Five on Friday - December 12, 2014

What a fun week!  I had something festive to do every night this week and the holiday spirit caught me.  I've had Christmas music playing at my desk at work, the house is completely decorated and I'm getting fairly close to being finished with shopping.  Hopefully this weekend I can check off the rest of the gifts I need to buy and get started with the wrapping.  But before I do that, let me present this week's Five on Friday

1.  BabyCakes
I received a batch of BabyCakes in the mail last week and I almost didn't get a picture before we ate them up!  Baby Cakes Cake Bites are made by my friend, Deb, in Pana, Illinois.  These little cake balls of deliciousness are perfect for any party or event.  We used them on the dessert table at my son's wedding last year and everyone RAVED about them.  The flavors change with the season -- currently available are Almond Spritz Cookie, Turtle Brownie Bite, Cupcake, Red Velvet Decadence, Peanut Butter Cup and Gingerbread - YUM!!  Deb is great at customizing any decoration (think colors, monograms, sports team - you name it) so please contact her (phone 217-562-2767 or Facebook at BabyCakes Cake Bites) to see how she can make your party-specific cake bites over-the-top special.  As an added bonus, they are very reasonably priced and ship-able.  I'm thinking they will make great Christmas gifts for several people on my list, New Year's Eve celebration snacks, birthday parties or wedding favors -- oh heck, the list is endless where serving BabyCakes would be a great idea.

2.  Lightkeeper Pro
We've all been there at one time or the other -- you plug in your pre-lit Christmas tree, garland, (fill in the blank lights) and only half the lights come to life.  If you're like me, you immediately curse, stomp your feet and throw a fit better than any two-year old.  Well, not any more!!!  This handy gadget magically fixes your lights.  Yes, that's right -- FIXES YOUR LIGHTS! You simply pull out any light, plug this baby in, and pull the trigger repeatedly until the lights come on.  It's Christmas magic.  You can get one at Home Depot right now for $19.98.  Tell me you don't want one.

3.  Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer
It just wouldn't seem like Christmas without Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer!  Dear ole' Rudolph celebrates a big birthday this year -- he turned 50.  Yep, this classic little reindeer has been around for half a century.  Now that's a true classic!  Happy Birthday, Rudolph.

4.  Hide the Pickle
Do you know about hiding the pickle ornament in your Christmas tree?  We're adopting this German tradition in our house this year for the first time.  I know, I don't have little ones around anymore.  But I thought this could be fun for my nephews when they arrive.  The jest of it is you hide the pickle ornament in the tree and the first child to find it gets an extra gift.  The first adult who finds the pickle is said to have good luck for the whole year.  (Who can't use some good luck!)  Anybody else do this at their house?

5.  Christmas Warning
Be careful what you say out there!

Have a great weekend.  I think we are going to try to watch Frozen.  We're probably the only people left on this planet who haven't seen it!  Stop back by on Monday - I have a December giveaway that will be going live.  You won't want to miss the opportunity to enter and win some free cash.

  9. We have that light fixer and it is wonderful. And we hide the pickle on the tree for our kids too. I love #5 on your list. I have to admit I wore quite a few Christmas sweaters back in the 90s!

  10. Rudolph is now 50. I hope they remake a movie for him. The current generation needs to be identified too with the reindeer behind the jingle.

  11. My Hubs has been waiting for Rudolph since Thanksgiving. He and his dad watched it every Christmas until his Dad passed away and he's been continuing the tradition ever since :)

  17. Those little babycakes look adorable!! Haha the Hide the Pickle is a great idea and I've heard of others doing it. We give our kids jars of pickles for Christmas as a joke so this would be a fun way to remember those memories lol! Happy Holidays!
