Weekending - May 3, 2019

As I sit here on Sunday evening and reflect back over the weekend, a smile spreads across my face.  It has truly been a great couple of days with a little bit of everything I love.  Here's how the last 50 or so hours went ~

Friday night there were a few stops I wanted to make before reaching home.  With all the efficiency I could muster, I managed to stop at seven stores in a span of two hours and was walking in the door at home right around 7:00 pm.  Eric was working late, so I was on my own for dinner.  As I typically do when Eric isn't here for dinner, my food of choice was a bowl of cereal.  I had an hour before the St. Louis Blues hockey game started so I thought I'd watch an episode of the new show on Netflix, Dead To Me.  Well, turns out I never left Netflix and binge watched the entire season!  Siri kept me informed of the Blues score and I just couldn't turn away from this show.  Have you seen it?  Christina Applegate and Linda Cardellini form a friendship as widows who meet at a grief support group and the story unfolds from there.  Already looking forward to season 2.

Saturday we had a fun staycation day planned with our friends, Debbie and Larry.  Our first stop was La Patisserie Chouquette for Pie Palooza.  Chris Taylor and Paul Arguin, creators of The New Pie cookbook, were in town to do a signing.  You could also buy some of their featured pies at Chouquette on Saturday, which we took full advantage of!

If you are into baking pies at all, you should add this cookbook to your repertoire.  There are a tons of tricks of the trade to take your pies to the next level.  For example - see the fancy topping on chocolate Pittsburgh Proud pie below.  It's chocolate covered potato sticks.  Ingenious!

The names of the pies are adorable too.  One of them is named after the street the Golden Girls lived on - 1651 Richmond.  How cute!  If you would like to grab the book, click HERE.

Next we headed to Pizzeoli to try their version of Neapolitan pizza.  What is Neapolitan pizza you ask?  It's pizza cooked in a 800-900 degree wood fired oven for 60-90 seconds.  The crust is very soft and chewy.

We shared a bottle of wine while enjoying a tasty lunch.

Our next stop was the Magic Chef Mansion for a tour.  This 12,000 square foot home was built around 1908 and still has several of the Magic Chef appliances working inside.  The home is open several times a year for tours.

The basement is even complete with a bowling alley, game room and wine cellar.

Sunday we invited Eric's mom down to watch the Blues hockey game with us.  She brought us luck and, thankfully, we ended up winning the game!  Now if we can just win on Tuesday and advance to the next round.

In between all the fun, I managed to finish reading Lost Roses.  I'll be sharing a book review on this one in the near future.

  4. What a fun weekend! I just started watching Dead to Me last night and while I really enjoyed it I only made it part way through episode one before falling asleep... hiking and moving furniture had made me too tired. But I will watch the rest tonight for sure.
