Five on Friday - March 25, 2022

Happy Friday friends!  I'm so stoked about this weekend - it's Oscar time!  I was doing a slow panic earlier this week just thinking about my very long to-do list and how I was going to get it all done.  My friend Carol came to the rescue!  She and her crew came over and decorated my house and got it party-ready.  I can't wait for my guests to see it and to share it with you next week!

But first, let me share my five for today with you ~

1.  Bridgerton Season 2
Netflix is giving us season 2 of Bridgerton starting today!  The Shonda Rhimes hit mirrors the Julia Quinn books and is scrumptious to watch.  I'd be lying if I said I wasn't going to miss Rege-Jean Page this season, but I'm sure there will be a lot of others filling that gap.  Can't wait to see what Lady Whistledown has to gossip about!

2.  Michael Buble's Higher
Michael Buble is releasing a new album today titled Higher.  This is his 11th album and it's been three years since his last one.  We can look forward to hearing him doing a duet with Willie Nelson on the song "Crazy" and a new version of Paul McCartney's "My Valentine".  I'm looking forward to hearing all 13 songs on this one!

Janet Evanovich is starting a new series and the first book was released this week.  You might know Janet from her Stephanie Plum series.  This new series is all about Gabriela Rose.  Amazon summaries it like this ~
Lost something? Gabriela Rose knows how to get it back. As a recovery agent, she’s hired by individuals and companies seeking lost treasures, stolen heirlooms, or missing assets of any kind. She’s reliable, cool under pressure, and well trained in weapons of all types. But Gabriela’s latest job isn’t for some bamboozled billionaire, it’s for her own family, whose home is going to be wiped off the map if they can’t come up with a lot of money fast.

Inspired by an old family legend, Gabriela sets off for the jungles of Peru in pursuit of the Ring of Solomon and the lost treasure of Lima. But this particular job comes with a huge problem attached to it—Gabriela’s ex-husband, Rafer. It’s Rafer who has the map that possibly points the way to the treasure, and he’s not about to let Gabriela find it without him.

Rafer is as relaxed as Gabriela is driven, and he has a lifetime’s experience getting under his ex-wife’s skin. But when they aren’t bickering about old times the two make a formidable team, and it’s going to take a team to defeat the vicious drug lord who has also been searching for the fabled ring. A drug lord who doesn’t mind leaving a large body count behind him to get it.

The Recovery Agent marks the start of an irresistible new series that will have you clamoring for more and cheering for the unstoppable Gabriela Rose on every page.

4.  Oscars Ballot
Will you be watching the Oscars on Sunday night?  Click HERE to get your free, printable ballot.  Rather you're having a party or just watching with the fam, it's fun to fill out a ballot and see how you do picking with winners.  We'll definitely be filling out ballots at my party on Sunday!

5.  Not a bad idea...

Okay - I'm off to tackle a few more things on my to-do list.  Our friend is arriving this afternoon for the weekend and we can't wait!  I'm hoping to have most of my chores down before she arrives so it can be solid fun all weekend long!  Pop in on Monday to see how the weekend went.

Five on Friday - October 9, 2020

Hello Friday!  This week flew by and I'm so excited for the weekend.  We don't really have anything outrageously fun happening, but I'm still looking forward to working on a couple projects around the house I'm in the middle of.

Let's take a look at this week's five ~

1.  Krispy Kreme Halloween Donuts
They're back!  Krispy Kreme's Halloween donuts are available now and they are so darn cute!  There's Wolfie (original glazed dipped in chocolate icing and decorated like a werewolf), Frank (original Kreme filled dipped in green icing), and Drake (raspberry-filled).  To make it even better, participating Krispy Kremes are offering a buy one dozen, get another dozen for $1 deal every Saturday in October.  If you're ordering online, use the promotion code SweetOrTreat at checkout.  Buy a dozen to keep and get one to share with your neighbors!

