Five on Friday - March 10, 2023

Happy Friday friends!  It has been a whirlwind of a week over here trying to get cleaned up from the wedding we helped with last weekend.  We also celebrated our son's 32nd birthday!  It's weird when your baby turns 32 and you don't feel older than 32 yourself.  Mommas - hang on to your little ones because, in a blink of an eye, they are all grown up!

I know you popped in to see what five things I was sharing today, so let's get to it ~

1.  Daylight Savings Time
Just a reminder to turn those clocks forward this weekend.  It's a bummer that we'll lose an hour, but I'm so excited about it staying light longer!  Will this be the last time we change our clocks?  Could be.  Last March the Senate passed legislation that would make daylight saving time permanent starting this year.  The House of Representatives still must pass the bill and then it would go to President Biden to sign.  If you hear chatter about the Sunshine Protection Act, that's this bill.

2.  Champions
I'm ready for a good comedy movie and Woody Harrelson might deliver.  His new movie, Champions, opens today.  The previews had me laughing out loud.  Here's the synopsis from Movie Insiders:
Woody Harrelson stars in the hilarious and heartwarming story of a former minor-league basketball coach who, after a series of missteps, is ordered by the court to manage a team of players with intellectual disabilities. He soon realizes that despite his doubts, together, this team can go further than they ever imagined.

Danielle Steel's newest book was released this week.  I used to never miss reading her books the minute they came out, but it's been a while since I've read anything by her.  It's probably time for me to crack one of her books open!  Here's the summary of this one ~
Spencer Brooke always knew she was destined to be CEO of her grandfather’s business—the most respected and luxurious department store in New York City. Brooke’s has been at the center of every happy memory she has, but it hasn’t been an easy journey. Seven years after her father’s death, her life is very different from the days when she walked through the store with her grandfather as a young girl. She may be the owner of Brooke’s, but she’s also now a divorced single mother of twin boys. And with the ever-evolving landscape of the fashion industry comes new challenges for Spencer and the legacy she’s inherited.

Mike Weston is known for making enormous profits by transforming small businesses into bigger, more successful ones. With his marriage at a breaking point and his children grown up, investing is where he thrives—where he can build something greater. And Brooke’s feels like the perfect opportunity. Yet the firm’s beautiful and savvy CEO turns down the offer before they even meet.

Spencer has no interest in outside investors meddling in her family business; her grandfather never saw the need for them, and neither does she. She refuses to be tempted by Mike’s offer, despite her big dreams of expanding the store. But when bad luck strikes, suddenly she is backed into a corner.

In Worthy Opponents, Danielle Steel crafts a thrilling story about a powerful woman—and her equally formidable opponent.

4.  95th Academy Awards
Sunday night is the 95th Academy Awards show.  Usually, I'm all over the movies nominated for best picture and try to see them all.  This year, not so much.  As a matter of fact, we've only seen 5 of the 10 movies up for the top award.  Of the five we've seen, I thought two were completely horrible.  The front-runner, Everything Everywhere All At Once, is one I really didn't care for.  Maybe we'll get back into it next year.  Last year we hosted an Oscar party (HERE) and watched the infamous slap heard around the world with a room full of people.  This year I'll be sitting in my pj's on the couch with Eric tuned into ABC to watch all the action.

5.  My answer would be the same...

Have a great weekend!  I'm not sure what we have going on, but I hope it involves a lot of relaxing.  See you next week!

  1. I am excited to turn the clocks this weekend... even if I am sad to be losing an hour of sleep. I haven't been sleeping the greatest this week and could actually use MORE sleep but I'll take more sunlight! :)
