Thinking Out Loud Thursday - January 10, 2019

Hey there!  Welcome to Thinking Out Loud Thursday!  Thursdays are for thinking out loud and I invite you to link up below and share what you are thinking out loud about today.

Here we are - already 10 days into a brand new year.  I have to admit, my year was off to a lackluster start.  I got sick over New Year's, so I spent the first couple days just trying to recover.  Just because the calendar had turned over a new month, my motivation hadn't really picked up any momentum.  Things I had hoped to organize and clean between Christmas and New Year's didn't happen and my poor bedroom became the dumping ground for all kinds of clutter.

Last night proved to be the jump start to making 2019 the great year I had hoped it would be.  I attended the encore performance of Rachel Hollis's movie Made for More.

Rachel is the author is the best seller book Girl, Wash Your Face.  I read it last fall and fell in love with Rachel, the book and her witty sense of humor.  She tells it like it is and I have completely drank her Kool-Aid.  She would be my gal if I could invite one person to dinner.

Made for More is a 90-minute documentary which takes a close look inside the two-day RISE event Rachel created and a bonus 30 minute coaching session.  Yes, it might be said that the movie is just one big advertisement for the RISE conference -- but regardless, I found it to be as motivating as the book and left me wanting more.  So much more that the minute I got home, I visited the website to see where and when the next RISE event was being held.  One's coming to Minneapolis in June!  Paging down I realized that every ticket from the $1800 VIP tickets to the $200 Terrace tickets were sold.  Now I'm just on a mission to attend one of these events.  Rachel -- if you're read this please come to St. Louis!

She also did a fantastic sales job on her new book that will be coming out in March, Girl Stop Apologizing.  (Yes, I'm pre-ordered!)  Here's Amazon's summary ~
Rachel Hollis has seen it too often: women not living into their full potential. They feel a tugging on their hearts for something more, but they’re afraid of embarrassment, of falling short of perfection, of not being enough.
In Girl, Stop Apologizing, #1 New York Times bestselling author and founder of a multimillion-dollar media company, Rachel Hollis sounds a wake-up call. She knows that many women have been taught to define themselves in light of other people—whether as wife, mother, daughter, or employee—instead of learning how to own who they are and what they want. With a challenge to women everywhere to stop talking themselves out of their dreams, Hollis identifies the excuses to let go of, the behaviors to adopt, and the skills to acquire on the path to growth, confidence, and believing in yourself.
                           Girl, Stop Apologizing: A Shame-Free Plan for Embracing and Achieving Your Goals by [Hollis, Rachel]

One of the things I love about reading or listening to Rachel is her drive to have women be more accepting of ourselves and of each other.  She pushes you to be your best self AND support others who are trying to do the same.  Her no excuse attitude drives me to reach higher and dream bigger.  Just the boost I needed to start 2019!

The coaching session alone at the end of the movie was worth the price of admission.  Rachel covered five areas to becoming the best you and you better believe I'm going to be working on all five things!  Her five were ~

                                       * Physical Environment
                                       * Personal Environment
                                       * Community
                                       * Morning Routine
                                       * Habits

Over the course of the next five weeks, I'm going to do a deeper dive into each one during my Thursday Thinking Out Loud post.  So next Thursday will be physical environment.  Rachel spoke to how your physical environment can help motivate you and if your physical space is a mess, you might have a hard time not being a mess right along with it.

Hope you join along and add your thoughts each week.  Let's all work together to make 2019 our best year yet!

Now it's your turn - what are you thinking out loud about today?  Link up and join share!

Let's Make an Emergency Office Box

My friend's daughter graduated from college this year and got a fabulous job working for an accounting firm.  For Christmas, I wanted to give her something she could use at the office.  What I created was an Office Emergency Box that is stuffed full of items for those unusual circumstances that could arise during her workday.  Let's look inside ~

Here's What You Need
Box (I used one from Michael's that measured 9-1/4" x 9-3/4" x 3-1/4")
2 Birthday Cards
Box of Birthday Candles
Pack of Matches
Screw Driver Set
Eye Glass Repair Kit
First Aid Kit
Cotton Swabs
Alcohol Swabs
Toothbrush
Toothpaste
Gum
Dental Floss
Dental Picks
Bobby Pins
Hair Elastics
Deodorant
Pantliners
Safety Pins
Sewing Kit
Lint Roller
Shout Wipes
Manicure Kit (Scissors, Nail Clippers, Tweezers)
Mirror
Nail File

Here's What You Do
Before I started gather items, I thought long and hard about things I've needed at work or people have asked me if I had at my desk.  Here's some examples ~
Have you ever gotten to work and then realized it was someone's birthday and you forgot the card.  No worries -- grab one out of your emergency box.
The boss wants to see you right after you just had the most garlicy Caesar salad for lunch.  You got this -- brush your teeth using the toothbrush and toothpaste out of your box.
Your supervisor looses a button off the front of her shirt.  Save the day and make all kinds of brownie points by whipping out your sewing kit.
Hang nail driving you crazy.  Clip it off with the nail clippers.
Loose the screw out of your reading glasses.  No sweat - you've got an eye glass repair kit inside your magic emergency box.

Did you new shoes rub a huge blister on your heel and you can barely walk?  Fix it up with a bandaid!

Are you starting to see just how useful this emergency box can be?  This is the perfect gift for so many people!  Know someone who would love one?  Most of the items came from the Dollar Store.  I did snag the eye glass repair kit from Walgreen's and the first aid kit from Target.