John Grisham's final installment in the Jake Brigance legal thriller series is coming out Tuesday.  Here's the summary from Amazon ~
Clanton, Mississippi. 1990. Jake Brigance finds himself embroiled in a deeply divisive trial when the court appoints him attorney for Drew Gamble, a timid sixteen-year-old boy accused of murdering a local deputy. Many in Clanton want a swift trial and the death penalty, but Brigance digs in and discovers that there is more to the story than meets the eye. Jake’s fierce commitment to saving Drew from the gas chamber puts his career, his financial security, and the safety of his family on the line.

In what may be the most personal and accomplished legal thriller of John Grisham’s storied career, we deepen our acquaintance with the iconic Southern town of Clanton and the vivid cast of characters that so many readers know and cherish. The result is a richly rewarding novel that is both timely and timeless, full of wit, drama, and—most of all—heart.

Bursting with all the courthouse scheming, small-town intrigue, and stunning plot twists that have become the hallmarks of the master of the legal thriller, A Time for Mercy is John Grisham’s most powerful courtroom drama yet.

There is a time to kill and a time for justice. Now comes A Time for Mercy.
Sounds like a great book and a series that would be a great fall read!  Get your copy HERE.

3.  The War with Grandpa
There's a new movie opening this weekend and it looks adorable.  Robert DeNiro is starring as the grandpa.  His grandson is forced to give up his room and devises a series of outrageous pranks in an attempt to make him move out.  We haven't been back to a movie theater since they reopened.  Have you?  This film looks cute enough we just might consider going.

We have been working on some upgrades to our master bedroom closet and this drawer liner is on the list of things I want to install.  I have a small dresser in the closet and would love to line the drawers with scented paper.  They come in Fresh Linen, English Lavender, or Rose.  What a better way to wake the senses and bring something special to the every day!

5.  Some days...

Hope you have a wonderful weekend!  I'm crossing my fingers that I'll stay motivated enough to make big strides in the closet.  Also on the agenda is making a few cards.  Activity in my craft room has been pretty dormant lately.  Hopefully, that will change this weekend!  Pop in next week for the details.

Five on Friday - January 11, 2019

Hello there!  We are bracing ourselves for snow palooza over here.  The forecasters are saying we should begin seeing the flakes start to fall around 2:00 pm and there's 100% chance of snow by 5:00 pm.  Great - rush hour drive home should be a joy today!!  Before it's all over we could have  up to 11 inches of snow!  Looks like there's a strong likelihood that my exercise this weekend could consist of shoveling the driveway.

Before I start staring out the windows looking for the flakes to begin, let me share my five for today ~

1.  Love, Oreo
A new Oreo flavor hit the shelves this week just in time for Valentine's Day.  The cookies not only have hearts printed on them, they also are stamped with a message like "XOXO Oreo", "Dear Cupid, Send Oreo" and "Dunk in Love".  The pink filling is supposed to have a sweet and tangy flavor.  Rumor is from some that have tried them that it tastes similar to Fruity Pebbles.  I would say they are worth a try!  Have you seen them on your Target shelves yet?
2.  Suede Brush and Eraser
For years I have stayed away from suede shoes because I'm just hard on shoes.  Suede just didn't stand a chance in my wardrobe.  Recently, though, I've not been able to pass up the purchase of a few adorable pairs of suede booties.  My daughter-in-law introduced me to the art of using a suede brush and I now believe my cute little boots stand a chance.  Have suede in your closet?  You might need one of these kits too!
Premium Suede Brush & Nubuck Cleaner Crepe Brush and Suede Eraser Set - Shoe Cleaning Bristle Brushes Leather Care Kit

3.  The Upside
Since the first time we saw the trailer for this movie, I've been looking forward to it's release.  Hopefully we'll be able to make our way to the theater to see it this weekend.  Here's the synopsis from Rotten Tomatoes:
Inspired by a true story, The Upside is a heartfelt comedy about a recently paroled ex-convict (Kevin Hart) who strikes up an unusual and unlikely friendship with a paralyzed billionaire (Bryan Cranston). Directed by Neil Burger and written by Jon Hartmere, The Upside is based on the hit 2011 French film The Intouchables.

