Five on Friday - April 28, 2017

Friday is here and I'm so ready for the weekend!  This has been a fast week and just thinking about being able to sleep in a bit on Saturday puts a smile on my face!  I've got five fun things to share with you today.  Take a look ~

1.  Bath and Body Works Fizzies
Did you know that Bath and Body is now selling bath fizzies?!?  And their names are so fun ~ Hello Beautiful, Endless Weekend, A Thousand Wishes, Love and Sunshine.  Turn your bath into a luxurious oasis of fun, color and scent by plopping one in the water.  Would a collection of these not make a super fun Mother's Day gift!  If you use the code JUSTPEACHY, you can get 25% off your entire order.  Get 'em before they are gone!

2.  Into the Water
Did you love The Girl on the Train?  The author, Paula Hawkins, has her next book coming out May 2 and it is currently available to pre-order.  Could be a great summer read!  Here's how Amazon sums up the book, "A single mother turns up dead at the bottom of the river that runs through town. Earlier in the summer, a vulnerable teenage girl met the same fate. They are not the first women lost to these dark waters, but their deaths disturb the river and its history, dredging up secrets long submerged.

Left behind is a lonely fifteen-year-old girl. Parentless and friendless, she now finds herself in the care of her mother's sister, a fearful stranger who has been dragged back to the place she deliberately ran from—a place to which she vowed she'd never return.

With the same propulsive writing and acute understanding of human instincts that captivated millions of readers around the world in her explosive debut thriller, The Girl on the Train, Paula Hawkins delivers an urgent, twisting, deeply satisfying read that hinges on the deceptiveness of emotion and memory, as well as the devastating ways that the past can reach a long arm into the present.

Beware a calm surface—you never know what lies beneath."

I'm adding this psychological suspense novel to my summer reading list!  Click HERE to purchase.

Katy Perry, along with Migos, is dropping a new song today titled Bon Appetit.  KatyCats were all excited on Monday when she tweeted out her World's Best Cherry Pie recipe.  Some people are speculating that hidden in the recipe are song lyrics to the new tune.  How clever is that!  Here's the tweeted recipe.  Sounds pretty delicious to me!

4.  The Circle
I've seen the previews for this movie and I truly think Tom Hanks has done it again.  Here's the storyline from Movie Insider, "When Mae (Emma Watson) is hired to work for the world’s largest and most powerful tech & social media company, she sees it as an opportunity of a lifetime. As she rises through the ranks, she is encouraged by the company’s founder, Eamon Bailey (Tom Hanks), to engage in a groundbreaking experiment that pushes the boundaries of privacy, ethics and ultimately her personal freedom. Her participation in the experiment, and every decision she makes begin to affect the lives and future of her friends, family and that of humanity."

5.  Reality...
Have a wonderful weekend!  We will be glued to the TV tonight watching the St. Louis Blues try to get their first victory in the second round of the playoffs.  LGB!!  There's a ton of rain in the forecast so it sounds like we are going to be spending most of the weekend inside.  That's fine by me because I'm helping with a wedding next weekend and I have plenty of things to keep me busy!  See you soon!

Thinking Out Loud Thursday - April 27, 2017

Welcome to another edition of Thinking Out Loud Thursday!  Thanks for stopping by to see what I'm thinking out loud about today.  Link up below and share what's on your mind.

I got a new computer this week.  (Notice there's no explanation point expressing excitement at the end of that sentence.)  As much as I want to be feeling a frenzy of excitement, it's more of a feeling of dread.  My files aren't exactly where they were, so I'm going to have to spend some time organizing things a bit.  Something I'm really not very excited to spend my time doing.  I have a hard enough time moving forward and getting everything done that I want to accomplish.  Going back and redoing things from the past rarely happens with a smile on my face!

So my heart stopped when I went to download my favorite photo editor, Picasa, and saw this ~

We’ve decided to retire Picasa in order to focus on a single photo service in Google Photos – a new, smarter photo app that works seamlessly across mobile and the web.

