Five on Friday - February 9, 2018

Oh my goodness -- I can hardly believe it's Friday already!  This week has flown by in a complete blur.  I've got some great things for my five this week.  Let me share ~

1.  Winter Olympics
The Olympics are here, the Olympics are here!  Just in case you didn't hear, the Opening Ceremony for the Winter Olympics is tonight.  I hope my body is ready because for the next couple weeks I know I won't be getting much sleep.  Yes, I'm that crazy person that will be up until midnight watching some random sport that I only care about every four years.
U-S-A!!  U-S-A!!  U-S-A!!

2.  National Pizza Day
Wondering what you are going to have for dinner tonight?  Celebrate National Pizza Day and order a pie from your favorite pizza joint!  What kind of pizza is your favorite?  We are a little partial to the Chicago-style ourselves.  (Hope Eric is reading this and thinking that pizza sounds good for our dinner tonight.)

National Pizza Day - February 9

3.  Surprise Me
Are you a Sophie Kinsella fan?  Her new book is hitting the stands on Tuesday, February 13.  Here's what Amazon is saying about Surprise Me:  After ten years together, Sylvie and Dan have a comfortable home, fulfilling jobs, and beautiful twin girls, and they communicate so seamlessly they finish each other’s sentences. They have a happy marriage and believe they know everything there is to know about each other. Until it’s casually mentioned to them that they could be together for another sixty-eight years . . . and panic sets in.

They decide to bring surprises into their marriage to keep it fresh and fun. But in their pursuit of Project Surprise Me—from unexpected gifts to restaurant dates to sexy photo shoots—mishaps arise, with disastrous and comical results. Gradually, surprises turn to shocking truths. And when a scandal from the past is uncovered, they begin to wonder if they ever really knew each other at all.

With a colorful cast of eccentric characters, razor-sharp observations, and her signature wit and charm, Sophie Kinsella presents a humorous yet moving portrait of a marriage—its intricacies, comforts, and complications. Surprise Me reveals that hidden layers in a close relationship are often yet to be discovered.

Sounds like a pretty great read to me!  You can get your copy HERE.

4.  New Diet Coke Flavors
Have you seen the new Diet Coke flavors on grocery store shelves near you??  Thanks to my friend Jamie, I was able to try one last week at her Scandal party.  The one I tried (and quickly went to the store and purchased) was the Zesty Blood Orange flavor.  YUM!!  As soon as we polish off our 8-pack, I want to try the Ginger Lime next.  The redesign on the can is great too - tall and sleek.  Makes me feel pretty cool just holding one in my hand.  Have you tried any of the new flavors?  Which one is your favorite?

Diet Coke 5 Flavors

5.  In the spirit of the Olympics.....

And it'd actually give the people watching on tv a comparison to what is actually going on

Okay guys - have a great weekend!  I'm helping with a bridal shower tomorrow so I have LOTS of crafting to do tonight while I watch the Opening Ceremony of the Olympics.  Saturday night we will be dancing the night away at the 2nd Annual Sweetheart Soiree at the Heart of St. Charles Ballroom.  This wonderful event is to benefit We Love St. Charles.   If you would like to donate or browse the exciting items in their Silent Auction, click HERE.  Then on Sunday we are planning to head to my home town to celebrate my niece and great-nephew's second birthday.  There's a bit of snow in the forecast, so we're keeping our fingers crossed that it doesn't wreck our plans.  See you back here next week!

Five on Friday - January 26, 2018

Happy Friday friends!  I'm ready for a weekend - how about you?  I've got some great things for you today in my five.  Take a peek ~

1.  National Spouses Day
Today being National Spouses Day is the perfect opportunity to send out a great big thank you to my spouse, Eric.  He is no doubt the nicest guy you will ever meet.  I'm so extremely spoiled by him!  My life certainly wouldn't be the same without him and I'm so thankful he loves me as much as he does.  If you have a spouse, don't forget to give them a special hug today.

