Five on Friday - May 11, 2018

Happy Mother's Day weekend!  I'm headed to Kansas City this morning for a special celebration.   Haley, my best friend's daughter, is graduating with her Master's degree today and we just couldn't be more proud of her.

Before I head out, here's my five for today ~

1. Little Women
PBS will be presenting the first episode of Little Women on Sunday night. I'm so excited to see Masterpiece's adaptation of this classic! Here's PBS's summary of the first episode:
"Christmas, 1861. The March sisters – Meg, Jo, Beth and Amy – prepare for a Christmas without presents or their father, a Union army chaplain who is away at war.

Learning to appreciate the smaller things in life, the sisters strike up a friendship with their charming new neighbor Laurie, and his tutor John Brooke.

As autumn of 1862 sets in, the family receives the terrible news: Mr March has been taken ill in an army hospital in Washington D.C. The girls anxiously await news of their father’s fate, as their mother Marmee, accompanied by John, rushes to his side."

2.  Villa Alena Moscato & Peach
A few weeks ago, a friend brought over a bottle of Villa Alena Moscato & Peach wine.  Oh.My.Goodness!  It is the perfect wine for the summer!  Light and refreshing without being overly sweet.  You can find it at Trader Joe's.  Eric and I couldn't get to the store fast enough to load up.  Have you tried it?  I'm thinking it will be a great wine for sangria.

Color Street Nails
My daughter-in-law, Kayla, introduced me to Color Street nails and they are just way too cool not to mention on the blog.  These nail polish strips are super easy to apply and lasts longer than normal nail polish.  And they cost less than a manicure!  You can get them in solids, patterns, glitter -- you name it!  Check out all the options by clicking HERE.

4.  Life of the Party
The new Melissa McCathy movie, Life of the Party, opens today.  From the previews we've seen, it looks pretty cute.  Melissa's movies can be hit or miss, but I think we'll give this one a try.  Here's what Fandango says about it, "When her husband suddenly dumps her, longtime dedicated housewife Deanna (McCarthy) turns regret into re-set by going back to college…landing in the same class and school as her daughter, who’s not entirely sold on the idea. Plunging headlong into the campus experience, the increasingly outspoken Deanna—now Dee Rock—embraces freedom, fun and frat boys on her own terms, finding her true self in a senior year no one ever expected."

5.  What every mom knows...

Five on Friday - March 4, 2016

It's here!  It's here!  Friday has arrived and I couldn't be happier to see it.  I've been chancing my tail all week and I'm looking forward to having a couple days to just breath.  We do have a pretty full agenda for Saturday and Sunday, but it's some fun stuff which always makes it seem better.

Hope you enjoy my five today!

1.  Josh Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon
When I was out of town coordinating a conference a little bit ago, we had Josh Cabernet Sauvignon wine served at dinner.  Loved it!  Since then, I've seen it pop up a couple different places so I guess word is getting around that it's pretty darn good.  I like my wine smooth and this one was like silk sliding down my throat.  Winemaker’s Notes: "Rich, aromatic dark fruits and baking spices delight the nose, yielding fresh plum and blackberry fruit, violet, dried fig, vanilla bean, and Chinese Five-Spice. The wine is layered with smoky and sappy maple wood, roasted almonds, and hazelnuts and finishes with fine, firm tannins."  Now doesn't that sound yummy!  I just might be stopping by tonight to pick up a bottle.  It's been a long week -- I deserve it!

2.  Lemon Cookies
Last Friday when I came home from girls night out, Eric was baking up a batch of these refrigerated lemon cookies.  Oh.My.Goodness! They are DELICIOUS!  You see, Eric works in a grocery store so when something new hits the shelves he is usually bringing it home for us to try.  These were a hit!  Apparently they are only out for a limited time, but I have every intention of writing a letter to Pillsbury and asking begging them to keep them in the stores year round.  Just in case they don't respond positively to my letter and take them away, you better grab some if you see them.

3.  Kiwi Express Shine
Have you ever looked down at your shoes and thought, EEKS - what happened to the toes of my shoes!  I do that quite a bit in the winter when I look at my boots.  Eric found this magic wand.  Just swipe it over your shoes and they look like brand new.  Quickly.  So on my way out of door I do a little swipe swipe and just like that, my boots don't look like I just walked through a battlefield.

4.  Wilton Gold Color Mist
Check this out -- just in time for St. Patrick's Day we have this gold mist.  I'm thinking of so many possibilities for this stuff.  You can spray it on chocolate, icing, ice cream - anything really.

Check out these Oreos that look like gold coins.  Wouldn't they be fun for St. Patrick's Day?!?

5.  Let's Get Lucky.....

Hope you have a wonderful weekend!  I'm headed to a wine tasting tonight.  Tomorrow Eric and I are grading papers for a spelling bee and then Sunday we're taking Ian and Kayla out to dinner to celebrate Ian's birthday.  Hope you stop back by on Monday to hear the details.

Five on Friday - June 5, 2015

Happy Friday everyone!  Are you ready for the first weekend of June?!?  It's hard to believe that June is here already, but I'll take it.  There's so many fun things to do in the summer!  Before I get out there and start doing weekend stuff, I want to share my five for this Friday.

1.  Mimosa Muffins
Mimosa Muffins anyone?  Saw this mix on Sam's website and I must look for it the next time I'm in the store.  A little mimosa muffin with orange glaze just sounds perfect for a summertime brunch.  Speaking of brunches, it's on my summer bucket list to host a brunch for some of my friends.  Be expecting some of the brunch planning to show up on the blog and in my Pinterest pins.

2.  Spy Movie
Melissa McCarthy always makes me laugh and I love kicking back to watch her movies.  It's just a chuck of time you don't really have to think or concentrate on the plot.  Her newest movie, Spy, is popping in theaters today and I'm looking forward to seeing it.  I'm counting on it being a real hoot.

