Weathering the Storm

Welcome to Thinking Out Loud Thursday where I talk about something on my mind and invite you to link up and do the same.

Today my mind is circling around the pandemic and how it has, and is, truly affecting each of us differently.  A friend of mine had the below graphic on her Facebook page and I couldn't agree with it more!

We are all in this storm together rather we are living our lives like nothing is happening or you are sheltering in place and rarely walk out your front door.  Each of us has different comfort zones.

There's a new term you might start hearing about the pandemic:  PTSE.  Pandemic Trauma and Stress Experience (PTSE) is something we are all experiencing in some form or the other.

One of the podcasts I listen to, Here's Something Good, addressed this very topic last week.  On the podcast, Dr. Gail Saltz explains that signs of PTSE are fear for the future, weariness for the present, and grief for the lost past.  Any of those things feelings you've had?  I'm definitely raising my hand over here and shaking my head yes!

Some of the suggestions Dr. Saltz has for overcoming PTSE are to cultivate and preserve positive experiences and relationships, identify your stressors caused by the pandemic, seek out ways to specifically address what's causing your stress, identify and maximize coping tools and seek help when it's needed and accept help when it's offered.

If you have a minute, I encourage you to take a listen to this episode of Here's Something Good.  It's under 10 minutes long and Dr. Saltz offers sound advice.  Actually, I'd recommend adding Here's Something Good to your podcast library and listen everyday.  Each episode is packed with aspiring good news!  And couldn't we all use a little more good news in our lives right now!

Now it's your turn - what are you thinking out loud about today?  Link up and share!

You are invited to the Inlinkz link party!

  3. I completely agree that while we are all in the same storm we are not even remotely close to having had the same experiences.
