Today I'm thinking about what a cry baby I've been all week. I'm blaming the Olympics.
If someone wins a gold metal, I cry. Each morning as the NBC news covers the wins from the night before, I tear up. My poor mascara! Of course this happens right when I'm ready to walk out the door for work.
If they show the parents in the stands, I cry. Can you even imagine the tension sitting in the stands, watching your child perform with the world watching?!? Oh my goodness, I would be a complete basket case!
It's absolute waterworks when they tell a touching personal story! I was so touched when I heard the story of Carlin Isles, a US rugby player. Carlin was in foster care as a young child. In the bio story I saw he talked about how he was going to paint his story. He really took responsibility for his life and worked hard to get where he is. What a success story!
Oh - and then there's the metal ceremonies. Our National Anthem begins to play, the flag slowly moves upward. My heart swells with pride and the tears well up in my eyes.
Yes, it's been a week full of many, many tears. All happy and full of pride for our country. And I'll probably continue to be a cry baby until the closing ceremonies are finished and the Olympic coverage fades to black. But that's okay. Every few years it's great to shred all these happy tears.
Now it's your turn -- what are you thinking about this week? Have you been watching the Olympics? What's your favorite memory so far? Link up and let us know!

I always cry when watching the Olympics too! Happy tears. Such inspiring stories!
ReplyDeleteI had a friend who posted on FB/snapchat crying that she misses the KSDK news at 10 because of the Olympic coverage. She said she knows she can switch stations but she just needs KSDK, ha!
ReplyDeleteI'm the same way! The National Anthem always messes me up! The Final Five girls definitely make my heart swell.
ReplyDeleteYes! There are just so many inspiring stories in the Olympics! I've been watching off and on with my boys, and they are pretty intrigued by the whole thing since it's the first one they've seen.
ReplyDeleteI find myself getting emotional watching the olympics sometimes, too, so you are not alone! When Ryan Held broke down on the stands, I thought it was an incredibly poignant moment and I teared up too. I can only imagine the emotions that wash over them during those moments - pride, joy, immense satisfaction, gratefulness...
ReplyDeleteI love the olympics! I die with ally's parents!
ReplyDeleteThe first part of the Olympics that I was the gymnastics competition last night. I was welling up too! I've been so busy, I haven't had the chance to catch most of it, but it was a great show last night. What's your favorite competition to watch?
