Five on Friday - June 29, 2018

Happy Friday friends!  Can you believe we are wrapping up June?!?  Where did the month go?  Here's the last Five on Friday for this month ~

1.  National Postal Worker Day
How often do you thank your mail carrier?  Well, now's your chance - Sunday is National Postal Worker Day!  Since the holiday falls on a Sunday this year, I'm electing to put a little special thank you in my mailbox on Saturday for my mail deliverer.  They are always in and out of my mailbox so fast they rarely get to see my joy when I pull out the mail and find something happy in there.  Now's my chance to let them know how much I appreciate them delivering a smile to my face.

2.  All We Ever Wanted
Emily Giffin's All We Ever Wanted  hit the stands on Tuesday and it's definitely on my want to read list.  You might recognize her other best sellers - Something Borrowed and First Comes Love.  Here's what Amazon has to say about her newest work:
Nina Browning is living the good life after marrying into Nashville’s elite. More recently, her husband made a fortune selling his tech business, and their adored son has been accepted to Princeton.
Yet sometimes the middle-class small-town girl in Nina wonders if she’s strayed from the person she once was.
Tom Volpe is a single dad working multiple jobs while struggling to raise his headstrong daughter, Lyla. His road has been lonely, long, and hard, but he finally starts to relax after Lyla earns a scholarship to Windsor Academy, Nashville’s most prestigious private school.
Amid so much wealth and privilege, Lyla doesn’t always fit in—and her overprotective father doesn’t help—but in most ways, she’s a typical teenaged girl, happy and thriving.
Then, one photograph, snapped in a drunken moment at a party, changes everything. As the image spreads like wildfire, the Windsor community is instantly polarized, buzzing with controversy and assigning blame.
At the heart of the lies and scandal, Tom, Nina, and Lyla are forced together—all questioning their closest relationships, asking themselves who they really are, and searching for the courage to live a life of true meaning.

3. Planters Cheez Balls
Remember way back in the '90s when Cheez Balls were a thing. They were a hard snack to sneak because of the orange tint they left all over your fingers (and sometimes your mouth). Starting July 1, you can relive your '90s snacking because Planters is bringing them back! They haven't been on the shelves in over a decade, but for a limited time you can pick up Cheez Balls and Cheez Curls at Walmart and Amazon for only $2 a can.  Happy snacking!

4.  Affordable Tankini
There are several things I'll overpay for if I really love it, but swimsuits just aren't one of them.  I was in the market for a new suit this year and the $100+ price tags were making me a little sad.  I turned to Amazon and found this beauty for only $27, with free Prime shipping.  The quality is great and the style does a pretty good job covering up some of those not so flattering areas.  It also comes in multiple colors.  If you're in the market for a new affordable suit, check them out HERE.

5.  My life...

Enjoy the weekend!  We are expecting a heat wave here in St. Louis, but that's not going to stop us from seeing the outside production of Singin' in the Rain at the Muny tonight.  Then tomorrow we're excited to attend a Sip and See party to meet the newest member of our friends' family.  I've been remiss in posting a weekending blog the last few weeks, but hopefully that will change and I'll be here on Monday to fill you in on our weekend.  See you then!

Five on Friday - June 22, 2018

Hello friends!  Did you enjoy the summer solstice yesterday?  One of my favorite things about summer is the long days with plenty of sun.  Here's a few of my other favorite things this week ~

1.  American Flag Bunting
Last year I bought a couple of these American Flag Buntings and they look fabulous on my front porch!  So festive and fun for the July Fourth holiday.  Do you need some for your house?  Click HERE to check them out.

2.  Jurassic World:  Fallen Kingdom
The dinosaurs are back and we are excited to see this flick that opens today!  Here's what Rotten Tomato has to say:  It's been three years since theme park and luxury resort Jurassic World was destroyed by dinosaurs out of containment. Isla Nublar now sits abandoned by humans while the surviving dinosaurs fend for themselves in the jungles. When the island's dormant volcano begins roaring to life, Owen (Chris Pratt) and Claire (Bryce Dallas Howard) mount a campaign to rescue the remaining dinosaurs from this extinction-level event. Owen is driven to find Blue, his lead raptor who's still missing in the wild, and Claire has grown a respect for these creatures she now makes her mission. Arriving on the unstable island as lava begins raining down, their expedition uncovers a conspiracy that could return our entire planet to a perilous order not seen since prehistoric times.

3.  National Onion Rings Day
Guess what today is - National Onion Rings Day!!  Now this is a holiday I can get on board with - bring on those deep fried rings of deliciousness.  We just might be having an order for dinner tonight.

