Five on Friday - January 20, 2017

Oh my gosh -- I can't express how glad I am that it's Friday!  I've been away on business all week and get to return home today.  Can.Not.Wait!

Hope you enjoy today's five ~

1.  Ticket to Ride
Every year we head to Kansas City to join our friends for New Year's Eve.  The holiday is spent playing all kinds of board and card games.  This year we added a new game to the mix - Ticket to Ride.  Have you played before?  So much fun!!  The game has a variety of strategic and tactical choices as you build railroads across the US and Canada, making it a little different every time you play.  If you have 30-60 minutes and 2-5 players, you should give this game a try.  We loved it so much that we had to buy the game to have at our house.  Anyone want to come over and play?  If you want one for your family, click HERE to purchase.

2.  Shout Color Catcher
Who has ever put a red shirt in the same laundry load as their favorite white one?  (My hand is raised.)  We all know the terrible results that can produce.  Scared to give the task of washing clothes to your teenager for fear your entire wardrobe will turn a soft pink color?  Well, fear no more!  These Shout Color Catcher sheets lock up loose dyes and prevent them from bleeding all over your other clothes.  That's right, no need to sort!  Now you don't have to do just a half load.  Load it up with all your colors, toss in a Shout Color Catcher and be on your way.  Need some?  Get yours HERE!

3.  Birchbox
You've heard me say a million times how much I love my Birchbox.  My friend Tracy gave me my first subscription for a birthday present and I've been a loyal subscriber ever since.  If you haven't taken the plunge and joined, now might be the perfect time for you.  Right now new subscribers get an extra box for FREE by using the code DOUBLEFUN.  That's right -- you can get TWO boxes, each filled with five magical beauty products for just $10!  Pretty cool deal.  Click HERE to check it out.

4.  This Is Us
Are you a fan of This Is Us??  I sure am and was thrilled to read that NBC has renewed it for a second AND third season!!  Whoop!  Whoop!  Will we get to see Kate loose weight?  Will Kevin settle down with a love of his life?  Will Randall totally forgive Rebecca?  Hopefully over the next 2 years we will find out!

5.  Time to go on a diet....

Have a great weekend!  We are headed to Eric's hometown to finally celebrate Christmas with his mom.  I've got a list of things I want to do around the house a mile long so hopefully some of that will be happening too.  Whatever you're doing, I hope you have a wonderful time.  Hope to see you back here soon!

Thinking Out Loud Thursday - January 19, 2017

Happy Thursday!  We've almost made it to the weekend!  Thanks for popping in today for some Thinking Out Loudness.

I've been away from home all week for work and am really looking forward to getting back there on Friday.  It seems when I'm away I get all fired up about the things I'm going to do when I arrive back home.  Mind you, last weekend I was in my house most of the weekend and managed to get little to nothing done.  But I have high hopes that this weekend will be different.

As you know, Monday was Martin Luther King Day.  Since many people had the day off, it meant for those of us who had to work traffic was fantastic!  To make the day even better, I saw so many great quotes from Dr. King.  Now, I have to admit, I'm a true sucker for a good quote. So to keep my spirits high and my motivation at a peak level, I thought I would reminisce about some of the great quotes I saw on Monday ~

7 Powerful Quotes About Love From Martin Luther King Jr. | YourTango:

MLK More:

Do you have a favorite quote?  Hope some of these inspire you!  And here's hoping I'll stay inspired to do some great things when I get home on Friday.  :)

Five on Friday - October 7, 2016

Welcome to Friday!  This week has flown by and I would be lying if I said I wasn't so excited for the weekend looking at us in face.  I have a list a mile long of things to do and but some really fun stuff happening too.  And I'm excited to share my five with you today ~

1.  Register to Vote
Are you registered to vote this November?  Many of the state deadlines to registered are fast approaching (Missouri is October 12), so if you're not registered you should hop on it.  Having the right to vote is such a privilege - don't waste your chance!

2.  OPI Breakfast at Tiffany's Nail Polish
OPI has done it again - the new Breakfast at Tiffany's colors are out.  Twelve magnificent colors just in time for the holidays.  There are several collections available at Ulta.  How fun would these be to tuck in someone's Christmas stocking.  Hey - it's not too early to start thinking about Christmas.  Only 78 more wake ups until the big day.

