Trip to Savannah and Tybee Island - Part 1

Welcome to Thinking Out Loud Thursday where I talk about something on my mind and invite you to link up and do the same. Today I’m thinking about a trip to Savannah and Tybee Island I took a few weeks ago with my friend.

When I resigned from my job of nearly 30 years, I decided to take a couple weeks off before starting at my new employer. My friend Linda was game to go on a short vacation with me so we began researching destinations. Since it was a period of new things, we looked at places neither of us had been before. The winner was Savannah and Tybee Island!  We planned to explore the city for a couple of days and then head to the beach for a few days of relaxation.  The perfect plan!

Our flight from St. Louis landed in Savannah on Monday night and we made our way to the hotel. We would be staying right in the heart of the historic district at the River Street Inn. It’s a cute little hotel right on the river. Our room had exposed brick and a quaint feeling.

Dinner time had passed us by and we were hungry so we ventured across the street to a restaurant recommended by the hotel called Treylor Park (it’s that a cute name!). We ordered some cocktails and a couple of shareables. One of the things we ordered was their popcorn shrimp. It came served on a bed of popcorn! So cute and yummy!

After a good night’s sleep, we were ready to start exploring Savannah. We had made reservations ahead of time at The Olde Pink House. Highly recommend!

The signature cocktails were a great way to toast our trip and the food melted in your mouth.

Linda got the fish tacos and they were served like a charcuterie board. How cute is that!

After lunch, we hopped on a trolley to take a tour of the city.  We thought it would give us a good overview of the city and we were right!  The trolley weaved its way all over the town and we even learned a few things about the area too.

When the tour was finished, we went back to the hotel to freshen up a bit for happy hour and dinner.  Savannah is known for its rooftop bars and we wanted to experience one.  We chose The Lost Square which was the rooftop bar of the Adila Hotel.  The drinks were unique, but the view was just so-so.

From the rooftop bar, we walked to dinner at A.lure.  Loved this restaurant!  The food was good and we had great service.  The dining room isn't huge, so I suggest getting reservations if you know you are going there for dinner.

On the way back to the hotel, we saw the most beautiful sunset!  Great way to end our day.

I'll share more about the trip soon.  Now it's your turn to share what you're thinking about today.  Link up and show us!