National Onion Rings Day June 22

4.  The Perfect Couple
Elin Hilderbrand's new novel hit the stands this week and it's definitely on my read list.  She has an amazing talent to put out the best summer reads.  Here's Amazon's summary of this one ~
It's Nantucket wedding season, also known as summer-the sight of a bride racing down Main Street is as common as the sun setting at Madaket Beach. The Otis-Winbury wedding promises to be an event to remember: the groom's wealthy parents have spared no expense to host a lavish ceremony at their oceanfront estate.
But it's going to be memorable for all the wrong reasons after tragedy strikes: a body is discovered in Nantucket Harbor just hours before the ceremony-and everyone in the wedding party is suddenly a suspect. As Chief of Police Ed Kapenash interviews the bride, the groom, the groom's famous mystery-novelist mother, and even a member of his own family, he discovers that every wedding is a minefield-and no couple is perfect. Featuring beloved characters from The Castaways, Beautiful Day, and A Summer Affair, The Perfect Couple proves once again that Elin Hilderbrand is the queen of the summer beach read.
What to add it to your reading list?  Click HERE to grab your copy.

5.  Summer dreaming....

No automatic alt text available.

Have a great weekend!  We'll be seeing The Wiz tonight at the Muny.  Keep your fingers crossed that we don't get rained on!  Tomorrow Eric is off so we get to spend the day together.  We're still kicking around what our plans are so check back next week to see what we decided to do!

Happy Summer Solstice!

Welcome to Thinking Out Loud Thursday!  I'm doing a little thinking out loud today about the longest day of the year for us here in the Northern Hemisphere. When exactly is summer solstice?  Well, it's the exact moment when the sun sits directly over the Tropic of Cancer (the 23.5° north latitude mark).  For us in the central time zone it occurred at 5:07 a.m.  Were you up to see it happen?    I sometimes forget that while we're enjoying the longest day of the year, our friends in Australia are experiencing their shortest day.

Summer solstice is my friend Tracy's favorite day of the year.  Yesterday, summer solstice eve, I delivered to her a goody bag to celebrate.

Inside were a few fun summer items.  Target had the cutest plates and napkins in their dollar section!  Their marketing person was a genius to put that section right when you walk in the door.

A summer staple is flip flops and I found these adorable ones at the Dollar Store.

No summer bag is complete without sunscreen products and I am loving the Sport CoolZone spray by Banana Boat.

Some other items that rounded out the bag were bubbles, flamingo stir sticks, flamingo to do list, coasters, hair bands and lip balm.  Oh, and let's now forget the pinwheel!

Happy solstice!  Hope you enjoy this enchanting day when the sunlight lasts the longest!

Five on Friday - June 15, 2018

Hello everyone!  Are you ready for Father's Day weekend?  Ready or not, it's here!  We celebrated with my dad a bit early and now I'm looking forward to spending the day on Sunday with Eric.  But before that, here's my five for today ~

1.  Loft Swing Dress
I bought this little number earlier this week and was thrilled when it arrived.  The colors are red, white and blue and will be perfect to wear around the Fourth of July.  To sweeten the deal a little bit more, it's even on sale right now!  Click HERE if you're looking for a cute little dress for the upcoming holiday.  Use code NEWNOW for a further discount.

My Target Beauty box arrived this week and inside was a sample of the Good Chemistry Queen Bee fragrance.  I headed to Target the next morning to buy the full size version and was so disappointed when the slot was completely empty.  Then I realized that Good Chemistry actually had a huge variety of different fragrances, so I began to sample some of the others.  Lo and behold, I found one I loved even more!  Magnolia Violet came home with me and it is perfect for summer.  Have you checked out the Good Chemistry fragrances?

Over a year ago I opened one of my cabinet doors and my entire set of depression glass came tumbling at me.  I was able to catch one saucer and held it in my hand as I looked around at the shattered glass with a sick feeling in my stomach.  Then when I saw that the glass had hit my stove and chipped away a chunk of the paint, the tears could no longer be held back.  Since that day, every time I saw the chip in my stove it made me a little sad.  Well, this week Eric brought home the magic bottle of Rust-Oleum Appliance Touch Up Paint and the chip is gone!  This stuff worked like a charm.  If you have a chip in your appliance and are in need of some touch up paint, click HERE!

You've heard me mention this book before, but it deserves to be mentioned again.  The Wife Between Us is a definitely page turner.  There are several clever twists in this book you will never see coming!  I found it hard to put down and I think you would too.  Click HERE to check it out.  This would be a great book to have with you on vacation.

5.  Cheers....

I've been off work since Wednesday and have been loving every minute of it!  Today the fun continues as we attend our first Muny performance of the season.  I had planned to have a picnic before the show, but am rethinking that because we have a heat advisory in place.  Hope you have a great weekend!  See you back next week.

Thinking Out Loud Thursday - June 14, 2018

Hello friends!  Thanks for stopping by Thinking Out Loud Thursday.

Today is the second of three days off work for me.  Eric and I had a bazillion house projects that were accumulating so I decided to take a few days and try to get some of them done.  Yesterday was day one and even though we worked our rear ends off, the list is no where near complete!  However, we did manage to get a few things checked off the list and that is a win in my book!

Knowing that my to-do list is a lot longer than my time to get everything done, I'm thinking out loud today about a few of my favorite quotes that help keep me motivated.

Having trouble getting started? Take a deep breath and just begin...

Now I've got to get back to work!  I'll be sharing some of the projects that kept me busy next week and you won't want to miss them!

Have a great Thursday!  Link up and share what you're thinking out loud about today.