3.  Hands Free Life
Over the last several days, I've listened to Rachel Macy Stafford's Hands Free Life as I'm getting ready for work.  I wish I could place a copy of this book in every young mother's hands! Really, it is a great book for everyone.  The thought-provoking messages are well written and interesting.  It is one of the most inspirational books I've ever read.  Want a copy?  Click HERE to get yours.

4.  The Girl on the Train Movie
I've been waiting for this one!  The book got so much hype, but I really never got into it.  To be honest, once I saw the previews for the movie I stopped reading and thought I'd just wait for the movie release.  Well it's released!  Hoping to find a time to see it this weekend.  Here's the summary,
"Commuter Rachel Watson (Emily Blunt) catches daily glimpses of a seemingly perfect couple, Scott and Megan, from the window of her train. One day, Watson witnesses something shocking unfold in the backyard of the strangers' home. Rachel tells the authorities what she thinks she saw after learning that Megan is now missing and feared dead. Unable to trust her own memory, the troubled woman begins her own investigation, while police suspect that Rachel may have crossed a dangerous line."

5.  Something to think about.....

Have a great fall weekend!  I'm hoping to visit a lavender farm tomorrow and am going to the symphony Sunday for a Prince tribute.  Fun, fun and more fun!  My goal is to tell you all about it on Monday.  I haven't been the best at sharing my weekending adventures with you lately, but hopefully I will be able to fit in a blog post on Monday.  Toodles!

Five on Friday - August 12, 2016

Happy Friday everyone!  This has been a whirlwind week for me with activities every night and full days at work.  To add to my normal happenings, there's the Olympics.  Just can't turn them off and go to bed!  I'm looking forward to the weekend!!  Eric is off work and we have some cool activities in the works.

Here's the five for this week ~

1.  National Vinyl Record Day
These babies are making a comeback!  Do you have any vinyl records you spin in your house?  Guess what the highest selling vinyl record is for 2016 - it's Blackstar by David Bowie.  I have so many fun memories of playing records while I was growing up.  Makes me happy that their comeback is on.

2.  Ink
One of my coworkers turned me on to the coolest new app this week ~ Ink.  This app allows you to design your own card (with one of your pictures if you like), write a personal note and then Ink will take care of printing and sending your creative in the mail to the recipient.  How cool is that?!? Personalized cards without running out to the store or having to go to the post office for a stamp.   I love the concept and am excited to do a little designing soon.

3.  Florence Foster Jenkins
I'm adding this movie that opens today to my list of want to see movies because of the cast alone.  Meryl Streep and Hugh Grant are two of my favorites.  This is the movie about a wealthy New York heiress that is attempting to become an opera singer - but everyone seems to be ignoring the fact that she can't sing!  Critics are giving Meryl Streep high marks.  Looks like a fun movie!

My Target Beauty Box arrived a few days ago and a sample of the Acure facial cleansing gel was included.  Love it!  The smell really wakes me up in the morning and it leaves my skin feeling so smooth.  It only takes a small dab to cleanse your entire face.  Where has this stuff been all my life?!?  Click HERE to get some of your own.

5.  Something to remember....

Have a great weekend!  Eric and I are going to a wedding reception tonight and to see Paul McCartney tomorrow night - I'm so excited!!  I'm going to squeeze in a bridal shower in between.  Hope you have fun things planned too.  See you back on Monday!

Five on Friday - July 1, 2016

Holy moly - it's finally Friday!  Happy Fourth of July weekend - three days off here I come!

I'm looking forward to having a little down time to catch up with some stuff. Before that starts, here's my five for this week ~

1. Lingerie Bra Storage Travel Organizer

I've been doing a bit of traveling lately and I found I need a bag for my lingerie.  This little tote would fit the bill quite nicely.  Let's face it, if you're going through Customs and they want to look in your suitcase, who wants their bras and underwear just hanging out for everyone to see?!?  This handy case would keep your private things private.  Click HERE to check it out.  It comes in some cute colors!
2.  National Gingersnap Day
Today is National Gingersnap Day!  Gingersnaps are actually part of my weekend plans.  You see, our local orchard has pick your own peaches this weekend and I plan to whip up a nice peach crisp with gingersnap crumble topping.  Doesn't that sound so good!  I'm using the recipe over at Sweet Peas and Saffron.  If it's as delicious as it sounds, I'll be sharing the recipe next week.

National Creative Ice Cream Flavors Day July 1

This magic makeup has become my all time favorite mascara.  It does it all -- lengthens, curls, volumizes and conditions.  And it's clinically proven to increase lash volume by 330%!!  Talk about making your lashes look longer and more full!  Want some?  Click HERE to order yours.

