London - Day 4

Our trip to London was a month ago and I'm still recapping the days on the blog!  Today I'm sharing Day 4.  If you missed the previous days, you can find them here ~

Day 1 and 2          Day 3

Day 4 started with us loading the Hop On Hop Off bus in hopes of seeing some of the London attractions.  We very slowly worked around the London streets seeing very little.  After an hour, we got off and started walking to our lunch destination.  The bus was a disappointment.  I had remembered in Paris the Hop On Hop Off bus was wonderful.  It whirled you around town and you were able to see many things from the upper deck of the moving bus.  In London, it was different.  We saw very little and the streets were jammed, making progress very slow.  Walking was a much better option for us.  Our plan after getting off the bus was to walk to our lunch destination, Ave Mario.  Once we started walking, we were able to see some beautiful views.

Lunch was a treat!  Ave Mario is an Italian restaurant in the Covenant Garden district and is part of the Big Mamma family of restaurants.  The establishment had an adorable storefront.

We were hooked when we looked it up online and found their pasta carbonara was served in the whole round of pecorino.

As we ate, we were surrounded by the décor of bright colors and quirky artwork.  Highly recommend getting a reservation if you’re in London and giving this place a try!

With very full tummies, we launched back into city for more sightseeing.  Our first stop after lunch was St. Paul’s Cathedral.  Famous for its dome, the interior will take your breath away!

Lots of important events have happened in this cathedral, but the one that I was most interested in was the marriage of Prince Charles to Lady Diana Spencer.  I wanted to see the actual aisle she floated down in that dreamy princess dress straight up to the amazing alter.

From St. Paul's cathedral, we walked to and over the London Bridge.  In the background, we had great views of Tower Bridge.

Our next stop was The Tower of London.  This is the location where the Crown Jewels are on display (no pictures allowed).

We arrived just in time to do the last led tour of the day.  It was well worth our time to take the tour!  We learned so many interesting facts about the history of this medieval palace.

Some of the things at this location in addition to the Crown Jewels includes the Moat, Line of Kinds, Armoury in Action, St. John's Chapel, Medieval Palace and the Battlments.  It's recommended to spend at least three hours at this location to see everything.

We stayed at the Tower of London until it closed then took the Hop On Hop Off bus back to Buckingham Palace and our apartment.

For dinner, pizza seemed like the perfect choice. Conveniently, there was a Pilgrim Pizza nearby, so we decided to check it out. It was fantastic and definitely lived up to its reputation!

By the time we had called it a day, we had walked 5-1/2 miles for the day.  We got to bed and dreamed of the adventures we had planned for Day 5.
