Five on Friday - November 6, 2015

Welcome to the weekend!!  We have had such a fun last couple of days it feels like we've been weekending for a while.  Eric's birthday was Wednesday.  If you missed my post about him, you can catch it HERE.  We went to see The Bridge of Spies.  Both truly enjoyed it.  Thursday was my mother-in-law's birthday, so we took her out to dinner.  And we have more birthday celebrating to do this weekend.  What a great week!

Before we venture into the weekend, let me share my five for this week~

1.  Hostess Peppermint Ho Hos
Put away the pumpkin - peppermint season is here!  For the first time ever, Hostess is introducing a new variety of Ho Hos -- Peppermint!  What a way to welcome in the holiday season!  Yes, I'll be scoping the stores for these.  Anyone already tried them?Ho Hos, Peppermint Ho Hos, Hostess
2.  Spectre
It's here, it's here!  The new James Bond movie opens today and it sounds like another great one.  This is actually the 24th Bond movie and the 4th time Daniel Craig has played the part.  Sure hope it does well because rumor has it that this movie cost in excess of $300 million to produce.  Crazy!!
Here's the story line told by Movie Insider, "A cryptic message from the past sends James Bond on a rogue mission to Mexico City and eventually Rome, where he meets Lucia Sciarra (Monica Bellucci), the beautiful and forbidden widow of an infamous criminal. Bond infiltrates a secret meeting and uncovers the existence of the sinister organization known as SPECTRE.
Meanwhile back in London, Max Denbigh (Andrew Scott), the new head of the Centre for National Security, questions Bond's actions and challenges the relevance of MI6, led by M (Ralph Fiennes). Bond covertly enlists Moneypenny (Naomie Harris) and Q (Ben Whishaw) to help him seek out Madeleine Swann (Léa Seydoux), the daughter of his old nemesis Mr White (Jesper Christensen), who may hold the clue to untangling the web of SPECTRE. As the daughter of an assassin, she understands Bond in a way most others cannot."

3.  Pie Anyone?
With the holidays fast approaching, pie baking might be on your to do list.  Does making a lattice pie crust just seem too daunting?  Well, check out this post from Gimme Some Oven!  It breaks it down into a pretty simple technique.  Come on - you can do it!!  Think how impressed your guests will be when you display one of these babies on your dessert table.

4.  Oprah's Favorite Things 2015
Get ready ~ Oprah's Favorite Things List for 2015 is in her December issue of O - The Oprah Magazine and it will be hitting the news stands November 10.  Some of the items are leaking out and I'm in love with these Letters books from Chronicle Books.  Here's the description from the Letters to My Future Self book:  "At once a priceless memento and a journey forward in time, this innovative book of 12 fold-and-mail style letters offers a unique way to capture the moment. Each letter bears a prompt to inspire self-reflection. Once written, the letters can be sealed with the stickers included and postdated. The keepsake bundle of letters is like a dozen diary entries for the future. A thoughtful present for anyone embarking on a new stage in their life's journey, Letters to My Future Self offers both the gift of looking forward and the delight of remembering times past."  In addition to the Letters to My Future Self book, there are also ones for your love, baby and grandchild.

being happy

Hope you have a fabulous weekend!  I'm excited to celebrate my friend Sherri's birthday tonight with the girls.  Carol took a cooking class when she recently was in Italy and is showing us what she learned by fixing a birthday feast.  Homemade pasta - YUM!  Then tomorrow night we are officially celebrating Eric's birthday by going to dinner with Ian and Kayla.  Sunday is book club.  Lots of fun things happening so hope you check back in on Monday to read all about it.

  1. Peppermint is going to be the new pumpkin I think this season. Seeing everything peppermint. Ho Ho's use to be my addiction in college. Then Little Debbie came out and they were cheaper. Still no comparison if you ask me. Have a great weekend Penny. Enjoy your birthday celebration Eric!

  4. Fun fact: Daniel Craig is shorter than he looks and has not aged well, therefore wears a TON of makeup filming. We've seen him on set filming here in Toronto a couple of years ago and was shocked he was standing just two feet away from us.

Have a fabulous weekend Hun! Xo