As much as I hope no one needs to dip in the box for supplies, it's great to know they are there just in case!

Five on Friday - January 4, 2019

Oh my goodness -- can you believe it's Friday already?!?  I had to work from Wednesday to today and I'm still trying to figure out what day it is!  But it is Friday and that means it's time for the first Five on Friday of the year ~

1.  National Missouri Day
Being from the great state of Missouri, I think it's only fitting that I share today is National Missouri Day.  If you're starting to think about your family vacay for this summer, put Missouri - and more specifically St. Louis - on your list of places to consider.  In St. Louis, you could catch a baseball game at Busch Stadium, wonder around one of the best zoos in the world and spend a day at Six Days going on as many thrill rides as your heart desires.  And then there's the Gateway Arch!  Ride the tram to the top for a spectacular view of the entire city.  There's the City Museum, History Museum, Science Center, Planetarium -- the list goes on and on.  Seriously, check it out.  It's a great place to visit!

National Missouri Day - January 4

2.  Qwixx
So over New Year's my friend TW introduced us to a new game.  Immediately upon getting home I ordered it!  You can play this game with 2-8 players and it's for ages 8 and over.  What I particularly loved about this game is you can play your board on each person's turn.  It keeps you engaged, but it isn't so hard that you can't play and have a nice conversation at the same time.  If you're looking for a new game to play on these cold winter days, Qwixx would be a great addition to your game closet!  Click HERE to check it out.
3.  Made for More
How many of you have read Rachel Hollis's book Girl Wash Your Face?  (OK - if the answer was no, STOP EVERYTHING, order the book by clicking HERE, and start reading it!)  Rachel has such a positive message and after reading her book it truly inspired me.  Rachel's Made for More is running at a variety of theaters on Wednesday, January 9 only.  Here's the synoposis:
Returning to cinemas for a special encore presentation, Rachel Hollis presents: Made for More comes to cinemas nationwide January 2 and 9, featuring an all-new, exclusive coaching session. An uplifting mix of encouragement, community, laughs and kick-you-in-the-rear motivation that will have you ready to reach for more? Mama of four, CCO/founder of The Hollis Company and The Chic Site, Rachel Hollis has been called “Tina Fey meets Tony Robbins for women” and is taking audiences on an inside look at chasing the biggest of dreams. Rachel’s fierce spirit and bold belief that she’s here to change the world will inspire you to believe you can do the same – believing you’re enough and will reignite those dreams you’ve been carrying around in your heart for years. Whether you’ve been an OG since day one or this is your first time joining the tribe, this event will light a fire in your heart.

Every time I get together with my friends I learn something new and excited.  On cookie day, I learned from my Kansas City friends that The Pioneer Woman has a magazine.  A MAGAZINE!!  Who knew!?!  I can't wait to get my hands on one of these and order my very own subscription.  Would you like to have a subscription also?  Click HERE to get one.  I can't wait to see what Ree has in her magazine pages.

5.  Goals for this year....

Thinking Out Loud Thursday - January 3, 2019

Happy New Year!  Welcome to the first Thinking Out Loud Thursday of 2019.  Today I'm thinking out loud about my 2019 goals.

Do you set goals for the year?  One of the reasons I love the start of the year is because it feels like a clean slate - a reset.  Some years I carry over goals and some years I start completely from scratch.  This year is a combination of the two.  Let's take a look ~

Be More Healthy
This may sound so cliche this time of year because millions of people are saying they want to lose weight and be more healthy.  Case in point - have you driven by a gym this week?  The parking lots are packed.  Revisit them in May and you'll see a whole different picture.  Well, I'm hoping this isn't just a passing phase for me.  Eric and I have fallen into some very rotten habits that need to be broken.  I haven't been cooking very healthy and we are spending far too much time on the couch brainlessly watching television.  Time for that to change!

Become More Financially Aware
I'm a spender.  Not something I'm extremely proud of, but I tend to "pick stuff up" just because it's on sale or I think I might need it in the future.  I have an entire basement full of things I've purchased just in case I might need it.  I'll buy gifts way ahead of time and forget I have them.  I'll buy books on a whim when I know I have 10 already on my Kindle that I haven't started.  You get the idea.  In 2019, my goal is to truly evaluate a purchase before just automatically clicking the check out button.

Send More Snail Mail
Who doesn't love opening the mail box to a card or letter?  I want to put a smile on more people's faces this year by sending more cards and letters.

Find a New Church
As much as I love the message we received at the church we were going to, I missed the people connection.  We just didn't feel like we were making many new friends or joining groups, so I want to try something new.  I think new churches are hard to find.  Wish us luck!

Plan a Girls Weekend
I love getting friends together and sharing a girls weekend.  What I love even more is planning a girls weekend at my house!  I know some of you think I'm crazy, but it's a passion of mine to have guests and organize fun things for us to do.  Hoping to make it happen in 2019.

Take a Photography Class
A few years ago I invested in a really good camera.  Right away I learned the bare basics, but there is so much more I want to learn!  A good class should help me and I'm on the look out for one to sign up for.

Get More Organized at Home
Oh my gosh -- if I added up all the time I lost looking for things because I couldn't find them in my house I bet I could read an extra book a week.  It might take me most of the year to get things back in order, but I want to systematically go through my house and organize the closets, drawers and cabinets.  Watch out Goodwill, I have a feeling you are going to be seeing a lot of me in 2019!

So there's a few things on my 2019 Goals list.  What are some things on your's?  Link up and share!
