Five on Friday - May 14, 2021

Let's get ready for a weekend!  Friday got here fast this week so let's get on with my five ~

1.  National Barbecue Day
Get ready to fire up the grill because Sunday is National Barbecue Day!  It's predicted that we will be getting rain on Sunday, but we have an awesome indoor grill we can use if the rain is too much to grill outside.  Here in St. Louis, a very popular item to grill is pork steaks.  If you've never had one cooked on the grill, you don't know what you're missing!

2.  DQ Summer Blizzard Flavors
If longer days and warm weather aren't enough to make you look forward to summer, Dairy Queen has given us six more reasons.  They announced their summer Blizzard flavors and I don't know which one I want to try first!  Here are the flavors:  Frosted Animal Cookie, Girl Scout Thin Mints, Raspberry Fudge Bliss, Brownie Batter, Cotton Candy, and Drumstick with Peanuts.  Which one will you try first?

3.  Here Today
Billy Crystal and Tiffany Haddish have a new movie out and it's definitely on my list of ones I want to see.  The summary says, "A veteran comedy writer, Charlie Burnz, is going through a tough time and meets a street singer, Emma Payge. They form an unlikely friendship and discover the meaning of love and trust."  So glad to see more and more original films showing up in theaters!

4.  Yearbook by Seth Rogen
Are you a Seth Rogen fan?  His new book, Yearbook, was released this week and it actually sounds pretty good.  I'm also thinking it might make a good Father's Day present.  Here's the summary from Amazon ~
A collection of funny personal essays from one of the writers of Superbad and Pineapple Express and one of the producers of The Disaster Artist, Neighbors, and The Boys. (All of these words have been added to help this book show up in people’s searches using the wonders of algorithmic technology. Thanks for bearing with us!)

Hi! I’m Seth! I was asked to describe my book, Yearbook, for the inside flap (which is a gross phrase) and for websites and shit like that, so… here it goes!!!

Yearbook is a collection of true stories that I desperately hope are just funny at worst, and life-changingly amazing at best. (I understand that it’s likely the former, which is a fancy “book” way of saying “the first one.”)

I talk about my grandparents, doing stand-up comedy as a teenager, bar mitzvahs, and Jewish summer camp, and tell way more stories about doing drugs than my mother would like. I also talk about some of my adventures in Los Angeles, and surely say things about other famous people that will create a wildly awkward conversation for me at a party one day.

I hope you enjoy the book should you buy it, and if you don’t enjoy it, I’m sorry. If you ever see me on the street and explain the situation, I’ll do my best to make it up to you.

5.  Think about this...

Hope you have a great weekend!  We have plants for the garden we're hoping gets in the ground and I still haven't bought flowers for our pots.  If I don't get them pretty soon, there won't be any left.  See you back here next week!

  2. I am going to make it a summer bucket list goal to try at least half of the new DQ Blizzard flavors. Love me some DQ.
We barbequed on Sunday - accidentally. Yay us!! Made ribs first in the Instapot and then grilled them a few minutes. Mmmm.
I am ready for some new movies, too. We are thinking Cruella might be good. I like Billy Crystal (When Harry Met Sally <3) but I hope they don't have him falling in love with some girl half his age. Hate when movies and TV shows do that. It never goes the other way!!
