Five on Friday - August 11, 2023

So excited that today is Friday!  We have our niece and nephews visiting this weekend and are so excited to be hosting them!  We have all kinds of fun stuff planned like SkyZone, a waterpark, and maybe even a short ride on the Amtrak train!  I know we will be exhausted come Monday, but our hearts will be full.

Now, on to my five for today ~

1.  Krispy Kreme Fall Flavors
It might still feel like summer, but fall flavors are starting to creep in!  Krispy Kreme started selling their new fall flavors - Pumpkin Spice, Pumpkin Spice Cake Donut, Pumpkin Spice Cheesecake Swirl, and Pumpkin Spice Maple Pecan.  If that doesn't scream fall, I don't know what does!

2.  Back to School Time
It's back to school time and that means we'll be seeing those big yellow buses on the road and in our neighborhoods.  Please remind your kiddos of the bus stop safety rules mentioned below.  An average of 121 people are killed in school bus accidents every year according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.  Let's try to lower that number this year!

I ordered this blouse last week from Amazon.  It's so darn cute!  The Swiss dot fabric is soft and comfortable.  I picked the yellow color and it's the perfect shade.  If yellow is not your thing, it comes in 24 other colors.  I'm so tempted to get one in a couple other colors.  One is bound to be perfect for you!

Rhys Bowen's newest book, The Paris Assignment, was released this week.  I recently read her book, Where the Sky Begins, and loved it.  That prompted me to want to read this book.  Well, the title might have been the reason too.  It seems anything with the word "Paris" in it I want to read!  Another selling point is it's free to read if you have Kindle Unlimited.  Here's the summary ~
A courageous wife, mother, and resister confronts the devastation of World War II in a heartbreaking and hopeful novel by the bestselling author of The Venice Sketchbook and The Tuscan Child.

Londoner Madeleine Grant is studying at the Sorbonne in Paris when she marries charismatic French journalist Giles Martin. As they raise their son, Olivier, they hold on to a tenuous promise for the future. Until the thunder of war sets off alarms in France.

Staying behind to join the resistance, Giles sends Madeleine and Olivier to the relative safety of England, where Madeleine secures a job teaching French at a secondary school. Yet nowhere is safe. After a devastating twist of fate resulting in the loss of her son, Madeleine accepts a request from the ministry to aid in the war effort. Seizing the smallest glimmer of hope of finding Giles alive, she returns to France. If Madeleine can stop just one Nazi, it will be the start of a valiant path of revenge.

Though her perseverance, defiance, and heart will be tested beyond imagining, no risk is too great for a brave wife and mother determined to fight and survive against inconceivable odds.

5.  Here's a thought...

Have a fabulous weekend!  We are going to enjoy the heck out of our little visitors and hope to survive until their parents come on Sunday.  I'm already dreading how quiet it will be when they leave.

  2. Have a fab time with your niece and nephews. It sounds like you have a fun weekend planned.
Oh wow! Those Krispy Kreme doughnuts sound amazing! I think I want the Pumpkin Spice Cheesecake Swirl one.
That is great advice about bus stop safety. My youngest will be taking the bus to college in September, it will be her first time taking a bus without us. I will remind her of these things.