National Spouses Day - January 26

Every year for Christmas, my friend Tracy gifts me a bag of her favorites things.  I swear every single year she introduces me to things I don't know how I'd ever lived without it.  This year one of my favorites in the bag were these Lil' Scrubbies facial cleaning pads.  After you use these on your face, you will be amazed at how soft your skin is!  The tiny little bristles really wake up your face.  You should try them!  Click HERE to check them out.
Have you ever stood over your kitchen sink and wondered what that not so pleasant smell was?  Plink is your answer!  Drop one of these little balls down the drain, run your disposal and a refreshing fragrance fills the air.  They magically break up build up fat and food particles leaving your disposal good as new.  Pick yourself up some HERE.

4.  Green Giant Veggie Spirals
Have you spied these Green Giant Veggie Spirals in your grocery store?  I'm going to be on the look out for them.  They are made from 100% vegetables and are gluten-free, with no sauce or seasoning added.  What a great alternative to pasta!!  If one of your New Year's resolutions was to drop a few pounds, the new Green Giant Veggie Spirals could become your new BFF.

5.  Tax Season

Enjoy your weekend!  I'm pretty booked for the next couple of days.  Tomorrow morning I'm having a wedding meeting at my house.  Then tomorrow night we're going to the Ritz for Dancing with the St. Louis Stars.  This event is a fund raiser for Independence Center, which is a community-based rehabilitation program for adults with severe and persistent mental illnesses in the St. Louis area.  If you would like to "vote" for a dancer by making a donation, please consider voting for Mark Bulanda.  You can do so HERE.   Then on Sunday I'm visiting a wedding venue and working in the afternoon.  Lots of fun times ahead!  Pop back in next week to hear all about it.  See you soon!

Five on Friday - December 29, 2017

Hello friends!  Here we are at the last Friday in 2017.  How did that happen?!?  This year has flown by!  I'm not going to lie, the thought of a new year always makes me a little excited.  So many fun things are already planned for 2018.  But let's get on with the last Five on Friday for 2017 ~

1.  Instant Pot Miracle Cookbook
How many of you got an Instant Pot for Christmas?  I got one for my birthday in November and am looking forward to taking full advantage of this hot appliance to pull suppers together in the new year.  I also received this cookbook - Instant Pot Miracle.  It's full of recipes I can't wait to try!  If you're looking for some ideas for your Instant Pot, add this cookbook to your collection and see the miracles your instant pot can pull off for you.  Click HERE to purchase.

2.  Winter Trilogy Books by Erin Hilderbrand
While on Christmas break, I've read four books.  Talk about a nice break!!  Erin Hilderbrand hooked me with her Winter Trilogy Books, which is actually a four-book series.  Winter Street, Winter Stroll, Winter Storms, and her final book Winter Solstice introduces you to the Quinn family and the Winter Street Inn located in Nantucket.  Each heart-warming novel is full of dysfunctional family shenanigans and leaves you anxious to read the next book in the series.  Have you read them?

Winter Solstice (Winter Street) by [Hilderbrand, Elin]

Eric got me this sweatshirt from American Eagle for Christmas and I just might leave it on until spring.  It is seriously the most soft, cozy sweatshirt I've ever owned.  And it's on sale right now!!  You have to check it out!  I got the gray one that says Shine On.  It's also available in a red Peace version.  It's in my cart right now!  Click HERE to check them out.

I'm thinking I need one of these for the office desk.  It conveniently holds your cell at an angle that's easy to view.  You can view your cell or tablet at a glance without having to pick up the phone.  I'm also thinking you could face time while being hands free with your phone.  Yes, I definitely need one.  You too?  Click HERE.

5.  Happy New Year's!

New Year's Eve

Hope you have a fun and safe New Year's!  I'm headed to Kansas City to celebrate with friends.  It will be an evening full of games and good times.  I'm going to post an egg casserole recipe tomorrow that would be wonderful to serve on New Year's Day.  Hope you pop back in and check it out.

Happy New Year's everyone!

Five on Friday - December 22, 2017

Let's hear it for Friday!  With the work week almost over, I'm ready to turn my whole attention to getting ready for Christmas.  Before I share my five for today, I want to share this ~ Today is my parents' 55th wedding anniversary!  Not many people can say they have been married over half a century!  Happy anniversary Mom and Dad.  Hope you have many, many more years of wedded bliss.

