Five on Friday - February 26, 2021

Happy Friday!  Boy, this week has flown by!  Heck, not just this week but the whole month!  Are you looking forward to the last weekend of the month?  Let's get it started with my five for today ~

1.  Cheez-It Loaded Popcorn
Popcorn is one of my most favorite things and Cheez-It just took it to a new level!  For a limited time, Cheez-It's loaded popcorn is hitting the shelves.  It's coming in two flavors:  Cheddar and White Cheddar.  They are reporting the cheddar version tastes just like the original Cheez-It flavor in the form of "light and airy" popcorn.  Yes, please!

2.  Bob Dylan - 1970
Bob Dylan - 1970 is being widely released today!  This three-disc collection was first released in December as part of the Bob Dylan - 50th Anniversary Collection.  One of the highlights is Dylan's studio sit-down with George Harrison.  The collection includes previously unreleased outtakes from the sessions that produced Self Portrait and New Morning.  Can't wait to take a listen to this one!

3.  78th Golden Globes
Sunday night you will find me plopped on the couch with my eyes glued on the TV watching the 78th Golden Globes.  The event is being hosted by Amy Poehler and Tina Fey for the fourth time.  2015 was the last time they hosted.  This year Amy Poehler will be hosting from the Beverly Hilton on the West Coast while Tina Fey will be coming to us from New York's Rainbow Room.  Each year while watching we add several shows to our list of ones we want to see and I'm sure this year will be no different.  I'm also pumped to see Jane Fonda receive the Cecil D. deMille Award.  Will you be watching?

I recently saw an interview with Jamie Kern Lima by Ed Mylett and fell in love with her!  Her book, Believe It, just came out this week and I can't wait to read it.  Here's the summary from Amazon ~
Imagine overcoming the things holding you back, breaking through the barrier of self-doubt and fully becoming the person you were born to be!

In Believe It, Jamie Kern Lima, founder of IT Cosmetics, shares the wild but true story of how a once struggling waitress turned her against-the-grain idea into an international best-selling sensation, eventually selling the company for more than a billion dollars and becoming the first female CEO of a brand in L’OrĂ©al’s 100+ year history. Faced with self-doubt, body-doubt, God-doubt, down to her last few dollars and told “No one is going to buy makeup from someone who has your body”, Jamie reveals for the first time what really went down, how she almost didn’t make it, how she learned to trust herself, and the powerful lessons you, too, can use to go from underestimated to unstoppable.

With radical vulnerability and honesty, Jamie takes you on a journey through deeply personal stories of heartbreak and resilience - including accidentally finding out she was adopted when she was in her 20s and the reverberations this has had on all aspects of her life. Jamie also pulls back the curtain on her fight to change the beauty industry’s use of unrealistic images, on behalf of all the little girls who are about to start doubting themselves, and all of the grown women who still do.

Spellbinding, riveting, with raw vulnerability and down-to-earth warmth, Believe It shakes your soul and shows you that you, too, have what it takes to believe in yourself, trust yourself, and go from doubting you’re enough to knowing you’re enough! Do you have big goals, hopes, and dreams but let rejection get in the way? Do you struggle with feeling like you’re not enough and like success is something that happens to other people, but have a hard time believing it’s possible for you? Do you let past mistakes and failures hold you back? Do you know deep down inside that you were created for more, but somehow still doubt yourself?

In Believe It you’ll discover how to...
    - Overcome self-doubt
    - Gain the courage to take risks and empower yourself and others
    - Tune into and trust your own intuition
    - Let go of your mistakes and insecurities
    - Turn down the volume on your inner critic
    - Handle the rejection, the haters, and the mean girls
    - Boost your confidence
    - Start your dream (and keep going!)
        And much more

If you’ve ever doubted yourself or felt truly underestimated, this book will inspire a new kind of belief and confidence in you and your dreams!

5.  Ever have a feeling...

Hope you have a wonderful weekend!  Taking down Valentine's decorations and putting up St. Patrick's Day decor is on the agenda for me.  Pop in next week to see what other things kept us busy this weekend.

Weathering the Storm

Welcome to Thinking Out Loud Thursday where I talk about something on my mind and invite you to link up and do the same.

Today my mind is circling around the pandemic and how it has, and is, truly affecting each of us differently.  A friend of mine had the below graphic on her Facebook page and I couldn't agree with it more!

We are all in this storm together rather we are living our lives like nothing is happening or you are sheltering in place and rarely walk out your front door.  Each of us has different comfort zones.

There's a new term you might start hearing about the pandemic:  PTSE.  Pandemic Trauma and Stress Experience (PTSE) is something we are all experiencing in some form or the other.

One of the podcasts I listen to, Here's Something Good, addressed this very topic last week.  On the podcast, Dr. Gail Saltz explains that signs of PTSE are fear for the future, weariness for the present, and grief for the lost past.  Any of those things feelings you've had?  I'm definitely raising my hand over here and shaking my head yes!