Image result for picasa photo editor

What!?!  But I love Picasa!  How can they just "retire" it?!?  It was so easy to use and made my photos look so much better.  My heart is broken.

So friends, I need your help.  I'm in a real conundrum.  What free photo editor do you use?  Even if it's not free, I'd love to hear your recommendations.  This girl needs a new photo editor to fall in love with!

Feel free to link up below and tell me what you're thinking out loud about today.  See you tomorrow for Friday Favorites and Five on Friday.  Right now I need to get back to working out the kinks on this new computer!

Weekending - April 21, 2017

Hello friends!  How did Monday get here so quickly?!?  We had a lovely weekend and the only down side was it passing so fast.

Friday night I met some friends after work at a new joint and am already trying to figure out when I can go back.  Seriously, it was that good!  Club Taco in Kirkwood was the perfect little spot to grab a drink and dinner to start the weekend.  They have an adorable little area to sit outside, but the rain made our decision to sit inside pretty easy.

We got there in time for their happy hour pricing and enjoyed 1/2 price tacos and 2 for 1 house margaritas and sangria.  What a deal!  I ordered a traditional carnitas and traditional bisteca taco with a side of club tots.  The tots - OMG!!  Fried tots with aged white cheddar, freshly roasted green chiles, chipotle crema and a Buttonwood Farm free-rage fried egg topped with radish.  I can't stop thinking about how good it was!

One of my friends got a side of roasted street corn casserole.  She let me take a bite and I literally ordered six sides of them to go.  We were having Ian and Kayla over to watch the St. Louis Blues hockey games on Saturday and it was going to make a perfect side to the chicken enchiladas I was making. (Just an FYI, everyone at my house LOVED the corn!)

After the food was devoured, we hung around for another drink.  The watermelon basil 'rita sounded too good to pass up so I ordered one of those.  Fabulous!  Guys, this little place is definitely worth checking out.  It was the perfect place to catch up with my friends!

Saturday morning I got up early and started cooking.  We made the chicken enchiladas casserole that I blogged about HERE, a new chocolate cake recipe that I'll have share with you and homemade ice cream.  Fun way to spend a Saturday morning!

Between cooking and when Kayla and Ian were arriving, we popped in Fezziwig's to pick up a few items.  They were having an Earth Day sale and we had wanted to take advantage of it!  They carry a pear wine that is so delightful.  We're stocked and ready to enjoy it with friends now.

The highlight of the day was the St. Louis Blues winning their game and moving on to the second round of the NHL playoffs!!  We were so excited to have Kayla and Ian there to watch it with us.  Could this be our year to win the cup?!?  Let's hope so!
Sunday was sailing along quite nicely -- right up until the time Eric was headed for work and experienced car trouble.  Man, can that really throw a wrench into things!  He ended up taking my car and leaving me home with no vehicle.  First world problems I know, but darn is it inconvenient only having one car with two working people going in opposite directions!  We are hoping to get the car back by Wednesday.  Until then, we are going to have to do some creative commuting.

Hope you had a wonderful weekend and your week is off to a great start.  Cross your fingers that life with two cars resumes at our house soon!

Check out what others were up to this weekend.

Five on Friday - April 21, 2017

Friday is here!  Boy did that come fast.  I honestly don't know where this week went, but it's gone.  I sure hope the weekend doesn't zoom by as fast as the work week did!  That being said, I'm pretty darn excited that the weekend is here already.  Hopefully I'll get some of the things done that I totally blew off doing last weekend.

Before today gets away from us, here's my five for today ~

1.  National Earth Day
Saturday is the celebration of Earth Day.  Get outside and enjoy some fresh air.  Plant some flowers or a garden.  Take a nature hike.  There's lots of fancy ways to make National Earth Day special, but at a bare minimum at least step outside, take a big deep breath and look around you.  We live in the most amazing place.  Let's all try, even for just a day, to help sustain this planet we call home.