Now on to my five ~

1.  Camembert Cheese and Cranberry Sauce Fillo Bites
Have you had these scrumptious appetizers from Trader Joe's?  They are SOOOOO good!!  I'm rushing there after work today to pick up a couple boxes just to have around during the holidays.  We served them at our party last weekend and they got rave reviews.  Trader Joe's describes it the best, "Pairing the Camembert with naturally tart cranberries is an inspired coupling, if we do say so ourselves, and a hint of sweetness neatly ties the cheese and berry flavors together."

2.  The Post
There are so many movies coming out that we want to see!  One of them that I'm pretty pumped about is The Post.  Here's the storyline from Movie Insider, "In June 1971, The New York Times, the Washington Post and the nation’s major newspapers took a brave stand for freedom of speech and reported on the Pentagon Papers, the massive cover-up of government secrets that spanned four decades and four US Presidents. At the time, the Post’s Katherine Graham (Streep) was still finding her footing as the country’s first female newspaper publisher, and Ben Bradlee (Hanks), the paper’s volatile, driven editor, was trying to enhance the stature of the struggling, local paper. Together, the two formed an unlikely team, as they were forced to come together and make the bold decision to support The New York Times and fight the Nixon Administration’s unprecedented attempt to restrict the first amendment."

3.  Birchbox
Scrambling for that last minute gift?  Think about gifting a subscription to Birchbox!  You can get them for girls or guys.  Each month the recipient receives five beauty samples tailored just for them.  They will even email you a printable, present-ready gift certificate to give right away.  Click HERE to check it out.  I've been a Birchbox subscriber for years and absolutely love getting my monthly box!  The girls Birchbox is only $24 right now for 3 months of boxes when you use the code GIFT20.  Sounds like it could be a perfect give to yourself.

4.  New Year's Eve
New Year's Eve is right around the corner.  Don't forget to load up on your party gear!  Click HERE to get your party box for 10 that includes 10 horns, 5 hats and 5 tiaras all in the classic black, gold and silver.

5.  Jingle bells, jingle bells....

No automatic alt text available.

Hope each of you have a very merry Christmas!  After today, I'm on vacation until after New Year's and I'm super excited about having some time off!  I hope we can sneak in one more light display this weekend.  Oh, and I have a ton of gift wrapping to do.  I better get busy!!

Five on Friday - December 15, 2017

Hey there!  Welcome to Five on Friday.  Are you as glad it's Friday as I am?!?  We have big plans for the weekend, so before I turn my attention to that let me share my five for today ~

1.  Free Shipping Day
Still have tons of online shopping to do but hate those shipping charges?  Well, today just might be your lucky day!!  It's free shipping day!  Tons of stores like JCPenney, Target, Macy's, Old Navy, the list going on and on, are offering to ship your order free today.  For a complete list of companies celebrating Free Shipping Day, chick HERE.   Happy shopping!

Free Shipping Day - Changes Annually

2.  Exploding Kittens
Looking for a new game to play over the holidays?  This one is getting some pretty crazy good reviews.  Here's the description from Amazon, "In this highly-strategic, kitty-powered version of Russian Roulette, players draw cards until someone draws an Exploding Kitten, at which point they explode, they are dead, and they are out of the game -- unless that player has a Defuse card, which can defuse the Kitten using things like laser pointers, belly rubs, and catnip sandwiches. All of the other cards in the deck are used to move, mitigate, or avoid the Exploding Kittens."  Click HERE to get yours.

3.  Mini Portable Cool Mist Humidifier
Okay - this one is so cool that it gets two pictures.  Now that the temperature has dropped, have you noticed how dry the air is?  This little baby will take care of that problem!  You can use it at home, in the office or in your car.  Yes - your car!  It is the perfect size to take with you.  It also has a 7 color changing nightlight, but can be set to stay on one single color if that's your thing.  How perfect would this be in someone's stocking?!?  Click HERE to purchase.

4.  2018 You are a Bad Ass Calendar
Looking for some daily inspiration in 2018?  This funny calendar may be just want you need.  It dispenses feisty inspiration and advice to cultivate awesomeness and encourages you to embrace what you love about yourself, change what you don't love, and create the kind of life that celebrates your greatness.  It's HERE if you want one.

