Today I'm thinking about something Eric and I have been spending A LOT of time doing the last few days - watching the Olympics. Oh my goodness. We have been staying up waaaayyy too late watching the action. I'm looking forward to this weekend just so I can try to catch up on sleep a bit. Are you watching?
Have you noticed that the winners are not immediately being given their medals? I, personally, am having a bit of trouble with this. I'm missing the pictures of the Olympians holding up their shiny gems. And what about the flowers? A stuffed white tiger, a symbol of the Olympics mascot Soohorang, has replaced them. Don't worry - the winners do receive their actual medal at a second ceremony held each night in the Medals Plaza located in Pyeongchang.
Wonder what the medals even look like? The suspense was killing me so I had to look it up.
How cool are those babies!?! A total of 259 metals will be awarded this year in South Korea. Each gold medal has an approximate value of $577. The US Olympic Committee adds a bonus for earning a medal - if you win a gold medal you also get a payday of $37,500, silver gets $22,500 and bronze takes home $15,000. Cha-ching!
Well, I have more speed skating and downhill skiing to watch, so I better sign off here.
U-S-A! U-S-A!