Image result for national earth day

2.  Born in China
Speaking of Earth Day, Disneynature has a movie opening today.  Here's what they have to say about their movie, "Disneynature, in its ongoing quest to bring the natural world to the big screen as never before, presents its most ambitious project to date, taking moviegoers on a grand journey into the wilds of China. “Born In China” follows the adventures of three animal families — the majestic panda, the savvy golden monkey and the elusive snow leopard.

Featuring stunning imagery, the film navigates the vast terrain—from the frigid mountains to the heart of the bamboo forest—on the wings of a red-crowned crane, showcasing remarkably intimate family moments captured on film for the first time ever.

See Born in China opening week and Disneynature will make a donation in your honor to World Wildlife Fund to benefit wild pandas and snow leopards."

Now that sounds like a movie you can take your entire family to!

3.  Starbuck Unicorn Frappacino
Okay, you've probably already seen this, but Starbuck's has a special Unicorn Frappacino available until Sunday, April 23.  This drink offers you flavor-changing, color-changing magic.  It starts off sweet and fruity and then, right as you are sucking on the straw, changes to a pleasantly sour taste.  I can't really imagine what "pleasantly sour" tastes like, but I believe I'll pass.  Have you had one?

4.  Free HBO and Cinemax Weekend on AT&T
Do you have AT&T as your cable provider?  If so, you might want to know from April 21 to April 24 they are offering a free preview of HBO and Cinemax.  Score!!  I'm really hoping that Pretty Little Lies will be available.  It's supposed to be a bit rainy this weekend.  Perfect to catch a movie (or two) on HBO.

5.  So true...
Bahaha funny cause it's true bless their little hearts:

Have a great weekend!  If things go as planned, I will have a very clean closet and lots to donate to the American Red Cross when they stop by my house for their pick up next weekend.  See you next week!

Thinking Out Loud Thursday - April 20, 2017

Welcome to Thinking Out Loud Thursday!  I, for one, am shocked that it's Thursday already.  Thanks for popping in to see what I'm thinking out loud about today.  Please link up below and share what's on your mind.

Spring is officially here and in St. Louis we have been having some gorgeous weather.  I think we can safely put away the winter wool!  We store our off-season clothes in rubber tubs in our basement and I had Eric drag them upstairs last weekend.  Still haven't touched them, but at least they are in our bedroom and ready for my attention.

I added a couple items to my wardrobe from Old Navy and love them so much I thought I'd share their sale with you today.  These versatile sweaters are perfect to wear with a skirt to the office or with jeans on the weekend.  Click HERE to check them out.  Is it bad that I ordered one in every color??

While you're on the Old Navy website, check out this beauty.  It's on sale for only $4.99!!  Tell me that wouldn't make an excellent addition to your jewelry case.

I couldn't resist this little dress.  Casual and fun.  And on sale for under $20!!  Click HERE to see it.

I have pledged to myself that if I add something to my closet, something else has to go, so I scheduled the American Red Cross to stop by my house later this month for a pick up.  Love that they come right to your door and get your items!  If you are interested in scheduling a pickup, visit them HERE and click on Schedule Your Pickup located in the upper right side of the page.  Your donation is tax deductible and they will leave you a form at the time of pickup.

Weekending - April 14, 2017

Happy Monday after Easter!  Anyone else having a hard time thinking about going to work after the holiday?  We had a very nice few days and, I have to admit, the long to-do list I left work on Thursday night with is still over half full.  The weekend took on a life of its' own and I kind of just went with it.  I know I'll probably pay the price this week, but that's okay.  Sometimes you just need a few days completed off!

Thursday night on my way home I got a few things done and felt like it was a great start to a productive weekend.  Eric's order from Old Navy that didn't fit was returned, my car got a bath and I popped in the Honey Baked Ham store for our Easter ham with not a single other person in line in front of me.  Score!

