Weekending - October 12, 2018

As I was driving home from Kansas City yesterday, I realized why I like writing my weekend posts.  I love to relive them as I type out the details!  So many times in life I feel we rush through things and don't stop to acknowledge the good times.  Well here's me acknowledging that this past weekend was pretty darn fantastic!

Even though I had to work most of the day on Friday, I felt like my weekend started on Thursday night when I met two friends for an impromptu dinner.  It was great to connect with them over sushi and catch up with what was going on in our lives.

Friday I worked as fast as I could and my daughter-in-law, Kayla, and I were able to begin on journey to Kansas City by mid afternoon.  I loved having her with me and it made the car ride so much more enjoyable!  We arrived at my friend Linda's house, scooped her up and headed to dinner at Jack Stack Barbecue.   Linda's brother met us there to round out our table of four.  We started with a nice round of drinks.

If you're ever in the KC area and looking for some great barbecue, check out Jack Stack.  They have a couple locations around town so it's likely that you will be able to find one near you.  Their burnt ends are to die for!  I had a combo plate of burnt ends and shrimp.  And don't underestimate their sides!  I sampled the hickory pit beans, cheesy potato bake, cheesy corn bake and their green beans - all DELICIOUS!

Saturday morning Kayla, Linda and I cruised over to Chez Elle Creperie and Coffeehouse to meet our friend Mary for breakfast and shopping.

Three of us choose the same thing - the Le Franco - which was caramelized green apple with spices, toasted walnuts, fig compote, Brie cheese and creme fraiche.  I really wish they offered a flight of smaller crepes so you could have more than one flavor!

Then there was shopping!  Nothing like a little retail therapy with friends to make a day wonderful.  The painting on this wall right outside Chez Elle was a beautiful site with its brilliant colors.  Very blog worthy.

I fell in love with the little bread shop right across the street.  We purchased a few goodies from there to snack on later.  The cheese bread was fantastic and will be on my mind for a while.  Their cheese was equally as wonderful.  I wonder if they ship to St. Louis??

From this part of town we ventured over to the West Bottoms area.  Thrift shopping at it's prime!   All of us found treasures we had to take home with us.    My favorite was the Restoration Emporium.  This warehouse building had a little bit of everything inside.  No matter what your taste is, there would be something for you.

We shopped until the last minute possible before leaving Mary and departing to meet up with our friend Jody who was joining us for dinner and the Ed Sheeran concert.  For dinner we met at Summit Grill and it was the perfect place.  Happy Hour drinks and menu was in force and we took full advantage of it.  No joke, we talked about how good the sliders were for the rest of the night and into the next day!

We had bought tickets to see Ed Sheeran at Arrowhead Stadium almost a year ago and never dreamed it would be 45 degrees outside on concert night!  Winter gear in tow, we headed to the venue.  I had only been to Arrowhead one other time for a concert and remembered how terrible the traffic was getting in.  This time was no different.  We got a later start than we had planned and definitely paid the price.  Arrowhead management people -- there HAS to be a better way to get cars in the parking lots!!  After what should have been a 30 minute process turned into 2 hours, we parked and walked to the gate only to have our purses rejected.  The rule was no purse larger than 4.5" x 6.5".  I measured mine when I got home and it was 5" x 7".  Linda's was about the same size.  Jodie and Kayla were smart and left their's in the car.  Seriously people - so frustrating!!  We went to customer service, crammed everything that was in our purses into our coat pockets and left our purses there.  By the time we landed at our seats, the second opener (Snow Patrol) was on their next to last song.

Not that I'm bitter or anything, but tell me this purse that we saw inside the stadium is 4.5" x 6.5".  I think it came down to what gate you entered.

Ok - enough of the badness about Arrowhead.  We were there to enjoy Ed and we did!!  I just love him!!  He stands on the stage all by himself and talks to his audience like you were sitting in his living room.  The set list on Saturday include 19 of his favorites and warming the crowd's hearts even with the cold temperatures.

