Happy Good Friday! I'm so excited to be off work today. There's a small amount of work I'm going to catch up on then I'm turning on the out-of-office notice and enjoying the Easter holiday. And I'm kicking off the weekend with my five for today ~
Mary Laura Philpott's newest book hit the stands this week and I can't wait to dive into it. I hear her speak about the book on a podcast and immediately added it to my TBR list. Here's the summary from Amazon ~
From the bestselling author of I Miss You When I Blink comes a poignant and powerful new memoir that tackles the big questions of life, death, and existential fear with humor and hope.
A lifelong worrier, Philpott always kept an eye out for danger, a habit that only intensified when she became a parent. But she looked on the bright side, too, believing that as long as she cared enough, she could keep her loved ones safe.
Then, in the dark of one quiet, pre-dawn morning, she woke abruptly to a terrible sound—and found her teenage son unconscious on the floor. In the aftermath of a crisis that darkened her signature sunny spirit, she wondered: If this happened, what else could happen? And how do any of us keep going when we can’t know for sure what’s coming next?
Leave it to the writer whose critically acclaimed debut had us “laughing and crying on the same page” (NPR) to illuminate what it means to move through life with a soul made of equal parts anxiety and optimism (and while she’s at it, to ponder the mysteries of backyard turtles and the challenges of spatchcocking a turkey).
Hailed by TheWashington Post as “Nora Ephron, Erma Bombeck, Jean Kerr, and Laurie Colwin all rolled into one,” Philpott returns in her distinctive voice to explore our protective instincts, the ways we continue to grow up long after we’re grown, and the limits—both tragic and hilarious—of the human body and mind.
2. Dolly Parton's Cake Mix Line
Duncan Hines and Dolly Parton are teaming up to give us a new line of cake mixes and icings. I love Dolly and am going to be on the lookout for her Southern-style favorites like coconut cake mix, banana cake mix, and the chocolate and vanilla flavored buttercream to go along with them. Just look at the packaging - does it get any cuter than that!
3. Father Stu
If you're looking for a movie to see this weekend, Father Stu just opened. Here's the summary from Fandango ~
Based on a true story, Father Stu is an unflinchingly honest, funny and ultimately uplifting drama about a lost soul who finds his purpose in a most unexpected place. When an injury ends his amateur boxing career, Stuart Long (Mark Wahlberg) moves to L.A. dreaming of stardom. While scraping by as a supermarket clerk, he meets Carmen (Teresa Ruiz), a Catholic Sunday school teacher who seems immune to his bad-boy charm. Determined to win her over, the longtime agnostic starts going to church to impress her. But surviving a terrible motorcycle accident leaves him wondering if he can use his second chance to help others find their way, leading to the surprising realization that he is meant to be a Catholic priest. Despite a devastating health crisis and the skepticism of Church officials and his estranged parents (Mel Gibson and Jacki Weaver), Stu pursues his vocation with courage and compassion, inspiring not only those closest to him but countless others along the way.
We love our air fryer and use it practically daily. But clean-up is definitely not something we love. I purchased these air fryer liners this week and am dying to try them out. The disposable paper liner keeps food residue away from the fryer and makes clean up a breeze. The liners, which are made from parchment paper, will also work in the microwave, steamer, or oven. Winner, winner, chicken dinner!
5. Easter egg hunting...
Enjoy the Easter holiday! We're going to our son and daughter-in-law's house to enjoy the day. The weather isn't supposed to be the best, but I'm sure we'll make the most of it. Their nephew will be around to hunt eggs, so it might have to be a last-minute call if the eggs are outside or inside. Where ever they are, it will be fun watching him search for them. See you next week!
Dolly doesn't look too sure of the cake she's mixing up in that photo! LOL. I bet those are going to be some yummy cakes though. The movie sounds like a good one.
ReplyDeleteUpdate please on the liners. I probably need to invest in those myself