5.  Eat your fruit.....

Image may contain: food

Hope you have a wonderful weekend.  I'm loading up my family in a rented 15-passenger van tomorrow night and we are heading to a few Christmas light displays in the St. Louis area.  I'm so darn excited!  We are trying a new place - Magic of Lights at Gateway Motorsports Park - and also some tried and true places - Way of Lights at Our Lady of the Snows and Anheuser-Busch Brewery Lights.  Wish me luck.  Then on Sunday we're hosting a little get together before a Tribute to the Trans Siberian Orchestra concert at our church.  So much fun packed into the next couple days!!  Stop back by on Monday and see how it went.

Five on Friday - December 8, 2017

It's Friday!!  With 17 days left until Christmas, I'm starting to feel the pressure to get things wrapped up so I can sit back and truly enjoy the season.  I'm close.  How about you?  If you're not anywhere near ready, don't fret.  You can get a lot done in 17 days!

Here's this week's five ~

1.  The Crown
Season 2 has arrived on Netflix!  We are going to do our best to pace ourselves and not binge watch the entire season this weekend.  Claire Foy is back to continue playing Queen Elizabeth II and giving us a glimpse into her reign.  Claire has called this season, "completely different, like a completely different show in a way."  Well, we plan on checking out this season and hoping we love it as much as we did Season 1.  Are you a watcher of The Crown?

2.  Salvation Army Bell Ringing
I did my annual volunteering for the Salvation Army yesterday and stood in the cold to ring bells outside a local grocery store.   My friend, Tammy, and I have done this for years.  The Salvation Army exists to meet human needs wherever, whenever, and however they can.  Please consider dropping in some change the next time you pass a red kettle.  But even if you don't have any change to drop in the bucket, smile and say hi to the bell ringer.  Better yet, if it's freezing surprise the ringer with a cup of hot chocolate!

Yesterday when I was walking into work, I saw my first snowflakes of the season.  There was absolutely no accumulation, but it was a wake up call that winter is here.  I'm putting this windshield cover on my wish list because the one thing I hate is having to scrape snow and ice off my windshield if it snows while I'm at work.  If scraping snow isn't your favorite thing either, check out this cover HERE.  As an added bonus, this one comes with a cover and scraper.

Check out this adorable scratch art note cube.  How fun would it be to drop a note on one of these into your kid's lunch bag.  Or leave a fun note for your spouse.  Or just doodle!  It would be a cool thing to find in a Christmas stocking too!  They are available HERE.

5.  Is your Christmas tree up?

No automatic alt text available.

Speaking of Christmas trees, this Thursday my link up will be hosting Show Us Your Tree.  Pop and and link up pictures from your tree or just pop in to see everyone else's.

Have a fantastic weekend!  We've got some fun things on the agenda.  Tomorrow morning we're going to see our nephew's basketball game and then tomorrow night we're going to a restaurant that has been on our list for almost a year.  Sunday I'm baking cookies with my daughter-in-law and her sister.  Can't wait!!  Stop in next week to read all about it.

Five on Friday - December 1, 2017

Happy Friday guys!  Weekends this time of year are the best and I'm excited to get this one started.  Most of my shopping is done and I'm going to spend the weekend wrapping and regrouping to see what I have left to do.  With any luck, come Monday I'll feel like I have this holiday thing under control!  Until then, let me share my five for today with you ~

1.  Gwen Stefani - You Make It Feel Like Christmas
Gwen Stefani added a new Christmas CD to her repertoire - You Make It Feel Like Christmas.  This time of year, I love jamming out to Christmas music and I'm thinking this one would be a nice add to my collection.  Want to add it to your collection also?  Click HERE to purchase.

You Make It Feel Like Christmas

2.  Your Future Looks Bright Postcard Book
Would you like to brighten someone's day in 2018?  If so, you should consider picking up this pack of 12 postcards (6 designs, 2 of each).  How fun would it be to open your mailbox and see one of these looking back at you!?!  They are perfect for jotting a little note and dropping in the mail.  Pick up yours HERE.
3.  Little Debbie Christmas Sampler Box
Looking to spread a little joy this holiday season?  Send someone the Little Debbie Christmas Sampler Box!  The box contains Christmas Tree Cakes, Christmas Gingerbread Cookies, Christmas Tree Brownies, North Pole Nutty Bars, an exclusive Little Debbie travel cup and a surprise box of snacks!!  All for only $24.99 and shipping is FREE!  They only have a limited number so act fast.  Click HERE to check it out.

