Five on Friday - April 10, 2020

Happy Good Friday!  In a normal time, this would be a holiday for me.  I'm going to do my best to keep a holiday feel to today and the entire weekend.  We will be celebrating Easter in a different way, but we are going to do our very best to still make it a good one.

Speaking of good things, here's my five for today ~

1.  Andrea Bocelli - Music for Hope
As so many of us will be practicing social distancing and watching our worship services online, Andrea Bocelli is helping make the day a little better.  He and his organist, Emanuele Vianelli, will be the only two in Italy's Duomo Cathedral for a performance that will be live-streamed on YouTube.  The preview below literally brought tears to my eyes.  I'll have my tissues ready on Sunday!  "On the day in which we celebrate the trust in a life that triumphs, I’m honored and happy to answer 'Sì' to the invitation of the City and the Duomo of Milan," Bocelli said in a statement.

Are you reading a lot more these days?  Melanie Shankle's book hit the stands recently and arrived in my mailbox this week.  I was prompted to order the book after I heard Melanie on Modern Mrs. Darcy's Stay at Home Book Tour.  If you missed it, you can catch the interview HERE.  It's a great read, especially in light of the world today.  Here's the summary from Amazon ~

Big Mama blog founder and New York Times bestselling author Melanie Shankle helps us sort through our questions about being true to ourselves in a world gone crazy and what matters the most in the end.
These days, so many voices tell us what to do, what to think, and what kind of parent or friend or spouse to be that it's easy to feel overwhelmed and defeated. Somewhere in the midst of online arguments and crazy politics and the ups and downs of life, we've lost sight of the gifts that are all around us: kindness, love, mercy, and joy.
In On the Bright Side, Melanie Shankle reminds us of the unchanging principles we can count on in a changing world. These are lessons that Melanie has learned along the way about how to find all the joy that life has to offer - and why encouragement is never something to keep to ourselves. Exploring topics such as dealing with comparisons, when life doesn't turn out like we expected, and how to find your people, Melanie invites us to lead with love in all areas of our lives.
This delightful memoir highlights the joys of life told in Melanie's down to earth, relatable, and totally enjoyable style. On the Bright Side is a how-to guide to knowing - and living - what matters most.

3.  Magnolia Table, Volume 2
Speaking of good reads, Joanna Gaines put out her Volume 2 this past week and it is definitely on my wish list for Mother's Day.  I might have to break down and gift it to myself before Mother's Day.  I'm baking more than normal right now and with recipes like Pumpkin Cream Cheese Bread and Magnolia Press Chocolate Cake inside this book, why wait to purchase it?  No time like the present to start testing her recipes!  It's available on Amazon HERE and Target HERE.

Right now I'm all about things that make me happy and bring joy.  This candle does just that!  The wick stretches across the width of the candle and when lit makes this calming little crackle sound.  The blended scents of vanilla bean, caramel, and biscotti wrap around you like a cozy blanket.  I absolutely love lighting this candle while I'm reading.  Want one?  Click HERE to get one of your very own.

5.  Definitely me.....

Enjoy Easter and I hope to see you back here next week.  I'm going to make the coconut cream pie I blogged about HERE and I can't wait to have a piece!  We will be doing a happy hour tonight with some friends and I'm hoping to connect with my parents over the weekend too.  Thank heavens for Zoom!  See you soon!

  1. I was actually surprised to see that I needed gas when I took it out the other day as I really can't remember the last time I went to the gas station!
