Weekending - September 11, 2020

Happy Monday!  This weekend was so peaceful and easy.  I really hated to see it come to an end.  But the good news is we are only a few days away from another one!  And it ended with a gorgeous sunset!

Let's rewind and see how it went down ~

Friday night Eric and I decided to grab some curbside to go.  I guess half the county decided to do the same thing because we had an hour and a half wait for our food at Texas Roadhouse!  So by the time we ate, we were starving.  The food was delicious, so it ended up being worth the wait.  We started a new series from Netflix called Away and watched an episode while we scarfed down our late dinner.  Have you watched Away?  Hillary Swank and Josh Charles (from A Good Wife) star in this 10 episode drama.  Hillary plays Emma Green, a US astronaut, who embarks on a year-long mission to Mars with an international space crew. She leaves behind her husband and daughter.  Drama ensues.  We are only about three episodes in and are fighting the urge to just binge the entire session in one sitting.

Saturday morning was overcast and gray outside.  I decided it would be a great time to catch up on some emails and lounge in bed.  I fixed myself a cup of tea and lit a candle.  It was feeling a bit like fall so I celebrated the change of season by busting out my favorite fall scent - the vanilla bean, caramel, biscotti from Wood Wick.

Eric worked most of the day and when he got home we joined our neighbors for an early dinner on the patio at Peel Wood Fired Pizza.  It felt so nice to relax with friends and enjoy some laughs.

Sunday was spent doing some things around the house.  Eric took on the hard task of weeding the garden.  It has been a while so that was quite the job!  I supervised from my chair while sitting in the sun and reading a book.

In the afternoon I had a Zoom book club chat with some friends from Kansas City.  We had read This Is How It Always Is by Laurie Frankel.  Good book!  Here's the summary from Amazon ~
This is how a family keeps a secret…and how that secret ends up keeping them.
This is how a family lives happily ever after…until happily ever after becomes complicated.
This is how children change…and then change the world.
This is Claude. He’s five years old, the youngest of five brothers, and loves peanut butter sandwiches. He also loves wearing a dress, and dreams of being a princess.
When he grows up, Claude says, he wants to be a girl.
Rosie and Penn want Claude to be whoever Claude wants to be. They’re just not sure they’re ready to share that with the world. Soon the entire family is keeping Claude’s secret. Until one day it explodes.
Laurie Frankel's This Is How It Always Is is a novel about revelations, transformations, fairy tales, and family. And it’s about the ways this is how it always is: Change is always hard and miraculous and hard again, parenting is always a leap into the unknown with crossed fingers and full hearts, children grow but not always according to plan. And families with secrets don’t get to keep them forever.

The three-tier tray finally got changed in the kitchen.  I'm embarrassed to say it still had the 4th of July decorations on it.  I played it off like I was leaving it that way on purpose until Labor Day.  Well, Labor Day is done and gone so it was definitely time for a change!

We wrapped up the weekend by having dinner with our son and daughter-in-law.  It was a good weekend!  Hope yours was also!

  1. I've been wanting to watch Away; it does look good from what little bit I've seen.

  3. We just started Away. Trying hard to temper ourselves, too. Lovely sunset photo. Glad you had such a pleasant weekend. We had dinner at Texas Roadhouse a few weeks ago and they were doing a land office business but our drinks were quick and our food almost as quick.

  4. I love your use of sunflowers, and the adorable mushroom (toadstool?) for your fall decor. A refreshing change from pumpkin everything!