Friday morning we woke to the sun shining and the birds singing.  It was a great morning for a walk and Eric and I took full advantage of it.  When we returned home, he had to get ready for work and I wanted to sit on the patio for a bit in the sun.  Well, a bit turned into several hours of glorious time.  I opened the computed to monitor my work email and between answering the dings I started reading The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman.  It felt good to actually hold a book in my hands.  It has been ages since I read a book not on my Kindle.  If you are looking for beach reads, I would recommend adding this one of your list.

This book was so intriguing I actually finished it over the weekend.  That's a real accomplishment for me because usually a book takes several weeks!  Here's what Goodreads has to say about it ~

Sussex, England. A middle-aged man returns to his childhood home to attend a funeral. Although the house he lived in is long gone, he is drawn to the farm at the end of the road, where, when he was seven, he encountered a most remarkable girl, Lettie Hempstock, and her mother and grandmother. He hasn't thought of Lettie in decades, and yet as he sits by the pond (a pond that she'd claimed was an ocean) behind the ramshackle old farmhouse, the unremembered past comes flooding back. And it is a past too strange, too frightening, too dangerous to have happened to anyone, let alone a small boy.

Forty years earlier, a man committed suicide in a stolen car at this farm at the end of the road. Like a fuse on a firework, his death lit a touchpaper and resonated in unimaginable ways. The darkness was unleashed, something scary and thoroughly incomprehensible to a little boy. And Lettie—magical, comforting, wise beyond her years—promised to protect him, no matter what.

A groundbreaking work from a master, The Ocean at the End of the Lane is told with a rare understanding of all that makes us human, and shows the power of stories to reveal and shelter us from the darkness inside and out. It is a stirring, terrifying, and elegiac fable as delicate as a butterfly's wing and as menacing as a knife in the dark.

Friday night after church we met some friends at a wine bar to listen to Brad Noe.  Love his music and he just released his first CD of originals.  He plays a mean guitar and if you close your eyes on his Pearl Jam songs you can definitely hear bits of Eddie Vedder.   Hope he makes it big and I can say I remember him when.

Saturday was another glorious day.  I had to run in to work for a very short time then Eric and I caught a movie before he had to go to work.  I let him pick the movie and he did good.  We watched Going In Style.  Fun flick!  I would recommend seeing it.

When the mail was delivered, I noticed the mailman slipping a package in my box.  As fast as my feet could carry me I went to the mailbox to check it out.  It was my Birchbox!!  I swear I heard angels singing when I pulled down the mailbox door.  There was a clay mask sample that I decided to try.  Loved it!

The rest of the evening should have been spent getting ready for Easter lunch the next day, but it wasn't.  I decided the third season of Grace and Frankie really needed my attention so I binge watched 8 episodes before Eric got home from work.  Finished the rest of the season on Sunday night.  Now it looks like I'll have to wait until the Spring of 2018 for Season 4's release.  So sad we have to wait that long!

Sunday I had to get up extra early to make up for all my laziness to prep for Easter lunch.  We went to early church, then had to grab a quick lunch before going to the St. Louis Blues game.  Thank you Blues for playing a great game on Sunday and giving the fans a win!

Image may contain: 4 people, people smiling, people standing

When we returned home from the game, we cleaned up and got somewhat ready to start the week before collapsing in bed (to finished season 3 of Grace and Frankie).  What a fun weekend!

How was your Easter?  And how long do you think you can leave your Easter decorations up?!?  I don't think I'll have time to take mine down this week!

Five on Friday - April 14, 2017

Oh my - am I excited about this day!  Good Friday is a holiday at my work so I can spend the day doing the stuff I typically don't get to do at home during the week.  Can't beat that!  First thing I'm going to do today is read some of my favorite blogs.