4.  Nora Fleming Collection
One of my favorite Christmas gifts was a Nora Fleming platter and I'm so darn excited to finally have one!  Have you heard about these?  The platter has a small hole in the corner and you can drop in a charm.  The charms are absolutely adorable and come in all kinds of designs.  I received the cutest Christmas tree to start my collection!  Now I'm ordering the heart for Valentine's Day. This one platter will serve every occasion by just changing out the mini charm!

5. Yep....

Okay guys -- have a great weekend!  We are going to try to stay safe and warm under all our snow.  I did remember that my mom got me one of the windshield blankets and I'm going to put it on my car this morning when I get to work.  I'll let you know how it works!  See you next week!

Five on Friday - November 9, 2018

Happy Friday!  Are you all adjusted from the time change last weekend?  I'll never get used to leaving work in the dark, but I just keep thinking that every day we are one day closer to spring and the light will return to my life!

Ready for my five for today?  Here you go ~

1.  Chalk Table Cloth
With Thanksgiving less than two weeks away, I decided to share some things you might "need" for your holidays this year.  My friend Tracy gifted me a chalk table cloth a few years ago and I love it!  I always throw it on a table at Thanksgiving with sticks of chalk and the kiddos stay busy for hours.  I've also used it at parties to write messages and identify treats being served.  My nephew, Kayden, also enjoys it when there's math problems written all over it and he can answer in chalk.  Need one at your house?  Click HERE to get your own.

Remember the Halloween pillow covers I got?  Well, check out the Thanksgiving ones!  I absolutely love adding these to my decor for this season!  I'm going to use the same pillows inserts I had for the Halloween pillows and just change the covers to these Thanksgiving ones.  For only $26.99 for six covers, they are pretty economical too.

3.  The Grinch
Are you tired of watching Hallmark Christmas movies but don't have your fill of Christmas movies just yet?  Step on out to the theaters because The Grinch opens today!  Here's the synopsis from Rotten Tomatoes ~
Each year at Christmas they disrupt his tranquil solitude with their increasingly bigger, brighter and louder celebrations. When the Whos declare they are going to make Christmas three times bigger this year, the Grinch realizes there is only one way for him to gain some peace and quiet: he must steal Christmas. To do so, he decides he will pose as Santa Claus on Christmas Eve, even going so far as to trap a lackadaisical misfit reindeer to pull his sleigh. Meanwhile, down in Who-ville, Cindy-Lou Who-a young girl overflowing with holiday cheer-plots with her gang of friends to trap Santa Claus as he makes his Christmas Eve rounds so that she can thank him for help for her overworked single mother. As Christmas approaches, however, her good-natured scheme threatens to collide with the Grinch's more nefarious one. Will Cindy-Lou achieve her goal of finally meeting Santa Claus? Will the Grinch succeed in silencing the Whos' holiday cheer once and for all?
Benedict Cumberbatch in The Grinch (2018)

4.  Hot Cocoa Hershey's Kisses
Looks like the new IT flavor this winter is going to be hot cocoa - which is fine by me!!  Look what Hershey's did.  They have created milk chocolate kisses filled with marshmallow creme.  Oh.My.Gosh!  Doesn't that sound like a little bit of heaven all wrapped up in a cute brown and white polka dot wrapper.  It's the first time in 10 years that Hershey's is launching a new seasonal flavor and I'm betting they were worth the wait.

5.  Selective Hearing....

Image may contain: text

Have a great weekend!  I have a bunch of chores to plow through and hoping to get the Halloween decoration switched out for our Thanksgiving ones.  Am I the last one to get their Halloween decorations taken down?  I'll also be spending time in my craft room working on some pirate decorations for a little boy's birthday party.  Hope you pop back in on Monday to see how it all went down.

Five on Friday - September 8, 2017

We've made it to Friday!  Sometimes these short weeks are the hardest to get through.  Hope yours hasn't been too bad.  As of me, I'm pumped about having a weekend after only four work days!

Want to see my five things I've found to share with you today?  Here you go ~

1.  Lego Advent Calendar
Let me just say I'm sorry in advance.  I'm usually not one to push Christmas before Thanksgiving, but these Lego Advent Calendars sell out so fast I thought I'd mention them now because they are in stock.  Typically, if you wait until after Thanksgiving to get yours, they are all sold out.  So if they look like something you would like to have this holiday season, get your now!  There's a couple to pick them.

