Weekending - April 8, 2016

Yes -- it's Tuesday night and I'm just now doing my weekend wrap up post.  I'm trying very hard not to have heart palpitations because I'm running so late in getting this posted.  The thought of just skipping it came to mind, but we did some fun stuff that I really do want to share so here goes....

Last Thursday night four of us from work that plan meetings and our +1's attended a spectacular evening at the Ameristar Casino and Resort in St. Charles, Missouri.  We were the lucky recipients of them showing off their hospitality and culinary skills.  And, boy, do they have skills!!

Taking off my work hat and looking at this location from purely a personal standpoint, it would be a fantastic location to have a girls weekend or staycation if you live in the St. Louis area.  All the hotel rooms are suites with a sunken living room.  The bathroom had a double sink and the bed was oh so comfortable.  There is a spa on site and an indoor/outdoor pool that I do believe I could lay next to for hours working on my tan and reading.  Did I mention they also have complimentary valet parking?!?

The food was -- well, so so so scrumptious!  The chef fed us so many fabulous foods.  By the time dessert hit the table we were over the top full.  But who can say no to desserts that look this yummy?!?

Just a short distance away (like walking distance if you're not in heels) is historic St. Charles where you can shop your heart out in their 125 one-of-a-kind shops.  Head the opposite direction from the hotel and you would find yourself outside an AMC theater.  Great location for a fun getaway!

Friday night we took it easy and rested up for the weekend ahead.  Saturday we did chores and got ready for Ian and Kayla to come over for dinner and to watch the Blues hockey game.  (Don't ask - the Blues lost 5-1.  So sad.)  We did take a break in the afternoon and saw My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2.  It was cute.  I'm not going to lie, it would be a great movie to watch after it comes out on video.  Many of the adorable little jokes from the first movie was reintroduced.  Still cute, but not as cute as when I heard them in the first movie.

Highlight -- look who sold me my ticket!

Sunday was girls day out with Sherri, Tracy, and Carol.  We were celebrating Carol's birthday and decided to head to The Little Black Dress exhibit at the Missouri History Museum.  The plan was to leave around lunchtime, see the exhibit then head to a restaurant on St. Louis' Top 100 Restaurant list.  I whipped up these cute little snack bags to hold us over for the main course.

The full name is The Little Black Dress From Mourning to Night.  Reading through the history of women wearing black dresses during the mourning period was interesting.  They had some great dresses on display.  Got to love the little black dress!

After seeing the exhibit and browsing through the gift shop, it was on to the restaurant.  We headed to Katie's Pizza and Pasta.  Yum!  We sipped on watermelon cocktails, nibbled on apps and pizza and finished the meal off with a dessert of donuts.  Fun times!

And just like that, the weekend was over.  Man, it seems like Saturday and Sunday have fewer hours than Monday through Friday.

Monday was a big day in St. Louis.  I'll be chatting about it on Thursday in my Thinking Out Loud post.  Don't forget to stop by and link up!
