4th of July Three-Tier Tray

Guess what - I got a new three-tier tray and I'm happy to show it off today!  I love, love, love the silver one that had been sitting in my kitchen window since it was gifted to me, but when I saw this white one on sale at Hobby Lobby I just couldn't pass it up!

I didn't buy a lot of new stuff this year, so the new tray at least makes the decorations look a little different than they did last year.  See the fabric lining each level?  That was supposed to be made into garland last year.  Oops!  #craftprojectnotstarted

The window holds more than the tray.  The red, white and blue flows over on each side.

Happy 4th of July!

Weekending - June 26, 2020

Happy Monday!  The weekend went by so fast it's hard to believe we even had one.  Eric had a rare weekend off and, sadly, we really didn't do anything extravagant.  We are still avoiding crowds and pretty much staying at home.  I will be so glad when COVID is a thing of the past!  Here are a few things we did squeeze in ~

I had heard that the Saharan Dust Storm was going to be passing by our part of the country this weekend and the potential for beautiful sunsets was high.  There are few things I love more than waterfalls and sunsets.  The news that sunsets might be even more spectacular because of the dust had me excited to sit and watch the sun do down.  Friday night we drove to a lake about an hour from our house, Lake Carlye, for a picnic in hopes of seeing an impressive sunset.  Mission accomplished!

We arrived in Lake Carlye with time to spare before the sun went down which gave us some time to stop by the dam.  The water was churning through the gates.  If you looked closely, you could see fish jumping into the air.

Being unfamiliar with the lake, we had no idea where the best place would be to watch the setting sun.  We drove to the east side of the lake and was lucky to stumble upon a great little grassy area to spread out our blanket and enjoy our picnic while the sun put on its' show.

The night was capped off with ice cream from one of our recent finds - Dairy King.  It was a great Friday night date!  One that left both Eric and I saying we should do this more often.

Saturday morning pancakes were on the menu. Has Hungry Jack's syrup always had this smiley face or is that new?

The weather was pretty cloudy with much-needed spots of showers.  We had a very lazy day of binge-watching Schitt's Creek.  We can now proudly say we have finished the entire series!  If you haven't watched it, put it on your list.  I found the first season to be a bit slow, but it definitely picks up.  The documentary about the show, Best Wishes, Warmest Regards, had me in tears.  So good!

The mailman brought me some joy when he dropped off my Walmart Beauty Box.  This $5 subscription never disappoints.  I'm particularly excited to try the hello toothbrush and whitening toothpaste.

Sunday was another cloudy day with even more showers.  We watched church online and piddled around the house.  The 4th of July three-tier stand came together and I'll be doing a post on it tomorrow.

We finished the weekend with a trip to another favorite ice cream joint - Dairy Haven.  Not a bad way to end the weekend!

Hope you have a wonderful few days!  Join me tomorrow when I share pictures from the 4th of July three-tier stand.  I'll also be hosting a link-ups on Wednesday with Wonderful Wednesday Blog Hop, Thursday with Thinking Out Loud Thursday and Friday with Friday Favorites Linky Party.

Five on Friday - June 26, 2020

Happy Friday!  This has been a bit of a long week and I'm excited to get the weekend started.  I love summer weekends!  I also love sharing my five so let's get started ~

1.  Hamilton the Musical
Get ready - Disney Plus will be making Hamilton The Musical available on July 3.  That's only a week away!  You'll need a subscription to Disney Plus, which costs $6.99 per month.  That's a whole lot cheaper than tickets to see this show!  We were lucky enough to see Hamilton the last time it passed through St. Louis.  I'm so looking forward to seeing it again while cozied up on the couch.  Or we might move the TV outside and watch it under the stars.  Regardless of where we decide to view this magnificent musical, I'm so excited to see it again!

2.  Face Mask Nose Clips
Are you having a hard time wearing your cloth face mask with your glasses?  So many people I know that wear glasses are experiencing the frustration of their glasses fogging up when their mask is on.  A friend at work purchased these clips (HERE) and the problem was solved!  So clever!

3.  Kakuro Puzzles
Are you a lover of Sudoko puzzles?  Ready to take it up a notch?  My daughter-in-law recently showed me her new book of Kakuro puzzles.  What is a Kakuro puzzle you ask?  Amazon explains it this way, "Kakuro puzzles (often referred to as Cross Sums or Cross Addition Puzzles) are number puzzles solved in a crossword style grid. A number above the diagonal line in a black square represents the total of the numbers in the white squares to the right of it; similarly, a number below the diagonal line is the total sum of the digits in the white squares below it."  Sounds like the perfect thing to do at the pool or beach this summer.  You can get yours HERE.

When all the sheltering in place started happening, Eric and I began using cloth napkins at home.  At first, it was just because I didn't know if there would be a shortage of paper ones we typically use.  Then I kept doing it just because I liked them.  It also makes me feel like we're helping the environment in a really tiny little way.  This pack of 12 is only $17.99.  There's enough to last us all week and they take up very little space in the washer.  Get yourself some and help save the planet!  :)

5.  The other day...

Enjoy your last weekend in June.  Eric and I are celebrating the Saharan dust cloud passing through the area by catching the sunset tonight over a local lake.  The dust cloud is supposed to make the sunset spectacular and who doesn't love a good sunset?!?

July Mantel on Thinking Out Loud Thursday

Hello friends!  Welcome to Thinking Out Loud Thursday.  Today I'm thinking about our July Mantel and sharing pictures with you.

I honestly thought about not decorating this year because we won't be having guests, but then I thought again.  We enjoy the festive look so out came the red, white and blue!  Now for the photo dump ~

One of my very first posts ever to appear on this blog was showing how I made these USA blocks.  That was years ago and I'm still pretty proud of the way they turned out.  They were super easy to do.  You can see just how easy HERE.

What are you thinking out loud about today?  Link up and share!  I'd love to hear from you.