He might have been a little embarrassed after the show when he realized he was in MISSOURI, not Kansas as he repeatedly said.  Oh well Ed, I forgive you!  I imagine most of the people in the audience did too.

Guess what we did Sunday morning before driving home?  We went to see A Star is Born.  Two of us had seen it and two of us had not.  All four of us loved it (again)!  If you haven't seen it, add it to your list.

And just like that the weekend was in the books.  Kayla and I drove home reliving the fun moments from the weekend and planning Thanksgiving.  We stopped on our way through to say hello to my parents.  What an overall great weekend!  Hope you had a great one too!

Stop and Shop Saturday

About this time of year, I have the majority of my Christmas shopping complete.  All the "low lying fruit" (presents for people I know what I'm getting) has been picked and now I'm searching for those unique gifts for the harder people on my list.  You know the ones.

One of my go to stores for these types of presents is UncommonGoods.  Have you seen their stuff?  There are so many things to choose from you will have no problem whatsoever finishing your shopping list and checking it twice!  Not to mention everyone will be LOVING their presents!  Here are a few items I would love Santa to drop under my tree ~

Ticket Stub Diary - $12
Do you have a concert or theater lover in your mist?  Check out this Ticket Stub Diary!  What a great way to preserve those tickets and memories from sporting events, movies, concerts -- you name it, any type of ticket.  I'm thinking this would also pair nicely if you are giving someone event tickets for Christmas.  Just tuck them in the first page for an added surprise when the recipient opens the book.  There is even a place to jot down your favorite memory from the event.

Inside this recycled steel tin are seeds that when planted will grow into your very own Scotch pine Christmas tree!  Wouldn't this be perfect for that person who just moved into their first home or the gardener in your life?!?  Or what about in your child or grandchild's stocking.  In the spring you can plant it together and watch it grow.  How precious!
CHRISTMAS TREE TO BE:
I would be hopping out of bed everyday excited to start my day if I had one of these aromatherapy shower kits hanging in my shower!  It turns your plain Jane shower into a personal spa.  The starter kit comes with three signature aromatherapy blends and refills are available.  You can change up the oil to suit your mood.  I would love one!

Need a little something to add to that bottle of wine you're gifting someone?  How about these wine pearls!  They keep your wine at just the right temperature without diluting like regular ice cubes would.  Here's a little fun fact for you that I learned from the Uncommon Goods website, "While vino aficionados wouldn't dare serve a white wine at room temperature, it's also important to give red wines the same consideration. When reds are served too warm, the alcohol tends to predominate, concealing the fruit of the wine and resulting in a loss of typicity and personality. Fortunately, when you pop a wine pearl into a room-temperature pour of red wine, you can bring it down to cellar temperature (54–64º F/12–16º C) in a matter of minutes."  See you need these for your white AND red wines!

I could go on and on with products I love, but I'll leave the browsing up to you.  Click HERE to get to the UncommonGoods website and see all their super cool stuff for yourself.  Here's some other helpful blog posts with some gift ideas:

As an added bonus when you purchase from UncommonGoods - they make it their mission to support and provide a platform for artists and designers.  Half of what they sell is made by hand.  Most of the jewelry products, home decor and table top items are created right here in the good ole' USA and about a third of the entire collection incorporates recycled and/or upcycled materials.  Bottom line -- flat out a good company to buy from!  Happy shopping!

Weekending - October 7, 2016

Oh my goodness -- this Monday came way too quick.  This weekend was full of fun, family, friends and food.  Great times!

Friday night I had the opportunity to meet my friend, Lauren's, new baby.  She is the sweetest, cutest, most adorable little one!  You might remember I had a gender reveal party for Lauren with our friends last May.  If you missed it, you can see it HERE.  Can't wait for the opportunity to hold her again!

