I'm going to start my recap on Thursday because we got surprised with tickets to the St. Louis Blues vs. Chicago Blackhawks preseason hockey game on Thursday night. Our son, Ian, went with me and Eric. We love hockey -- and we love it even more when our Blues win. We saw a 5-2 win on Thursday!
Friday was a crazy busy day at work. I didn't get out to start the evening until 7:30 pm. That makes for a short evening! But Eric and I ran as fast as we could to the new Ikea store that just opened in St. Louis on Wednesday. I was dying to go and Eric happily obliged. The days of having to go to Kansas City or Chicago to visit an Ikea are OVER!! Woot Woot!
Saturday morning I spent at the office but the afternoon was set aside for some car shopping. I'm driving a 10-year-old car with 174,000 miles. It's time. A new car needs to be in my immediate future and I think we found a winner. I'm still testing drive an Acura from Frank Leta. So far so good. Best sales move of the year is to let you just drive away and keep the car a few days. I've fallen in love and honestly don't think you could pry the keys to this car out of my hands. We'll see what happens on Tuesday when I have to take it back. Wish me luck!
I did get out of the car long enough to have a date night on Saturday night. Eric and I grabbed a quick dinner at TGI Fridays then headed to see The Martian. Did you see it? Lots of people did! Eric and I both rated it "liked plus". Not really LOVE it, but more than liked it. Ian and Kayla loved it. I would recommend it, but for me I don't feel the need to see it over and over. I would be shocked if Matt Damon doesn't get a Best Actor nod.
Sunday literally went by in a flash of an eye. I had book club at noon. (By the way, three out of four of us at book club saw The Martian. Tally - 2 loves and my liked plus.) I just love my book club! We meet the first Sunday of the month for an hour and a half. A good hour is spent just on catching up and chatting about all kinds of fun stuff. Then the last half hour we summarize all the books we've read. This particular Sunday I had two lunch dates -- book club at Houlihan's and then I met Ian and Kayla at Olive Garden to do a little catching up with them. Needless to say, we ate a late dinner because I was pretty full from the day!
I started reading After You by Jojo Moyes on Sunday morning. Guys, so far it's as good Me Before You. Sunday afternoon (after both my lunches) I sat on the porch and did some reading. Could barely tear myself away from the book to do anything else!

Why do weekends always fly by? Looks like you had a full one. The hubs and I had a date night this weekend, too, before our state was flooded and declared a state of emergency (SC). Because of the floods, we stayed home on Sunday and caught up on some much-needed rest.
ReplyDeleteI wanted to see the Martian but we saw Everest instead. That's awesome you have an ikea now, that place is great!
ReplyDeleteI definitely need to read that book. I was worried it wouldn't be as good!!! That is a beautiful car!
ReplyDeleteI'm happy to hear you have an IKEA near you now! I am obsessed with that store every time we move ha
ReplyDeleteWe saw The Martian this weekend, too. My husband and I both read the book, and the movie, while of course it left a lot out, it was a pretty good representation. I though the same thing about Matt Damon and an Oscar nod as well.
ReplyDeleteHappy that you got to see my beloved Blackhawks on the ice. I bet we just let your Blues win since it was a pre season game, ha ha. Congrats on getting an IKEA near you...be sure to indulge in those delish meatballs!
ReplyDeleteI grew up in St. Louis and I remember driving to Chicago to visit Ikea! :) When I moved to Minneapolis, I was overjoyed to have one just 20 minutes away! I can't wait to see the Martian... I LOVE Matt Damon.
ReplyDeleteSaw the Martian last week, loved it!
ReplyDeleteMade it to Ikea on Sunday. Got a few ideas for when the hype dies down (probably not til the new year)
Oh and GO BLUES!
Sounds like you had a great weekend. I'm from Chicago so.....GO BLACKHAWKS (I've been to three Blackhawks Stanley Cup parades, and NO ONE does it like my Hawks but even when they lose, seeing hockey in person so much fun!) <3
ReplyDeleteWeekends do tend to fly by all too quickly, don't they?! I'm glad you had a great weekend. I love that Minion quote!
ReplyDeleteI love Ikea, I could get lost in there for hours!! What an amazing full weekend you guys had!
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you had a great weekend!! My hubby and I celebrated our 7 year anniversary with a getaway :). It was nice to have a weekend with just the two of us.
ReplyDeleteSounds like you had a very busy weekend. Oh, and go Blues! I'm a St Louis girl living in the south now and I can't wait to get back up there and check out Ikea. It is on my list of things to do.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh! I just finished reading the Martian! Isn't it a great read? I will be seeing the movie this Friday! I can not wait.
ReplyDeleteGoing to need to pick up that book if you like it as much as me before you!!

I have my request in at the library for After You. I love all her books so can't wait to get my hands on it. Your son and you, looks like so much fun. I haven't seen that movie. Not much of a movie goer, I usually wait till they come On Demand then watch it at home. My hubs would like it I bet.
ReplyDeleteIt does seem that we get far more Mondays than any other day of the week doesn't it?! I can't wait to go see the Martian - haven't heard anything bad about it yet!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun weekend! Weekends sure don't last long enough though. Ours was good too despite the fact that 3 out of 4 of us ended up with a stomach virus!
ReplyDeleteYou had a fantastic, busy weekend! I commend you for having the guts to go to IKEA on a weekend. I did that once... yikes. It's so much easier on a weeknight (and those Swedish Meatballs for supper aren't half bad, either). And hooray hockey season! (I'm a Bruins fan. I know, forgive me). Here via #authenticbloggers. Have a fantastic week! http://measi.net/measiblog/2015/10/05/letters-to-comfort/
ReplyDeleteThat's a jam packed weekend! Sounds fun. I can't wait to see the Martian!!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see the movie! But want to read the book first! And itsn't it just simply the best when an Ikea opens up near you?
ReplyDeleteWow that is one fun crazy weekend. Ikea alone is a jam packed day. I love Ikea but I need to devote hours just to wander and get inspired. I am so excited to see The Martian. This is one of the movies I have to see on the big screen.
ReplyDeleteI am a Chicagoan so not sure about your hockey choices but cool that you got to go to a game. I want to see that movie the Martian as well!
ReplyDeleteI agree that the weekends go by way too fast!! Can't wait to hear what happens with the car! Thanks for linking up again this week!
