Weekending - August 5, 2016

Oh my- - Monday is coming way too fast this week.  I'm sitting here watching the Olympics as I type and have no motivation to get up and start getting ready for the week ahead.

This weekend was super fun.  It had the best of a lot of things and as I sit here and reflect back, it just makes me smile.  Here's what we did ~

Friday afternoon I picked Ian and Kayla up from the airport.  They were arriving home from their vacation and it was wonderful listening to them verbally download their trip details as I drove them home.  Eric and I later met them at the Muny to see Fiddler on the Roof.  The weather was beautiful and it was a great night to sit outside and watch the production.

There is only one more show left this season - Aida.  If you're in the St. Louis area and was wanting to get to the Muny this year, you better get on it!

We woke up bright and early on Saturday to get some errands done so we could head to the 135th Annual Old Settlers Picnic.  This event was held in my hometown of New Florence, Missouri and it's a true community treasure.  The organizers work tirelessly to pull off an event that has fun activities for all ages.  They once again did an outstanding job and should be very proud of themselves.  We are already looking forward to next year!

We walked in the cake walk and I actually stopped on the winning number.  From the table of homemade treats, I choose a pineapple upside down cake.  It was so yummy!

Next was the baby show.  My family had three babies entered and all three came out winners.  Yes, my great nephew, nephew and niece are so darn cute!

After the baby show, we enjoyed the greased pig contest.  Never seen a greased pig contest?  Well, it's something to see!  The pigs are lathered with dish soap and the kids get dish soap on their hands.  Then the pig is released and the kids try to catch it.  Not an easy task!  (No pigs were harmed!)

Bingo was next on the agenda.  Love me some bingo!

After a full day of fun (and a delicious fish sandwich from the Lion's Club food stand) we headed home.  What a fun day!  It was great seeing friends and family.

Sunday was church and watching the Olympics!  Love the personal stories on the athletes and their families.  Go USA!

Hope your weekend was also wonderful.  I'm not remotely ready for Monday to be here.  But it will come and next weekend will be here before we know it.  This is one of those weeks where I have something going on every evening this week.  Glad I can survive on little sleep!

  1. I LOVED watching the Olympics this weekend too! It was hard not to get totally sucked in, but at the same time, it only happens every couple years so I want to enjoy it when it's here! :)

  2. You are right, the weather was AMAZING for the show Friday night. Not so sure about Aida on Friday but can't believe it marks the end of summer.

  4. I am also not ready for it to be Monday but alas, here we are.
The weather looks nice there, warm but not too sticky.

So I'm only attaching this link because I read it last week and I didn't realise how sticky it is writing or posting about the Olympics. I would hate to see something happen because of anything posted innocently.
