Five on Friday - February 20, 2015

Friday is finally here.  Boy am I glad!  Sunday night is my Oscars party so I have a ton to do between now and then.  Thank goodness I have friends coming over tomorrow to help.  But before then, here's this week's Five on Friday.

1.  Apothic Crush
We tried a new wine on Valentine's Day -- and it was wonderful!  I'm a fan of Apothic wines and here's another one to add to my list of favorites.  Apothic Crush is another limited release and will be on shelves between February and April.  Per their website:  "The limited release blends Petite Sirah and Pinot Noir to create luscious aromas of caramel and chocolate, with a velvety smooth mouthfeel."  If you see a bottle, pick it up and give it a try.

2.  BLT Salad
Speaking of Valentine's - I made a BLT salad I found on that was superb and complimented our Shrimp and Scallop Stroganoff perfectly (see it hiding in the upper left corner of the picture?).  If you missed the recipe for the stroganoff, you can get it HERE.  Here's the recipe for the fabulous salad:

1 pound bacon
3/4 cup mayonnaise
1/4 cup milk
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper
Salt to taste
1 head romaine lettuce - rinsed, dried and shredded
2 large tomatoes, chopped
2 cups seasoned croutons

Place bacon in a large, deep skillet.  Cook over medium high heat, turning frequently, until evenly browned.  Drain, crumble and set aside.

In a blender or food processor, combine mayonnaise, milk, garlic powder and black pepper.  Blend until smooth.  Season the dressing with salt.

Combine lettuce, tomatoes, bacon and croutons in a large salad bowl.  Toss with dressing, and serve immediately.

3.  Oscars Host
I'm anxious to see how Neil Patrick Harris does hosting the Oscars.  Little Doogie Howser is all grown up and will be hosting one of the most challenging events, especially after Ellen was such a hit.  I'm rooting for him!  If you want to print a ballot or an Oscar bingo card, pop over HERE.

4.  Macey Hensley
Did you get to see Macey on Ellen this week?  ADORABLE!!  In honor of President's Day, take a look.  I would love to have her on my trivia team if presidents was one of the categories!

5.  Feeling
It's been cold here -- like REALLY cold.  Makes me feel like this...

Enjoy the weekend guys!  I'll be back on Monday to let you see a peek into what I did.  Please keep your fingers crossed that the weather doesn't mess up people's ability to get to my house.  This darn weather!!

  1. That BLT salad sounds super yummy, I'll have to try that recipe out for myself! I can't WAIT for the Oscar's, Neil Patrick Harris always ROCKS when he hosts the Tony's so hopefully Sunday will be no different <3

  2. The salad looks amazing. Actually the whole dinner sounds delicious!

  3. Yep, I'm rooting for Neil Patrick too! I think he'll do great. Hopefully no cringe-worthy jokes!

  4. I actually saw that episode of Ellen because I had the day off! She was too adorable. I don't really watch award shows but I love NPH. Doogie was actually my first crush as a little kid...which probably explains my current love life...or lack thereof...

  5. That BLT salad is calling my name! Have you ever tried it with turkey bacon? We don't usually have much pork bacon around, but I have a ton of turkey sitting in my freezer waiting for a recipe just like this lol! Thanks

  6. I bet Harris will do good hosting. I saw him co-hosting Kelly and (then) Regis once. He was good. :)

  7. BLT salad AND Shrimp Stroganoff? You just scored a new blog follower. I'm always looking for great new blogs to read. And now I'm starving!

  8. BLT salad is on my must make list. I love your blog! Thank you for sharing.

  9. Yummy Yummy Bacon, it wins me over every time! I totally love NPH and am so glad that he is hosting the Oscars again!

  10. Neil Patrick Harris is such a great actor from Doogie Howser and How I met Your Mother, he's even a better host. The BLT Salad looks really tasty.

  11. I love the breaking up with winter! we have no winter in California, wish it at least rained here..

  12. That salad looks amazing!! I am loving that we haven't had much winter in Washington state this year.

  13. I've never heard of Apothic wines, but I've been looking for new wines to try! Do they have a good selection of whites?

  14. I love bacon, but not mayonaise. I've never made my own dressing, so this does sound like something I might want to try.

  15. I like the sound of your BLT salad. That I wouldn't be able to get enough of.

  16. How have I never heard of this wine? It's going on the must buy list!

  17. Have a great Oscar's party! In preparation for tomorrow, we just watched 'Gone Girl'. It was well-done, but more than a tad disturbing... It'd be interesting if they showed a clip of his at the awards ceremony, and he made a quip about it.. :) Will be fun to see how it goes!

  18. That BLT recipe looks amazing! I really need to try it! And thanks for posting that funny video!

  19. Since the Oscars are usually way past my bed time here I just watch the highlights so hope all goes well for Neil. Need to check out that wine as well though I am not that much into wine but want to teach myself

  20. Hope the Oscars party went well! I didn't sit and watch it this year... but I do need to look around and watch a few highlight reels :) And yes - this winter has been crazy, even down here in the South! Thanks for linking up with us again at H54F!

  21. Love this post! I'll have to try out the wine and salad and I really love your winter break-up (that's why we moved to Florida this year...I just couldn't take another cold winter)!

  22. Yummy looking salad..i was disappointed with NPH's hosting the Oscars. He did ok..loved the number,,,,but everything else he did kind of tanked.

  23. The BLT salad looks like something I would like to try! Yum! I live in South Georgia so my cold doesn't come close to yours. I'm just tired of brown and gray everywhere!
