Five on Friday - July 24, 2020

It's Friday!  Who else is ready for the weekend?  I'm pretty excited to have a few days off.  I'm also excited to share my five for today, so here goes ~

1.  Happy Anywhere
Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani have done it again!  Their new single is releasing today - Happy Anywhere.  I'm betting it's going to be another hit.  You might have seen them perform it together on the Today show this morning.  This single comes out the day before Blake's Encore drive-in concert.  He'll be performing with special guests Gwen and Trace Adkins.  Check this list of drive-ins to see if the concert is available near you.

2.  Harrry Potter Meets Vera Bradley
There's something new and exciting for all you Harry Potter fans.  Vera Bradley has just introduced their new line of Harry Potter items and you are going to love them!  They are perfect for back to school.  Bring the Muggle Magic to your kiddos!  Even if school isn't starting in person, eventually it will and your student will look dashing carrying her new Harry Potter backpack and toting her lunch in a Harry Potter bag.  Check out all the new items HERE.

3.  Fruit Loop Pops
Looking for a treat to keep you cool on these hot summer days?  Froot Loops Ice Pops are starting to make an appearance and I'm on the lookout for them!  The eight pack includes green, red, purple, and yellow treats, just like the cereal.  Word on the street is they smell exactly like a bowl of fresh Froot Loops.  Have you seen them at your grocery store?

4. The New Corner Office
For the last few months, I've been listening to Laura Vanderkam's podcast called The New Corner Office. This week her new book with the same title hit the stands. With more and more people working from home, now is the perfect time to read this book!  Here's how Amazon summaries it ~
How do you do great work while sitting near the same spot where you watch Netflix? How can you be responsive without losing the focus necessary for getting things done? How can you maintain and grow your network when you spend less time face to face?
The key is to detach yourself from old ways of working and adopt new habits to match your new environment. Long before public health concerns pushed many of us indoors, some of the most successful people fueled their careers with carefully perfected work-from-home routines. Drawing on those profiles and her own insights, productivity expert and mother of five Laura Vanderkam reveals how to turn "being cooped up" into the ultimate career advantage. Her hacks include:

• Manage by task, not time. Going to an office for 8 hours makes you feel like you've done something, even if you haven't. Remote workers should set 3-5 ambitious goals for each day and consider the work day done when these are crossed off.
• Get the rhythm right. A well-planned day features time for focused work, interactive work, and rejuvenating breaks. In place of a commute, a consciously chosen shut down ritual keeps work from continuing all night.
• Nurture connections. Wise remote workers can build broader and more effective networks than people sitting in the same cubicle five days a week.
Whether you're an introvert or an extrovert, a self-starter or someone who prefers detailed directions, you can do your clearest thinking and deepest work at home--and have more energy left over to achieve personal goals or fuel bigger professional ambitions. In fact, soon you might find it hard to imagine working any other way.
Sounds interesting, doesn't it.  Get your copy HERE.

5.  I heard Eric saying this....

Have a great weekend!  It's going to be a hot one here in our area.  We'll be hanging out once again in our blow-up pool.  That thing has been a total lifesaver this summer!  I whipped up a batch of bourbon slushes that will be a great treat.  I'll be sharing the recipe on the blog next week.  See you soon!

  1. OK--no joke my husband was washing the car last weekend and the Amazon truck was coming down the road. He said "your order's here" and I told him I hadn't ordered anything from Amazon in almost a month and he replied "What? They're going to think I killed you or something! Maybe they're coming to check up on you."

I am huge Vera Bradley and Harry Potter fan and I just may have to get something for myself out of her new line!