Speaking of favorite things, here's my five for this week ~

1.  Senior Pass for National Parks
Are you or do you know someone who is 62 years old?  If so, you should STRONGLY encourage them to get their Senior Pass from the National Park Service as soon as possible.  The Senior Pass currently is only $10 for a lifetime pass.  The cost is increasing to $80 this year.  What can you do with a Senior Pass?  You can get into more than 2,000 recreation sites managed by five Federal agencies for your lifetime.  The Senior Pass admits the pass owner and up to 3 passengers in a non-commercial vehicle free entrance into some of the most beautiful spots in the world.  Check out their website HERE for all the details.  But don't wait too long - $10 is a lot less than the $80 you'll have to pay when the price goes up!

2.  Going In Style
Every Monday, a friend of mine at work and I chat about what movies we saw over the weekend.  Last week he saw Going In Style and said it was really cute.  I'm definitely adding it to my want to see list.  Here's what Rotten Tomatoes has to say about it, "Oscar winners Morgan Freeman ("Million Dollar Baby"), Michael Caine ("The Cider House Rules," "Hannah and Her Sisters") and Alan Arkin ("Little Miss Sunshine") team up as lifelong buddies Willie, Joe and Al, who decide to buck retirement and step off the straight-and-narrow for the first time in their lives when their pension fund becomes a corporate casualty, in director Zach Braff's comedy "Going in Style." Desperate to pay the bills and come through for their loved ones, the three risk it all by embarking on a daring bid to knock off the very bank that absconded with their money."

3.  Waterproof Garden Gloves with Fingertip Claws
Spring is here and the height of gardening season will be here very soon.  These gloves look like they would be wonderful for any gardener out there!  What a unique Mother's Day gift!  These allow you to plant and dig without hand tools.  Amazing!  Interested in some?  Click HERE to check them out.

We read this book a while back in book club and, man, it's interesting.  Have you read it?  Later this month HBO is featuring the movie and guess who's starring in it - Oprah Winfrey.  HBO says this, "Oprah Winfrey and Rose Byrne star in this adaptation of Rebecca Skloot’s critically acclaimed, bestselling nonfiction book of the same name. Told through the eyes of Henrietta Lacks’ daughter, Deborah Lacks, the film chronicles her search, along with journalist Rebecca Skloot (Byrne), to learn about the mother she never knew and understand how the unauthorized harvesting of Lacks' cancerous cells in 1951 led to unprecedented medical breakthroughs, changing countless lives and the face of medicine forever."  The book was intriguing, but I thought by the end it got a little stale.  It's worth a read though.  It's available on Amazon HERE.

5.  Chat with my clothes...
My swimsuit told me to go to the gym. But my sweatpants were like, nah girl, you're good. Diet and Fitness Humor, Gym Memes, Fit, Running, Jogging, Cardio, Fitbit, Exercise, Workout, Weight Loss, Fat, Active, Sports, Sweat, Nutrition
Hope you have a very special Easter.  After church, Eric and I will be going to the St. Louis Blues hockey game.  What's on your agenda for the day?  Whatever it is, enjoy your Easter and see you back next week.

Thinking Out Loud Thursday - April 13, 2017

Hello friends!  Welcome to Thinking Out Loud Thursday.  Hope you link up below and share what you're thinking out loud about today.

True confession:  This post almost didn't happen.  I'm off work this Friday thanks to the holiday so that means five days of work needs to be completed in four.  Sometimes real life just gets in the way of the fun stuff (like blogging), but thanks to the St. Louis Blues having a late televised hockey game I'm up later than normal and thought I'd multi task while watching the game.  Please excuse any typos!

I've been doing a lot of thinking about 3,500.  Do you know why I've been thinking about 3,500?  It's not the amount we won in the lottery (I wish!) or the number of new blog followers I got this week (again, I wish!).  It's roughly the number of calories in a pound.