4.  USB Wall Charger
Do you have a million USB things to plug in?  Well this little baby will handle 6 of them and only use one outlet.  It's compact and lightweight enough to throw in your suitcase when you travel too!  It also automatically identifies connected devices and their unique charging requirement, ensure a safe and efficient charging (honestly, I have no idea what this means, but it sounded important in the description).  If you'd like one to tuck in someone's stocking, or if you'd just like one for yourself, click HERE to purchase.

5.  Are you seeing Santa this weekend....

33 Christmas Humor Quotes #Christmas funny #Christmas Humor

Hope you have a wonderful weekend.  We're looking forward to kicking off the holiday season with a party Sunday night.  With any luck, I'll finish my decorating and get myself organized to face the week ahead.  I'll check back in next week to let you know how that went down.

Five on Friday - November 23, 2017

Happy Day After Thanksgiving - better known as Black Friday!  Will you be out and about shopping today?  I'll be out there with my mom and daughter-in-law.  It's a fun day for us to spend together.  Hopefully by the end of the day I'll have some presents purchased and I can start wrapping by the end of the weekend.

Before we head out into the craziness, here's my five for today ~

1.  Ebates
Do you plan on doing any online shopping this holiday season?  Are you signed up for Ebates??  If not, click HERE and get started earning cash back.  It is so simple and the rewards are real.  My Ebates check last quarter was $159.08.  That's free money folks!!  Start earning yours today.

Are you a fan of the hit TV show Nashville?  Eric and I hadn't seen a single episode up until about a month ago.  We are now about to finish season 5.  Yes, we are binge-watchers!  Oh my gosh we love the show!  Well, if you're a fan too did you know there is a soundtrack with the Greatest Hits from Seasons 1-5.  Could be a great present for that Nashville fan in your life!  Click HERE to purchase.

3.  New Item on White Castle Menu
If you find yourself going to the drive through during this busy season, you might want to check out the new item on White Castle's menu - the Cheddar & Apple Butter Turkey Slider.  This baby features all-natural white meat turkey burger patty topped with smoked cheddar and cinnamon apple butter served on a slider bun.  Might have to give this a try.

White Castle Cheddar & Apple Butter Turkey Slider

4.  Darkest Hour
I'm pretty confident if Eric gets to pick our movie this week, it's going to be Darkest Hour.  Here's what Rotten Tomatoes has to says about it, "During the early days of World War II, with the fall of France imminent, Britain faces its darkest hour as the threat of invasion looms. As the seemingly unstoppable Nazi forces advance, and with the Allied army cornered on the beaches of Dunkirk, the fate of Western Europe hangs on the leadership of the newly-appointed British Prime Minister Winston Churchill (Academy Award nominee Gary Oldman). While maneuvering his political rivals, he must confront the ultimate choice: negotiate with Hitler and save the British people at a terrible cost or rally the nation and fight on against incredible odds. Directed by Joe Wright, DARKEST HOUR is the dramatic and inspiring story of four weeks in 1940 during which Churchill's courage to lead changed the course of world history."

5.  Be nice out there today.....

Okay guys -- wish me luck finding the perfect gifts for my family and friends today!  Hope you have a wonderful weekend and I'll see you back soon.

Five on Friday - November 17, 2017

Happy weekend!  I don't know about you, but I'm pretty darn excited that the weekend is here.  I should be staying home and getting ready for Thanksgiving next week, but instead we're heading to Nashville with some friends.  Hopefully I'll have a tale of us at the Bluebird to share with you next week.

Before all that action gets underway, here's my five for this week ~

1.  Wonder
We saw the trailer for this movie months ago and I've been anxiously awaiting it's arrival.  Well, it's here!  Here's the synopsis from Fandango, "A young boy (Jacob Tremblay) with a facial deformity begins the fifth grade in a mainstream school with the help and support of his mother (Julia Roberts) and father (Owen Wilson). The challenges he faces helps others learn to not judge a book by its cover."  Hope it's as good as the previews make it appear to be!

