Let's get to this week's Five on Friday:
1. US Flag Etiquette
Many people will be flying a US Flag in honor of Memorial Day this weekend. I thought you might be interested in seeing this information from USFlag.org:
Flag Etiquette
The flag should be cleaned and mended when necessary. When a flag is so worn it is no longer fit to serve as a symbol of our country, it should be destroyed by burning in a dignified manner. |
2. Washers
I'm headed to Kansas City this weekend for a fun family washers tournament. Have you ever played this great backyard game? It's so much fun and I can't wait to get my game on. If you're looking for a great game the whole family can play, you should invest in a set of washers. Low down on the rules: each player throws washers toward the opposite cup. Put the washer in the cup and you score 5 points, We play you also gets points if you put a washer in the box, but not in the cup. Can't wait for the play to begin!
You can buy this set HERE |
3. Beach Read
In one of my previous posts, I was talking about beach reads and my friend Michelle, who blogs over at Grammie Time, suggested Diane Champberlain's trilogy that starts with the book Keeper of the Light. I read the entire book last week on vacation and am deep into the second book Kiss River. Keeper of the Light is a tale of romantic obsession and betrayal. It's set on the Outer Banks and you can't help but fall in them with the good guys in this book. Fun, easy read. Perfect for vacation.
4. Dancing with the Stars
Congratulations to Rumor and Val!! Eric and I were hooked on Dancing with the Stars this season. I even voted during the last show -- so unlike me. Anyone else watch? This season had some awesome dancers and the finals were close. I really wish our bodies could have just absorbed some of their dancing talent by watching the show. I'd love to be able to whirl around the dance floor like some of the contestants did. Who did you hope would win?

Special shout out to our nephew, Mason. He is graduating from high school tonight and I couldn't be prouder of this young man. He's the oldest son of my brother and was my first born nephew. Mason has always been the best big brother to Landon and is one of the hardest working people I know. I'm honored to be his aunt! Congratulations Mason!! We love you.
It's also my friend Tracy's birthday today. Happy birthday, Tracy!! Can't wait to celebrate your special day next weekend!

Love this post. Thanks for the shout out my friend! Wait until the third book. It will blow you away!! So glad you are reading them. Yes, yes, yes, on Rumer and Val. Mentioned them too in my Thankful Friday post. I wanted VAL to win so badly. I've watched this every season and you knew he wanted it so badly. That games looks like fun. We are cornhole crazies over here. Playing this weekend also. We have an annual tournament in the fall with our family so practice time is here. Cracked up over the Wizard of Oz pictures, great slogan! Have a ton of fun this weekend, as you always do.
ReplyDeleteMy husband is a military man, so I leave all our flag etiquette up to him. I never knew there were so many rules, though, until I met him.
ReplyDeleteI'm in Canada do our holiday was last weekend but this is great. I am pretty clueless when it comes to stuff like this so good to know. Can apply to us too! - jeanine

I did not know about all the flag rules! I knew some, but you see flags on plates, napkins, etc. all the time! I'm going to have to check out the Diane Chamberlin book! I love reading :) We don't have many tornadoes in this part of OH, but we had a bad one several years ago that destroyed homes.
ReplyDeleteLove, love, Love Diane Chamberlain. Just finished "The Bay At Midnight" and loved it! The WOz funny totally cracked me up!
ReplyDeletei absolutly love diane chamberlain. ..
ReplyDeletei have to say that i also didnt know about the flags rules... i love playig washers... have fun in KC (brook)
Who knew there were so many rules of flag etiquette?! I wonder if we're the same with the Irish tri-colour, I've never given it much though until now!
ReplyDeleteIt was nice to read the flag etiquette. Here in Baltimore just a few short weeks ago, we had some citizens stomping and burning the flag {during riots}. It was so sad to see... and certainly very disrespectful to the men and women who have died for their freedom!

I never played washers but it sounds like a great yard game. It sounds like a good conversation game during barbeques.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing flag etiquette - very important for this weekend. Washers sounds like a pretty fun game :)
ReplyDeleteI love all the rules for the flag. There are so many that are broken on a daily basis that is sad. All of the traditions and rules behind it have always been so fascinating to me.

ReplyDeleteI love Dancing with the Stars. I didn't like the outcome. I had different winners in mind.
ReplyDeleteI had to look up the difference between tornado watch and warning. I couldn't remember which was worse.
ReplyDeleteThank you for this wonderful post! I need to share it with my family because I want them to also learn about the Flag etiquette!
ReplyDeleteAnd just like you I was hooked with Dancing with the Stars because of the uber talented Rumer Willis! She is so wonderful! Love the results!