2.  Hillbilly Elergy
My friend Linda recommended Hillbilly Elegy to me and I immediately bought it.  She very rarely recommends a book I don't love and this one is no exception.  I started it last weekend and finished it in record time.  If you're looking for your next read, check it out HERE.  Goodreads has to say about:
From a former Marine and Yale Law School Graduate, a poignant account of growing up in a poor Appalachian town, that offers a broader, probing look at the struggles of America’s white working class. Part memoir, part historical and social analysis, J. D. Vance’s Hillbilly Elegy is a fascinating consideration of class, culture, and the American dream.

Vance’s grandparents were “dirt poor and in love.” They got married and moved north from Kentucky to Ohio in the hopes of escaping the dreadful poverty around them. Their grandchild (the author) graduated from Yale Law School, a conventional marker of their success in achieving upward mobility for their family. But Vance cautions that is only the short version. The slightly longer version is that his grandparents, aunt, uncle, and mother struggled to varying degrees with the demands of their new middle class life and they, and Vance himself, still carry around the demons of their chaotic family history.

Delving into his own personal story and drawing on a wide array of sociological studies, Vance takes us deep into working class life in the Appalachian region. This demographic of our country has been slowly disintegrating over forty years, and Vance provides a searching and clear-eyed attempt to understand when and how “hillbillies” lost faith in any hope of upward mobility, and in opportunities to come.

At times funny, disturbing, and deeply moving, this is a family history that is also a troubling meditation on the loss of the American dream for a large portion of this country.

3.  The Beebo - Hand Free Bottle Holder
Did you see this on Shark Tank?  It definitely deserves a look!  We've all fed a baby before and wish we had an extra hand.  This is the answer!  Wouldn't this make a wonderful baby shower gift!?!  Check out the video below to see it in action.  You can buy it HERE.
The Beebo - Free Hand Baby Bottle Holder (Charcoal)

4.  Club Bites Mini Sandwich Crackers
Snacking is one of my favorites hobbies and these little babies look delicious!  I love Club crackers.  Add peanut butter or cheese and they sound even better!  You will find these in my lunch bag next week for sure.  Have you tried them?

5.  So true...

Fastest way to mess up someone's knock knock joke? "It's open"

Have a great weekend!  Eric and I are headed to the Clayton Art Fair tonight and tomorrow we're going to do a little hiking.  Pop in on Monday to hear all about it.

Let's all say a prayer for our friends in Florida and continue to keep Houston in our thoughts also.  I can't even imagine what those guys are going through.

Five on Friday - April 14, 2017

Oh my - am I excited about this day!  Good Friday is a holiday at my work so I can spend the day doing the stuff I typically don't get to do at home during the week.  Can't beat that!  First thing I'm going to do today is read some of my favorite blogs.

Speaking of favorite things, here's my five for this week ~

1.  Senior Pass for National Parks
Are you or do you know someone who is 62 years old?  If so, you should STRONGLY encourage them to get their Senior Pass from the National Park Service as soon as possible.  The Senior Pass currently is only $10 for a lifetime pass.  The cost is increasing to $80 this year.  What can you do with a Senior Pass?  You can get into more than 2,000 recreation sites managed by five Federal agencies for your lifetime.  The Senior Pass admits the pass owner and up to 3 passengers in a non-commercial vehicle free entrance into some of the most beautiful spots in the world.  Check out their website HERE for all the details.  But don't wait too long - $10 is a lot less than the $80 you'll have to pay when the price goes up!

2.  Going In Style
Every Monday, a friend of mine at work and I chat about what movies we saw over the weekend.  Last week he saw Going In Style and said it was really cute.  I'm definitely adding it to my want to see list.  Here's what Rotten Tomatoes has to say about it, "Oscar winners Morgan Freeman ("Million Dollar Baby"), Michael Caine ("The Cider House Rules," "Hannah and Her Sisters") and Alan Arkin ("Little Miss Sunshine") team up as lifelong buddies Willie, Joe and Al, who decide to buck retirement and step off the straight-and-narrow for the first time in their lives when their pension fund becomes a corporate casualty, in director Zach Braff's comedy "Going in Style." Desperate to pay the bills and come through for their loved ones, the three risk it all by embarking on a daring bid to knock off the very bank that absconded with their money."