I tried a new face primer and I think I'm in love!  This is my first time using any primer and the e.l.f. Poreless Primer seems to be a winner.  The cost is definitely right - $6.00 at Ulta and Target.  The makeup primer creates an even surface while reducing the look of pores, lines and shine.  You can even see the years disappear since the formula is infused with tea tree oil and vitamins A and E.  Do you use a primer?  What's your favorite?

If you read my post from yesterday, you heard about my quest to organize my master closet.  Inside my closet I have a dresser and inside the drawers was a total jumble.  Not anymore!!  Thanks to these drawer organizers, I now have neat compartments for my socks and underwear.  Amazon says, "The Dream Drawer Organizers are innovative, adjustable drawer dividers. They are spring-loaded to fit just about any drawer, expanding from 12" to 16". Perfect for organizing socks and undergarments."  Have some drawers that need these organizers?  Click HERE to learn more about them and purchase yours.

We've all been in circumstances when people we love are in really bad situations.  What's the right thing to say?  What can we do?  This book will help you answer some of those questions.  Amazon says, "Written in a how-to, relatable, we’ve-all-been-that-deer-in-the-headlights kind of way, There Is No Good Card for This isn’t a spiritual treatise on how to make you a better person or a scientific argument about why compassion matters. It is a helpful illustrated guide to effective compassion that takes you, step by step by step, past the paralysis of thinking about someone in a difficult time to actually doing something (or nothing) with good judgment instead of fear.

There Is No Good Card for This features workbook exercises, sample dialogs, and real-life examples from Dr. Crowe’s research, including her popular "Empathy Bootcamps" that give people tools for building relationships when it really counts. Whether it’s a coworker whose mother has died, a neighbor whose husband has been in a car accident, or a friend who is seriously ill, There Is No Good Card for This teaches you how to be the best friend you can be to someone in need."

Everyone can benefit from reading this book.  Click HERE to grab yourself a copy.

Five on Friday - November 10, 2017

Happy Friday!  This one really snuck up on me!  Seems like only yesterday we were in Louisville celebrating Eric's birthday.  Now here we are, a week later, getting ready for another weekend.  I'll take it!

My five today are pretty random.  Here they are ~

1.  Harry Potter Socks
Do you have a Harry Potter lover in your life?  If so, you might want to snag this set of 5 ankle socks.  I was all excited about the ones at Target, but now they are out of stock everywhere.  These from Amazon appear to be in stock and ready for you to purchase.  I'm thinking they would be great stocking stuffers or bust up the pack and give one each to five different people.  Check them out HERE.  Wouldn't they also be adorable in Harry Potter goody bags?!?

Harry Potter Juniors/Womens 5 Pack Ankle Socks Shoe Size 4-10 (HP1)

2.  TubShroom
Is your house full of girls with long shedding hair?  Are your drains always getting clogged?  Sounds like you might need the Tubshroom!  This one happens to have a chrome top, so it won't even look out of place in your tub.  As the package says, "Say goodbye to clogged drains forever".

3.  Daddy's Home 2
This movie looks hilarious to me!  It opens today and is on my list to see.  Fandango sums it up like this, "Stepfather Brad (Will Ferrell) and biological dad Dusty (Mark Wahlberg) have set aside their differences, and are content to work together to care for their children. However, their family get-together at Christmas is complicated by the arrival of Brad's fusty dad (John Lithgow) and Dusty's hell-raising pop (Mel Gibson). John Cena and Linda Cardellini co-star in this sequel to the 2015 sleeper-hit comedy Daddy's Home. Directed by Sean Anders."

4.  Digital Infrared Forehead & Ear Thermometer
Cold and flu seasons are fast approaching.  Are you ready?  I got my flu shot and am crossing my fingers we can keep all the bad bugs out of our house this year.  One item you might want to make sure you have handy is a thermometer.  I sure wish I would have had one of these around when Ian was little.  It would have been so much easier if I had had one of these press a button and wait one second models.  Need one for your house?  Click HERE to pick one up.

5.  Life Expectancy...

Have a great weekend everyone!  We are going to a wine event tonight that should be a good time and then we're taking it easy tomorrow.  I have our winter clothes ready to go in our closets and, based on the temperatures lately, think that should be fairly high on my priority list to get done.  Sunday I'm headed to see Bad Moms Christmas with a few neighbor friends.  See you next week!