Saturday morning Eric and I headed to see The Girl on the Train.  We love going to movies on Saturday morning and chose a dine in theater to catch this flick.  I had not finished the book, so the ending was a surprise to me.  Overall, I give this movie a 7 out of 10.  Did you get a chance to see it?  What did you think?

When we left the movie we drove to Long Row Lavender Farm.  This lavender farm is located in Wright City, Missouri.  Great find!  The shop, which is open on Saturdays, is full of wonderful lavender products.  Eric and I enjoyed walking the rows of fragrant plants and checking out the items for sale.

Since we were so close to my home town, we drove on down to get our niece and nephews fix  It was fun to surprise my parents with a drop in visit.  The babies are growing so fast and I'm so glad we are close enough to watch them grow.

Sunday after church we met up with Ian and Kayla for a quick lunch.  We chose Twin Oak BBQ and Pizza to dine.  It was the first time any of us had been there and have to admit, it was just okay.  We ordered the Cheese and Beer soup, Mac and Cheese with burnt ends and a pizza.  The pizza was the best thing we had.

After lunch, Kayla and I broke away to do some shopping.  We accidentally stumbled into a shop that I'm so excited about - Nothing Bundt Cakes.  The shop was adorable and the cakes were delicious.  Trust me, you will be seeing these little babies at a party at my house in the near future.  I don't know how this shop hasn't been on my radar before now!  I purchased a small lemon bundlet for Eric and I to share.  Their little bundtinis would make perfect desserts for a party.

After visiting a few more shops, I needed to head home so I could head out with Sherri and Tracy.  We had tickets for the Tribute to Prince at the St. Louis Symphony.  Oh.My.Goodness -- great night!!  Jason Tenner flew in from Vegas to sing along with the orchestra.  The lively crowd sang, danced  and were able to enjoyed a special "Purple Rain" cocktail.  I totally blew it on my outfit.  Should definitely had worn purple.  What was I thinking?!?  Truly enjoyed every second of the show.

Monday is here and it's back to work.  The weekend was a blast and hard to believe it's over already.  How was your weekend?  Hope it was great!  Oh -- regarding the bundlet, Eric and I devoured it while watching the debate which we had recorded.  So, so good!

Weekending - November 28, 2014

The last four days have seriously been a blur!  Thanksgiving was a wonderful day full of family and food.  We have so much to be thankful for.  I loved spending the day with family!  Here's a picture of our Thanksgiving table.

On Friday, my mom, daughter-in-law and I headed out to conquer Black Friday shopping.  We all did a pretty good job putting a dent in our Christmas gift shopping.  I still had some birthday rewards to cash in before the end of the month.  This reward stuff is getting to be a pretty sweet deal -- this year I received the following rewards for my birthday:

$15 from Ann Taylor Loft
$25 from Tommy Hilfiger
$10 Godiva (Have you ever had one of the chocolate drinks?  DELISH!!)
$5 DSW
$10 Kohl's
$10 World Market

See what I mean -- not a bad deal!  The Ann Taylor Loft coupon basically went straight from my mail box to the store.

Here's what the back of our vehicle looked like after our shopping day on Friday:

I honestly have no idea what I did on Saturday.  I know I was busy all day, but I really don't have much to show for it.  Ever have days like that?  Suddenly the day was gone and I still had a million things I needed to get done.  Welcome to the holiday season!  I did manage to whip up this banner.

Sunday we were at the Rams game.  The game where the Rams won 52-0.  I know, we were playing the Raiders and they aren't having the best season.  But the Rams haven't really been a sure thing lately, so it was good to see them show up and play. I think Tre Mason might be my new favorite player.

St. Louis Rams running back Tre Mason, right, runs with the ball as Oakland Raiders defensive end Benson Mayowa, left, gives chase during the first quarter of an NFL football game Sunday, Nov. 30, 2014, in St. Louis.

Monday begins December.  How did that happen?!?!  This year has whizzed by!  We've got one more month in 2014 and I'm looking forward to making the most of it.  Are you with me!  Let's do this!

Check out what others were up to this weekend.