4.  Fourth of July Craft
Check out this cool Fourth of July craft idea by Crafty Morning.  How much fun would this be to make with the kids!  The supply list is minimal and you know how kids love to paint.  If you wanted to make it sparkle, you could even add in a bit of glitter.  Great craft idea!

5.  Maybe next year...
Have a safe and happy holiday weekend!  I'm hoping to catch the firework extravaganza at Forest Park again this year.  Sammy Hagar is in town to perform a free show on Sunday night and I want to be there to see it!  Followed by a bit of firework action and my Fourth will be complete!  I'm also visiting a friend for a cookout and going to a wedding shower.   Fun times!!  I still want to tell you about the awesome trip me and my friend, Linda, took to Memphis so I'm hoping to wrap that post up this weekend as well.  So much to do and so little time!  :)  See you soon.

Five on Friday - June 10, 2016

Happy Friday friends!  Are you ready for a weekend?!?  This chick seriously is.  I'm motivated to get some things done this weekend so before that feeling leaves me, I want to hop into things.  Before I get going on my to do list, here's my five for this week.

1.  Plantable Cards
I am loving these plantable cards!  This is a set of 5 cards and each are generously embedded with a mix of wildflower seeds that will grow just about anywhere.  How cool would one of these be to get in your mailbox!  It's great to get a piece of snail mail, but this is a bonus to be able to plant the card after reading it and watching someone's kind words grow into beautiful flowers.  Buy yours HERE.

2.  Mad Men Auction
Were you a Mad Men fan?  Check this out -- there is an auction going on RIGHT NOW where you can bid on items like Don Draper's tool box, Pete Campbell's blue suit and Roger Sterling's sock garters - just to name a few.  There are literally hundred of items!  The lots begins closing June 13 through June 15.  Click HERE to check out all the goodies.  Let me know if you win one!

3.  National Ice Tea Day
Sip a nice, tall glass of ice tea day in celebration of National Ice Tea Day!  Guess what some participating Starbucks are doing today to celebrate ~ When you buy one iced tea on June 10, you'll get one free.  What a deal!  Starbucks has some delicious Teavana teas so stop by and grab a couple.  Not sure what to order ~ try their Mango Black Tea Lemonade.  It's the ideal balance of tart and sweet.  Snapple is also giving away a free bottle of tea.  Click HERE to get your printable coupon.

4.  Mango Coconut Ice Cream
One of the great things about my husband working at a grocery store is when a new product hits the shelves, he likes to bring it home to try.  This week Blue Bunny's new seasonal Mango Coconut Ice Cream showed up at our house.  It is coconut ice cream with a mango sorbet swirl.  YUMMO!  Highly recommend you giving it a try.

5.  I love my friends....

Have a great weekend!  I'm joining my friends tomorrow and heading to Hidden Lake Winery to celebrate my friend Tracy's birthday.  Should be a great time!  I'm also going to try my very best to get a meal plan in order for next week.  Lately that is something I haven't been doing and it makes my week so much smoothly when I do.  I'll let you know how that goes.  :)

Five on Friday - May 13, 2016

Happy Friday the Thirteenth!  I have to be honest ~ I love Friday the Thirteenths.  They've been kind of lucky for me in the past so I'm always a little excited on the inside when I see one approaching on the calendar.  So here's hoping today will be lucky for you and for me!

Special shout out to our son, Ian.  Last night was his hooding ceremony for law school.  All his hard work has payed off and we couldn't be more proud of him!

Let's take a look at this week's five:

1.  Baby Girls Flower Headbands
We were blessed with a baby niece in February and I couldn't wait to fill her closet with dresses and bows.  I found these adorable flower headbands on Amazon and the price was so fantastic I wondered if that would be as cute in real life as they were on screen.  They were!  A pack of 10 different colors is only $3.99 (plus $3.69 for shipping).  How can you beat that?!?  Want some of your own?  Click HERE to check them out.

2.  New Jell-O Pudding Flavors
Look what Jell-O did -- they put two new flavors of pudding snacks on the shelves.  S'more and Strawberry Sundae.  These babies are made with real milk and have no artificial sweeteners.  I'm thinking these would be a great snack to have on hand when the kids come in from playing outside or to throw in the lunchbox.  Have you tried them?  They are in the refrigerated section of the store if you're on the hunt for them.