Some of the suggestions Dr. Saltz has for overcoming PTSE are to cultivate and preserve positive experiences and relationships, identify your stressors caused by the pandemic, seek out ways to specifically address what's causing your stress, identify and maximize coping tools and seek help when it's needed and accept help when it's offered.

If you have a minute, I encourage you to take a listen to this episode of Here's Something Good.  It's under 10 minutes long and Dr. Saltz offers sound advice.  Actually, I'd recommend adding Here's Something Good to your podcast library and listen everyday.  Each episode is packed with aspiring good news!  And couldn't we all use a little more good news in our lives right now!

Now it's your turn - what are you thinking out loud about today?  Link up and share!

Five on Friday - February 19, 2021

Happy Friday!  Hope you guys have been able to stay warm this week.  We are actually supposed to get above freezing here this weekend and I'm here for it!  Before our heatwave, let me share my five for this week ~

1.  I Care A Lot
The 2020 movie I Care A Lot starring Rosamund Pike is releasing on Netflix today and I'm so excited to see it!  This movie was released in theaters last September, but since we haven't been to an actual theater we haven't seen it yet.  Date night in the family room will be showing this movie soon!  Here's the synopsis from Rotten Tomatoes ~
Poised with sharklike self-assurance, Marla Grayson (Academy Award nominee Rosamund Pike) is a professional, court-appointed guardian for dozens of elderly wards whose assets she seizes and cunningly bilks through dubious but legal means. It's a well-oiled racket that Marla and her business-partner and lover Fran (Eiza GonzĂ¡lez) use with brutal efficiency on their latest "cherry," Jennifer Peterson (two-time Academy Award winner Dianne Wiest) -- a wealthy retiree with no living heirs or family. But when their mark turns out to have an equally shady secret of her own and connections to a volatile gangster (Golden Globe winner Peter Dinklage), Marla is forced to level up in a game only predators can play -- one that's neither fair, nor square.

We bought this $15 bird feeder last year and it has brought us more joy.  I was afraid it would fall apart rather soon, but a year later it's still good as new.  When the snow fell at the beginning of this week, we had so many birds dining at our feeder.  A couple of days we even had so many birds we had to fill it up twice!  The feeder can be viewed from our kitchen table and it's wonderfully relaxing to sit and watch the birds fill themselves on the food from the feeder.  Do you have a place that would be perfect to hang one?

One thing I hate to spend a lot of money on is sports bras.  I found this pack of three for $13 and love them!  They have been laundered several times and are still as comfortable as the day I purchased them.  I throw them in the wash and then line dry.  Definite winners!

4.  Cold Stone Creamery Lucky Charms Ice Cream
Do you have a Cold Stone Creamery near you?  If so, pop in for a St. Patrick's Day treat!  Starting March 1, they are serving up Lucky Charms Ice Cream with gold glitter on top.  If you would prefer to drink your dessert, they can also whip up a shake using the Lucky Charms ice cream.  Lucky Charms is also selling their special St. Patrick's Day cereal in stores that will turn your milk green.  How fun is that!

5.  Be careful out there...

Have a warm, safe weekend!  We are doing a few things on Zoom and that's about it.  I have book club on Monday, so I need to finish the book over the weekend.  Lots of reading to do!  See you back here next week.

It's Cold!

Welcome to Thinking Out Loud Thursday where I talk about something I'm thinking out loud about and invite you to link up and do the same.

Today I'm talking about what is on a lot of people's minds - it's COLD!  We have been experiencing negative and single-digit temps and it's pretty miserable to be outside for more than a nanosecond.  I have a few favorite things dealing with cold weather so I thought this might be a great time to share them with you!

A few years ago my mom and dad gifted me a windshield cover and it quickly became one of my favorite things.  If the weather is predicted to be snowing or icy, I put this baby on my windshield when I get to work and when I come out it's a breeze to whip it off.  Underneath is my cleaned-off windshield!  If parking outside is something you do, get one of these pronto!

It's amazing how much cold air comes in around the outlets on your outside walls.  We installed foam outlet sealers and they made a huge difference!  They were so easy to install and so economical.

We keep our house pretty cool when we are sleeping and are only up for a short time in the mornings before heading off to work.  For years we've been using this little heater in the bathroom when we are getting ready in the morning.  Lucky for me, Eric is the first one up so it's nice and toasty when I'm ready to shower.  It saves us from heating up the entire house when the only room we are in is the bathroom.  I've been known to put it under the table when I'm working on a project too to keep my feet warm.

I love keeping a stash of hand warmers around in the winter.  If we have to go out to shovel snow, they are perfect to slip in your gloves or boots.  It's amazing how much warmer I feel if I can at least keep my hands and feet warm!

These are just a few of my favorite winter items to have around.  What are some of your favorites?

Now it's your turn - what are you thinking out loud about today.  Link up and share!