3.  Cooper's Hawk Rhubarb Wine
It seems like as the weather warms up, I like to drink wines that are a little lighter and sweeter.  My son and daughter-in-law introduced us to this Cooper's Hawk rhubarb wine and I fell in love.  The reviews say the palate is light-bodied, starting sweet but finishing on a refreshing tart note.   The color is a nice, light pink.  Just perfect for a summer evening sitting outside.

5.  Let's waste some time.

Motivation Inspiration, FiberArtsy.com
Have a wonderful weekend everyone!  Hope you do something that's fun and refreshing.  I have a bridal shower to attend on Saturday that I'm very much looking forward to.  It's for Suzy -- the lady I'm helping with her wedding (and you know how much I L-O-V-E weddings!).  I'll be back on Monday with a full recap.

Five on Friday - February 20, 2015

Friday is finally here.  Boy am I glad!  Sunday night is my Oscars party so I have a ton to do between now and then.  Thank goodness I have friends coming over tomorrow to help.  But before then, here's this week's Five on Friday.

1.  Apothic Crush
We tried a new wine on Valentine's Day -- and it was wonderful!  I'm a fan of Apothic wines and here's another one to add to my list of favorites.  Apothic Crush is another limited release and will be on shelves between February and April.  Per their website:  "The limited release blends Petite Sirah and Pinot Noir to create luscious aromas of caramel and chocolate, with a velvety smooth mouthfeel."  If you see a bottle, pick it up and give it a try.

2.  BLT Salad
Speaking of Valentine's - I made a BLT salad I found on allrecipes.com that was superb and complimented our Shrimp and Scallop Stroganoff perfectly (see it hiding in the upper left corner of the picture?).  If you missed the recipe for the stroganoff, you can get it HERE.  Here's the recipe for the fabulous salad:

Ingredients
1 pound bacon
3/4 cup mayonnaise
1/4 cup milk
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper
Salt to taste
1 head romaine lettuce - rinsed, dried and shredded
2 large tomatoes, chopped
2 cups seasoned croutons

Directions:
Place bacon in a large, deep skillet.  Cook over medium high heat, turning frequently, until evenly browned.  Drain, crumble and set aside.

In a blender or food processor, combine mayonnaise, milk, garlic powder and black pepper.  Blend until smooth.  Season the dressing with salt.

Combine lettuce, tomatoes, bacon and croutons in a large salad bowl.  Toss with dressing, and serve immediately.

3.  Oscars Host
I'm anxious to see how Neil Patrick Harris does hosting the Oscars.  Little Doogie Howser is all grown up and will be hosting one of the most challenging events, especially after Ellen was such a hit.  I'm rooting for him!  If you want to print a ballot or an Oscar bingo card, pop over HERE.

                                     Neil Patrick Harris

4.  Macey Hensley
Did you get to see Macey on Ellen this week?  ADORABLE!!  In honor of President's Day, take a look.  I would love to have her on my trivia team if presidents was one of the categories!

5.  Feeling
It's been cold here -- like REALLY cold.  Makes me feel like this...

Enjoy the weekend guys!  I'll be back on Monday to let you see a peek into what I did.  Please keep your fingers crossed that the weather doesn't mess up people's ability to get to my house.  This darn weather!!

Five on Friday - January 9, 2015

Boy -- this was a tough week to make it through!!  The first week back to work after the holidays is almost always a challenge.  How about for you -- tough or easy?  The good news is the weekend is in sight!!  YAY!!!

I received so many exceptionally cool gifts this Christmas!  I finally got the blanket scarf I've been seeing everywhere.  Also, I'm super excited about getting a pedicure with my friends thanks to Sherri's gift certificate to our favorite salon.  Today I'm going to highlight a few of my other gifts on my Five for Friday.

1.  Brix 4-Piece Tasting Party Gift Set with Cutting Board and Knife
Would you check this baby out!!  There are 4 bricks of chocolate and the packaging lets you know what kind of wine it goes best with.  So excited to have a little wine, cheese and CHOCOLATE party!!  Very cool gift.

2.  Acure Organics Day Cream Gotu Kola Stem Cell + 1% CGF
This stuff -- AMAZING!!  As described on Birchbox, "chlorella growth factor which protects collagen and elastic fibers for stronger, more elastic skin.  Guto kola stem cells stimulate cell turnover, help fight free radical damage, and firm skin tone, restoring and evening complexion."  Besides all that stuff, the soft scent of orange is the most amazing thing in the morning when I'm getting ready.  I might even rush through washing my face a little just to get to the putting on the lotion part.  Love it!!

3.  Deodorant Removing Sponge
We've all been there -- completely ready to step out the door, we look at ourselves in the mirror and what do we see?  We see those ugly deodorant marks all over our super cute outfit.  Well, now I have the fix for that!  To use, briskly rub residue from your clothing with Hollywood Deodorant Removing Sponge.  No need to use water.  Safe on most fabrics.

4.  The Bachelor
I'm such a sucker for The Bachelor show (and Eric might also be a little hooked on it).  So what do you think -- do you think they pay the bachelor extra to literally pick out the craziest contestant to stay around a few weeks?!?  Who in their right mind would keep the drunk, teetering girl over some of those others?  Do you think the chick that wouldn't leave will set him straight?  Tune in next week for all the answers.

5.  Anybody still keeping their New Year's resolutions?

We are looking forward to having lunch with some friends on Saturday.  We also have to take down our Christmas decorations -- don't judge, yes we still have our decorations up.  I just love them so much I drag my feet in taking them down.  Stay warm friends!  Thanks for stopping in and hope you come back soon.