3.  Adjustable Tiered Tower
Check out this adorable tiered tower that's in the outlet section of Pampered Chef.  It's on sale for $13.35!  I'm so excited to add a couple of these to my dish collection.  These are great to pull out when you're entertaining.  Here's the description straight from Pampered Chef, "Mix and match the three white ceramic plates and columns four different ways. The columns feature a satin nickel finish and include a decorative cardholder to let guests know what you're serving. The tower fully disassembles for compact storage. Plates, 7", 9" and 10½" diameters; tower, 12½" fully assembled. Plates are dishwasher-safe."  Want one?  Click HERE to order.  While you're there, be sure to check out the other items in the clearance section!  Oh, and they are only there while supplies last don't delay getting yours.

4.  Well-Read Woman - A Reader's Journal
Do you have a reader in you life?  Are you a reader? You might be wanting a reader's journal.  Here's the description from Amazon:  "Well-read women keep their books close to their heart. Here they can record what they've read, reflect on their favorite characters and notable quotations, and list books to devour next. With a satin ribbon bookmark and gorgeous watercolor portraits of literature's most beloved female characters—plus a comprehensive list of prize-winning fiction to inspire new selections—this go-to reading companion is as elegant as it is practical."  This would make a great gift for a couple people I know.

5.  This is so me...
Penny's Passion: Five on Friday - May 13, 2016:

Have a fantastic weekend!  We will be celebrating Ian's graduation with a family party tomorrow.  I've got a meeting with the wedding venue for the wedding I'm helping with in a few weeks and I'm taking my parents to visit a creamery.  Lots of fun stuff!  Hope you get in some fun stuff too!  See you next week!

Five on Friday - May 6, 2016

What a fun week this has been!  Monday night I hosted a gender reveal party ~ if you missed the recap, check it out HERE.  The rest of the week was full of sports.  The Blues hockey team played on Tuesday and Thursday and I went to the Cardinals baseball game on Wednesday.  Fun week!  What fun things did you do this week?  Ready for the weekend?!?

Before we head into this Mother's Day weekend, here's my five for this week ~

1.  Font Candy App
My niece has been using the most adorable app for my great-nephew's monthly photos.  It's called Font Candy.  It has a ton of editing options like the font, font color, size, placement.  You can just tweak away until it's just right.  For all you moms out there, this is a fantastic way to capture what's happening in the life of your child pretty easily.  Here's a couple examples of some pics she created.  And this is a great opportunity for me to show off my very adorable great-nephew, Hunter!  He just makes me swoon!

2.  Kidzikoo Coozie
Thinking of my little niece and nephews, have you guys seen these super cute little insulators that works on bottles, sippy cups and water bottles?  Oh my goodness ~ I can think of SOOOOO many reasons to have these around if you have kiddos.  They stretch to fit most 8-12 ounce baby bottles and sippy cups.  They also fits 12 ounce Klean Kanteens, 12 ounce soda/juice cans and water bottles up to 16.9 ounces.  Wouldn't it be nice to quickly be able to identify your kids drink cup when they are on a playdate?  Or have something on those sippy cups to absorb the condensation and eliminate the water rings left on your furniture?!?  They come in several adorable patterns.  Get yours before the hot weather is here!  Click HERE to purchase.  Look around after you get to Amazon to see all the patterns.

3.  My Man Yadi
It's no secret that I L-O-V-E the St. Louis Cardinals.  Our catcher, Yadi Molina, did the coolest thing this week.  A pitch was thrown inside and as Yadi jumped back ~ well, see for yourself....

Is he not just the coolest catcher EVER!?!  Love him!

4.  Wine Chiller Stick
Still looking for something to give your mom for Mother's Day?  Check out this baby!  It's less than $10 at Amazon and ships for free if you have Prime.  This would make a great item to pair with a bottle for wine for a wedding present or as a hostess gift.  The 3-in-1 chiller stick serves as a chiller, pourer and aerator.  What more could you ask for?!?  You just have to place the chiller rod in the freezer for a minimum of 2 hours and you are ready to go.  How cool is that! (Pun intended.)  Click HERE to purchase or see more about it.

5.  So true....

Now let's get ready for the weekend!  I hope everyone has a wonderful Mother's Day.  Eric and I are headed to our nephew's kindergartner graduation tomorrow.  Big day for him and I'm so grateful we get to be there to experience it.  See you later!
