let's rewind all the way back to Friday ~
Friday night we were so excited to watch The Many Saints of Newark movie. We picked up take-out, got out the cozy blankets, and settled in. Unfortunately, we didn't really love the movie. As a matter of fact, we stopped about two-thirds of the way through to watch Ted Lasso and haven't gone back to finish it.
Saturday morning we were up and out the door early. I had several stops I wanted to make before arriving at a birthday party in the afternoon. One of our stops was Trader Joe's. My favorite Pumpkin Rolls are back and I especially wanted to stock up before they disappeared for another year! Mission accomplished!
We also ran through Ikea to get a magnetic board for my closet. Have you ever tried to hurry through Ikea? That's a pretty hard task for us, but we managed to stay focused and get what we went in for.
Our friend's 2-year old birthday party took place in a pavilion at a beautiful park. The pavilion was nestled between a lake with a waterfall and a playground. The perfect setting for a kid's party! Just as the party was started, the rain poured down. But that didn't stop the birthday boy from having the time of his life! It was so fun watching him run through as many puddles as he could!
The cake and decorations were adorable! Soon the rain stopped and the kids got to enjoy the playground. It was a perfect way to spend the afternoon.
When we got home, I immediately snuggled up on the couch to read more of the book I had started on Friday night. Have you read Malibu Rising? OMG - I loved it! Here's the summary from Goodreads ~
Four famous siblings throw an epic party to celebrate the end of the summer. But over the course of twenty-four hours, their lives will change forever.
Malibu: August, 1983. It’s the day of Nina Riva’s annual end-of-summer party, and anticipation is at a fever pitch. Everyone wants to be around the famous Rivas: Nina, the talented surfer and supermodel; brothers Jay and Hud, one a championship surfer, the other a renowned photographer; and their adored baby sister, Kit. Together, the siblings are a source of fascination in Malibu and the world over—especially as the offspring of the legendary singer, Mick Riva.
The only person not looking forward to the party of the year is Nina herself, who never wanted to be the center of attention, and who has also just been very publicly abandoned by her pro tennis player husband. Oh, and maybe Hud—because it is long past time to confess something to the brother from whom he’s been inseparable since birth.
Jay, on the other hand, is counting the minutes until nightfall, when the girl he can’t stop thinking about promised she’ll be there.
And Kit has a couple secrets of her own—including a guest she invited without consulting anyone.
By midnight the party will be completely out of control. By morning, the Riva mansion will have gone up in flames. But before that first spark in the early hours before dawn, the alcohol will flow, the music will play, and the loves and secrets that shaped this family’s generations will all come bubbling to the surface.
Malibu Rising is a story about one unforgettable night in the life of a family: the night they each have to choose what they will keep from the people who made them... and what they will leave behind.
I scrapped everything I had planned to do the rest of the day and just read. Eric fixed me a bowl of popcorn and I was in my happy place!
Sunday we joined our son and daughter-in-law to watch the Chiefs game. Thank goodness they pulled off a win this week!
The rest of the day was spent finishing Malibu Rising. The good news is I did finish so tonight I can actually catch up on some other things I should have been doing over the weekend. But if I had to do it all over again, I'd still spend the weekend doing exactly what I did!