3.  Waterproof Garden Gloves with Fingertip Claws
Spring is here and the height of gardening season will be here very soon.  These gloves look like they would be wonderful for any gardener out there!  What a unique Mother's Day gift!  These allow you to plant and dig without hand tools.  Amazing!  Interested in some?  Click HERE to check them out.

We read this book a while back in book club and, man, it's interesting.  Have you read it?  Later this month HBO is featuring the movie and guess who's starring in it - Oprah Winfrey.  HBO says this, "Oprah Winfrey and Rose Byrne star in this adaptation of Rebecca Skloot’s critically acclaimed, bestselling nonfiction book of the same name. Told through the eyes of Henrietta Lacks’ daughter, Deborah Lacks, the film chronicles her search, along with journalist Rebecca Skloot (Byrne), to learn about the mother she never knew and understand how the unauthorized harvesting of Lacks' cancerous cells in 1951 led to unprecedented medical breakthroughs, changing countless lives and the face of medicine forever."  The book was intriguing, but I thought by the end it got a little stale.  It's worth a read though.  It's available on Amazon HERE.

5.  Chat with my clothes...
My swimsuit told me to go to the gym. But my sweatpants were like, nah girl, you're good. Diet and Fitness Humor, Gym Memes, Fit, Running, Jogging, Cardio, Fitbit, Exercise, Workout, Weight Loss, Fat, Active, Sports, Sweat, Nutrition
Hope you have a very special Easter.  After church, Eric and I will be going to the St. Louis Blues hockey game.  What's on your agenda for the day?  Whatever it is, enjoy your Easter and see you back next week.

Five on Friday - July 1, 2016

Holy moly - it's finally Friday!  Happy Fourth of July weekend - three days off here I come!

I'm looking forward to having a little down time to catch up with some stuff. Before that starts, here's my five for this week ~

1. Lingerie Bra Storage Travel Organizer

I've been doing a bit of traveling lately and I found I need a bag for my lingerie.  This little tote would fit the bill quite nicely.  Let's face it, if you're going through Customs and they want to look in your suitcase, who wants their bras and underwear just hanging out for everyone to see?!?  This handy case would keep your private things private.  Click HERE to check it out.  It comes in some cute colors!
2.  National Gingersnap Day
Today is National Gingersnap Day!  Gingersnaps are actually part of my weekend plans.  You see, our local orchard has pick your own peaches this weekend and I plan to whip up a nice peach crisp with gingersnap crumble topping.  Doesn't that sound so good!  I'm using the recipe over at Sweet Peas and Saffron.  If it's as delicious as it sounds, I'll be sharing the recipe next week.

National Creative Ice Cream Flavors Day July 1

This magic makeup has become my all time favorite mascara.  It does it all -- lengthens, curls, volumizes and conditions.  And it's clinically proven to increase lash volume by 330%!!  Talk about making your lashes look longer and more full!  Want some?  Click HERE to order yours.

4.  Fourth of July Craft
Check out this cool Fourth of July craft idea by Crafty Morning.  How much fun would this be to make with the kids!  The supply list is minimal and you know how kids love to paint.  If you wanted to make it sparkle, you could even add in a bit of glitter.  Great craft idea!

5.  Maybe next year...
Have a safe and happy holiday weekend!  I'm hoping to catch the firework extravaganza at Forest Park again this year.  Sammy Hagar is in town to perform a free show on Sunday night and I want to be there to see it!  Followed by a bit of firework action and my Fourth will be complete!  I'm also visiting a friend for a cookout and going to a wedding shower.   Fun times!!  I still want to tell you about the awesome trip me and my friend, Linda, took to Memphis so I'm hoping to wrap that post up this weekend as well.  So much to do and so little time!  :)  See you soon.

