Thinking Out Loud Thursday - January 14, 2016

Welcome to Thinking Out Loud Thursday!  Glad you joined me and Vanessa from X-tremely V for this fun little linkup and to see what we’re thinking out loud about today.

Here I am on Wednesday evening writing this post and I'm really thinking about that ginormous lottery jackpot.  Are you thinking about it too?!?  I have to admit, my mind wondered to what I would do if I matched all six numbers more than a few times today.  I wish I had been in the Ellen Show's audience today -- she gave each of them a free lottery ticket.  But for me, being in her audience would have been like winning a lottery!

Talk around the water cooler this week has tended to gravitate to the question what would you do if you won the lottery.  I began thinking about how I would take my friend Linda to a U2 concert in an extravagant city, plan an outlandish 50th birthday party with Justin Timberlake as the entertainer for my friend Tracy and cart my entire family to Disney World for a week of pure bliss.  (Don't get excited guys, we didn't match a single number so none of these things will be happening.)

Then I started thinking about how different the answer would be if you asked various people what they would do with the money.  I saw the below message pop up on my Facebook feed and it really stopped me in my tracks.  To some people, it would be like winning the lottery if they just had a meal to feed their children.

So many of us have already won the lottery in our lives just by being so blessed with what we have!  Today I'm going to try being thankful for what is in my life and also try very hard to find ways to make other feel blessed too!  It doesn't take a billion dollars to have the things that are truly important in life.

Now it's your turn - tell us what you're thinking out loud about today!  Feel free to link your favorite post(s) and share what you're up to.  We'd love to hear from you!

  1. Thanks for hosting Penny. I love the message Steve presents here. I don't play the lottery. Never have. Yet his words are so true and how much time people spend wondering what they would do if they had tons more money is a mystery to me. Don't get me wrong, who doesn't want a little bit extra to help out or put away to help out when the need arises, but so much everyone can do in a small way to help others is so much more important than standing in a line for hours to "think" you might win. Well, that is what I'm thinking out loud this Thursday. I do like though, that you thought of your friend and blessing her with what obviously is a special love in her life...U2, I just might stand in line for them. Blessings friend.

  2. So, so, SO agree with your point about the lottery! We might not can help them all but to the one we did help, we were all they needed at that time.

  3. I didn't play the lottery, although Keith did with his work and he said if they won, even a small amount, he wasn't going to go to work because that's what winners do, ha!

  5. I sat down today and paid my bills. All of them. At the end, I looked at the small amount left and thought about the fact that some people don't even have enough to pay all their bills by the end of the month. Yet, all my bills are paid with a few dollars (exactly) to spare. Blessed doesn't even begin to describe it!

  6. When I started reading the post I was like yup I wanted to win big too and then I saw the pictures regarding you don't have to win the lottery to be generous. At that moment I thought she is so so right and it is nice to reminded of these things.

  8. Wow! That quote was powerful and it definitely has me thinking about the price of kindness and generosity. The truth is we really need much to give. And you're right: being thankful for what we have and spreading some joy is just as great (if not more) than winning that cash prize. Thanks for sharing on #SHINEbloghop this week, Penny! Always lovely to see you join us.
