Weekending - May 7, 2021

Hope everyone had a wonderful Mother's Day weekend.  It was a bit cold and rainy in our neck of the woods, but we still managed to make the best of it.  Here's a rewind ~

We discovered there is a bird's nest in our wreath on the front door.  A nest that is now home to 5 eggs.  It will make for an interesting few weeks as the eggs hatch and the baby birds get big enough to fly away.  This has happened before and I'm nervous that we will open the door and the birds will fly into our house!

Friday night we headed to the theater to see Wrath of Man.  My son brought it to my attention that when I mentioned this movie on the blog on Friday, I said we hadn't seen a good action film in a while.  He reminded me that we had seen Nobody and we did love that movie.  My bad.  Wrath of Man was intense at times and definitely full of action.  It feels good to once again be able to sit in front of the giant screen and take in a movie!

The clouds ushered in Saturday, but I had pure sunshine in my heart.  I was getting to spend the morning with my daughter-in-law, Kayla!  We had plans to go to the Spring Market at City Foundry.  It actually ended up turning into quite the foody trip, which didn't make me one bit sad.

Our first stop of the day was Chouquette. This bakery in the Tower Grove area of St. Louis has long been one of my favorite spots.  They are currently taking online orders only, then you can pick up your treats on site.

Kayla and I ordered our favorite things and breakfasted in the car before heading to the Spring Market.  It was as yummy as it looks!

Roughly 35 local vendors were waiting for us at the Spring Market.  What drew us there in the first place was the Joya booth, but neither of us ended up coming home with any of their jewelry.  My big find was some herbal bug spray and Kayla snagged a gorgeous mask.

We were thrilled that The Sweet Divine food truck was there and we leaped on getting a treat to hold us over until lunch.  Cupcakes make the perfect breakfast dessert.

Did The Sweet Divine sound familiar?  They were the winner of Season 6 Cupcake Wars and returned to place second in Cake Wars in 2016.  Their stuff is good!

While we were out and about, we decided to drop by Sugaree Bakery.  I'm a huge fan of their pot pies and quiches.  We patiently waited our turn to enter the store and were able to snag the last two cherry pies.  Timing is everything!  A pot pie is also in my freezer just waiting to be baked.

From there, we stopped by a nursery, and Kayla got a couple of marvelous plants for their house.  With all the shopping, we had worked up quite an appetite.  We agreed the place to go for lunch was the Balkan Treat Box.

We had gotten food from their food truck years ago but hadn't been to their brick-and-mortar store before.  Best decision for lunch!  I was a little afraid that it wouldn't be as good as I remembered it being, but it was every bit as delicious!  We both got the Chicken Doner.  So good!

Kayla dropped me back off at home and as soon as Eric got home from work we hopped back in the car to drive to my parents.  We got to spend some time with them over dinner.  I'm so glad I got to see my mom on Mother's Day weekend!

Sunday was another day of gray, cloudy weather.  Eric was up and on his way to work early while I cuddled in bed with my favorite pastry from Chouquette, a cup of tea, and a magazine.  The perfect way to start the day!

Ian and Kayla picked me up later in the day to treat me to lunch.  We ventured to Cooper's Hawk, a favorite of ours, and had the best lunch and sangria.  I'm loving sitting down in restaurants again!

And that's a wrap on the weekend!  This week on the blog I'll be sharing my April Amazon purchases.  Looking back, I got some really cool things in April!  You won't want to miss seeing them!

  1. We found a nest on our front door flower basket on Easter. There were four eggs. A few days later, 3, then 2, then 1, then zero. Zero eggs and no babies. Then I noticed the parents hanging around again and there's a new egg in the nest. What the heck?