Five on Friday - April 22, 2016

Hello Friday!  I'm so ready for this weekend ~ friends are on their way to my house and an epic weekend is just a few shorts hours away.  We have an action packed couple of days planned and I can't wait to get this weekend started!  With some luck, I believe the weather is even going to help us out by delivering a couple beautiful spring days.  Before I head out, here's my five ~

1.  Purple Rain
In honor of Prince, I think I'll be serving a batch of Purple Rain drinks this weekend.  So sad to lose this musical icon at such a young age.  He was on my concert bucket list and I'm sorry I won't have the opportunity to see him perform in person.  Raspberry Beret is one of my favorite songs.  What was your favorite Prince song?

2.  Catastrophe
This adult Amazon original series is very clever.  I'm hooked.  I binge watched the entire first season in one sitting and am on to season 2.  Have you seen it?  Here's the description from Amazon:  "Rob Delaney and Sharon Horgan write and star in this R-rated comedy about a one-week stand between a Boston ad exec and a London schoolteacher that leads to an accidental pregnancy. When Rob moves to the UK to help figure things out, cultures clash and hormones flare as these two realize they don't know the first thing about each other."  You need Amazon Prime to have access.  Not a Prime member?  No worries ~ Try Amazon Prime 30-Day Free Trial by clicking on these blue words.

3.  National Picnic Day
Guess what tomorrow is?  National Picnic Day!  Who doesn't love a picnic?!?  The weather is supposed to be great in our area all weekend.  Perfect for packing up a cute little picnic and heading outside.  Even when it's raining, it's still fun to spread a blanket in the living room and pop a squat right there on the floor.  What a fun thing to do with the kids!  Check out these adorable reuseable outdoor utensil set from Pampered Chef.  They are on sale right now for $2 for a set of 6.   Great deal!  Click HERE to purchase.
Outdoor Utensil Set (set of 6)
Add the utensils to this collapsible cooler tote and you should be ready to go!  Love the monogram on this bag!

4.  Quaker Breakfast Flats
I'm going to be on the lookout for these babies. Getting out of the house in the morning is sometimes a challenge and Quaker's breakfast flats looks like something I would love to grab for a quick breakfast. They come in three tasty flavors: Banana Honey Nut, Cranberry Almond and Golden Raisin Cinnamon. Quaker Breakfast Flats are under 200 calories -- perfect since I'm trying to cut down on my calorie intake. Added bonuses ~ they are a good source of fiber AND have no artificial flavors or added colors.
5.  I remember these days....

Have a fantastic weekend!  Get out there and do something fun.  No time like the present to start enjoying life!  See you on Monday!

Five on Friday - February 19, 2016

Welcome to Friday! Wow, this week has flown by for me. I've been working a lot and still have a lot of work to go before I'm ready for a program at my real job next week.  I'm looking forward to a great weekend so I'll be all rested up and ready to go on Monday.  Before I start the weekend, here's my Five on Friday ~

1.  Our New Niece - Nevaeh
We got a very special surprise last week.  My brother's family adopted a precious little girl and they named her Nevaeh.  Her name is Heaven spelled backwards and she truly has been sent from there.  Eric and I went to their house last weekend to meet her and she stole our hearts.  We are so blessed to have her in our family!

2. Downton Abbey
There are so many things I love about Downton Abbey and I know I'm really going to miss this series when it concludes on March 6.  One of the things I'm going to miss the most is Maggie Smith and her witty comments as she plays Violet, Dowager Countess of Grantham.  When I ran across this you tube video, I knew it was going to be one of my favorites this week.  What are you going to miss about Downton when it concludes?

3.  2016 Grammy Nominees CD
Eric has gotten me the Grammy Nominees CD for the last several years and I absolutely love them!  It's all the best songs wrapped up in one great package.  Artists like Bruno Mars, Ed Sheeran, and Meghan Trailor and many more have hits on this year's disc - 21 in total.  Great mix of music!

5.  Words to Live By....

Have a wonderful weekend!  I'm hoping not to have to work on Saturday during the day and then we're going to a retirement party for my friend Janet who retired a few weeks ago  in the evening.  A bonus this weekend is our weather is supposed to be in the 70s!  Woo Hoo!  I might have to break out the sunscreen!  See you back here next week!