One of my goals this year was to drop a little weight.  Was this one of your goals too?  So I've been thinking a lot about 3,500 because to loose a pound of weight, you roughly have to either eat 3,500 calories less or burn 3,500 calories more in exercising.  DISCLAIMER:  I am NOT a dietitian, physician or any other type of "ian".  I'm just a chubby girl trying to drop a few pounds, so my comments and methods are probably not approved by anyone official.

Since exercising isn't that fun for me and I love to eat, finding a way to make the balance between the two be -3,500 can be a true pain in the butt challenge!  Solution:  My new Fitbit Charger 2 HR!  I don't like it - I LOVE it!

This baby gives me a little reminder every hour if I haven't taken my goal number of steps for that period.  It also tells me how many calories I've burned in a day, how many flights of stairs I taken, how many minutes of activity I've done, plus more.  See why I love it!  If you're interested in one, click HERE to check it out.  I loved mine so much, I got Eric one too.  Now we work together to get our goal number of steps per day and compare our activity minutes.  Honestly, it's been kind of fun challenging each other to get in our steps.

Because the black band really wasn't my favorite thing, I found a couple bands on Amazon that were excellent replacements.  Here's the ones I have ~

I might resemble these ~

Lol pretty much

All in all, this gadget has helped me exercise more and increase my activity.  Yes, I love it.  Now am just wondering why it took me so long to hop on the Fitbit bandwagon.

What are you thinking about today?  Would love to hear from you!

Five on Friday - April 7, 2017

Hey, hey -- Friday is HERE! It's been one heck of a week and I'm so excited the weekend is here! My friend, Linda, and her daughter, Kelsey are visiting and we are going to work on some graduation things for her. I love weekends when I get to craft with friends. It's going to be a great few days!

Want to see my five for this week? Here you go ~

1. Gifted
I have been excited about this movie since the first time I saw the preview. It's opening this coming Wednesday. Anyone up for a mid-week date?!? Here's the movie info from Rotten Tomatoes, "Frank Adler (Chris Evans) is a single man raising a child prodigy - his spirited young niece Mary (Mckenna Grace) - in a coastal town in Florida. Frank's plans for a normal school life for Mary are foiled when the seven-year-old's mathematical abilities come to the attention of Frank's formidable mother Evelyn (Lindsay Duncan) whose plans for her granddaughter threaten to separate Frank and Mary. Octavia Spencer plays Roberta, Frank and Mary's landlady and best friend. Jenny Slate is Mary's teacher, Bonnie, a young woman whose concern for her student develops into a connection with her uncle as well."

2. All by Myself, Alone: A Novel
Are you a fan of Mary Higgins Clark? Her newest book was released this week. Check it out HERE. The "Queen of Suspense" chose to write about a glamorous cruise on a luxurious ocean liner that turns deadly in this latest mystery. Sounds like a pretty good book to have on your Kindle or in your library.

3. PBJ Smoothie Stick
A few months ago I got a PBJ Smoothie Stick in my Birchbox. Fell immediately in love with it! This super smooth stick is made with almond butter and goji berry. Per Birchbox, "The hydrating formula, rich in vitamin E, antioxidants, and beta-carotene, moisturizes and protects, so lips feel, look, and taste sweet all day long."  This little stick glides on so smoothly and has great staying power.  I just might have to get it in every color it comes in.  It's available HERE and HERE.

4.  National Zoo Lover's Day
April 8 is National Zoo Lover's Day and Eric and I are definitely a zoo-loving couple.  It might help that we have an absolutely phenomenal zoo here in St. Louis.  As a matter of fact, the St. Louis Zoo was just voted No. 1 in the nation in USA Today 10 Best Readers’ Choice Awards contest, which launched in early March.  If you have ever been to the St. Louis Zoo you can totally understand how it won.  If you are ever in the area, a trip to the zoo should definitely be on your agenda.  Oh, and something else great about our zoo - there's no charge to get in.  That's right, it's FREE!

5.  My new goal....

Have a great weekend!  We are supposed to have wonderful weather here, which will make the weekend even better.  Now I'm off to began getting this weekend started!
