Weekending - August 6, 2021

This weekend was nothing short of epic!  Here's the rewind ~

We spent Friday evening celebrating our daughter-in-law's 30th birthday at their house.  When it comes to daughters-in-law, we really hit the jackpot!  Kayla is a beautiful person inside and out and we are so lucky to have her in our family!

She had the cutest little helper (her nephew) opening her gifts!  Her sister had thirty thoughtful gifts for her, all with sweet notes.  We, too, did thirty gifts so she had quite the pile of presents!

Halfway through the unwrapping, we took an intermission break to enjoy her yummy cakes.  Such a fun evening celebrating her birthday!

Bright and early on Saturday we were up and out the door headed to my hometown for the annual Old Settlers Homecoming.  This is always a fun time filled with a parade, bingo, cake walk, and tons of games for the kids.

This year our niece, Nevaeh, was in the princess contest.  The day started with the parade.  She had an awesome antique car to ride in!

Our two nephews were in the parade too with their tractors they learned to drive this summer.  They were all smiles when they passed us!

The grand marshalls of the parade this year were the Lady Lions group - a group my mom has been a part of for decades.  Our family was well represented in the parade!

Following the parade, a friend of mine mentioned on Facebook that she didn't see a lot of people standing when the VFW color guard carried the American flag passed.  I was ashamed of myself for not remembering to do this.  Here's the etiquette:  As the flag passes in a parade, you should face the flag and place your right hand over your heart. Men and women in uniform should perform a military salute to the flag.  I'll definitely remember next time!

The afternoon was filled with fun!  Before we could get Nevaeh out of her parade clothes, she had to stop by the corn pit to play a bit.

The corn pit is always a huge hit with the kids.  It's consistently full of kids having a great time!

One of the competitions is the kids' tractor pull.  There were some strong kids participating, including our two nephews!

It won't be long before our littlest nephew is joining his big brother in the parade and tractor pull!

Five years ago these little ones were in the baby show.  Time sure flies by fast!  They are growing up way too quick.

Saturday evening was the princess contest.  Nevaeh has been practicing all summer for her big night.  She was just as cute as could be!

The whole family was there to cheer her on.  Six little girls competed for the title and they were all adorable!  We were all so proud when they announced her as this year's princess!

On Sunday we were in total relaxation mode.  Our neighbors invited us over to their pool and we soaked up the sun until the clouds rolled in in the afternoon.  We took in the last of the Olympics as we listened to the much-needed rain falling outside.

Hope you have a wonderful week ahead!  I'm meeting some friends I haven't seen much during the pandemic and I'm giddy with excitement to see them!  I'll also be meeting with a bride to talk details on her upcoming wedding.  So much fun ahead!  See you back here soon.

  1. I really enjoyed this post, Penny! Happy birthday to your daughter-in-law and congrats to your princess niece! Love the Flexible Flyer wagon your Mom was in. I saw a story about one on TV recently!
