Five on Friday - May 8, 2020

Happy Friday!  I'm so looking forward to getting off work today and getting home.  We have our garden ready to plant and I'm hoping we can actually get some plants in the ground.  Before the weekend gets started, let me share my five for today ~

1.  Happy Mother's Day
First, and most importantly, I'd like to wish my mom and mother-in-law a very happy Mother's Day.  We won't be able to see either of them this year, but they will definitely be in our thoughts.  It had become a tradition for my mom to spend the weekend with me and we would do all the fun things - shop, eat out, go see a movie.  This year I'm giving my mom a rain check on those things and am counting down the days until we can once again enjoy those activities.

MOTHER’S DAY – Second Sunday in May

2.  Dead to Me
Netflix is giving us season 2 of Dead to Me starting today!  Eric and I loved the first season and we're looking forward to seeing what Jen (played by Christina Applegate) and Judy (Linda Cardellini) are up to.  Actress Natalie Morales will be joining the cast this year as Michelle.  The show is witty and full of surprises.  Looking forward to watching this weekend!

3.  Auntie Anne's DYI Pretzel Kit
Is one of the reasons you're missing going to the mall the craving to have an Auntie Anne's pretzel?  Well, you don't have to wait for the mall to open any longer!  Auntie Anne's is selling a DIY At-Home Pretzel Kit for $20.  It comes with enough supplies to make 10 original or cinnamon sugar pretzels.  Make it a family affair by getting everyone to pinch in on the making.  Order your kit HERE and get ready for the smell of homemade pretzels to fill your kitchen!

4.  Big Summer
Jennifer Weiner's latest book hit the shelves on Tuesday and is being labeled the best beach read of 2020.  I'm not for sure if we will all be flocking to the beaches this summer, but I can hold this book in my hands and pretend I'm at the beach!  Here's the summary from Amazon ~
Six years after the fight that ended their friendship, Daphne Berg is shocked when Drue Cavanaugh walks back into her life, looking as lovely and successful as ever, with a massive favor to ask. Daphne hasn’t spoken one word to Drue in all this time—she doesn’t even hate-follow her ex-best friend on social media—so when Drue asks if she will be her maid-of-honor at the society wedding of the summer, Daphne is rightfully speechless.
Drue was always the one who had everything—except the ability to hold onto friends. Meanwhile, Daphne’s no longer the same self-effacing sidekick she was back in high school. She’s built a life that she loves, including a growing career as a plus-size Instagram influencer. Letting glamorous, seductive Drue back into her life is risky, but it comes with an invitation to spend a weekend in a waterfront Cape Cod mansion. When Drue begs and pleads and dangles the prospect of cute single guys, Daphne finds herself powerless as ever to resist her friend’s siren song.
A sparkling novel about the complexities of female relationships, the pitfalls of living out loud and online, and the resilience of the human heart, Big Summer is a witty, moving story about family, friendship, and figuring out what matters most.
                              Jennifer Weiner

5.  How's homeschooling going?

Have a great weekend!  I'm planning to do some of my favorite things.  Things like reading, starting a new puzzle, and watching a little TV.  I'm also looking very forward to seeing my son and daughter-in-law, even if it is at a social distance.  I've never been a hugger, but I am looking forward to the day I can wrap my arms around them again.  See you next week!

April Amazon Purchases

Welcome to Thinking Out Loud Thursday where each week I ramble on about something I'm thinking about.  Today I'm thinking about the items I purchased from Amazon in April.  These are some of my favorite posts on other people's blogs because I'm always up for seeing what treasures they've found on Amazon.

My shopping, in general, was slowed down considerably in April.  I was working from home and didn't really have a good feeling about the economy.  Staying at home and knowing that I wouldn't be having any parties or guests over, there were few items I felt like we truly "needed".  That being said, the delivery persons still made a decent amount of stops at our house.  Here are some of the items that landed on our doorstep ~

Outside Things
Our front porch was in need of sprucing up so I ordered a few items to help ~

You know how I love pillow covers for the inside of our house.  Well, I decided to do the stay thing for the outside!  Pillows and covers for summer - check.

Our rockers need a bit of a refresh and I knew I didn't want to go to a local store for the paint.  Amazon to the rescue!

We were in need of a new bird feeder and this one did the trick.  While I was working from home, it was wonderful to be able to look out the window and watch the birds enjoying their snack.

Personal Things
Eric was in desperate need of new house slippers.  I thought I could wait and gift him a pair for Father's Day, but his old pair wasn't having that.  He loves the new ones!

This white blouse had been on my wish list for a long time and I decided I needed it for going back to work.  Can you really ever have too many white blouses?  This one is great and it works perfectly under sweaters or jackets.

Every morning after I wash my face, I squirt a little of this in my hands and apply it to my face.  The ingredients are known to plump and firm, boost elasticity and collagen production.  It can't hurt, right?

What a joy it is to step into the closet and breath in the aroma of these sachets!  I mailed one to a few of my friends and got rave reviews from them as well.

Pandemic puzzle number 3 is going to be this 1,500 piece beauty.

Library Additions
It's hard to believe I only purchased one book last month!  But the one I purchased is a great one!

It's also hard to believe that April is over!  I've already started my May collection of Amazon purchases.  Wait until you see some of those!

Now it's your turn - what's on your mind today?  Link up and share!

Weekending - May 1, 2020

Hello there! We had the most gorgeous weather on Saturday and Sunday.  It was so good for the soul to be outside and feel the sun shining on your face.  But now the sun is gone for a bit.  As I type this on Monday afternoon, the rain is pitter patting on the window and I just want to curl up in bed and read a book.  And that is likely just what I'll be doing as soon as I finish this post!

You might have noticed that Facebook added an emoji last week.  You can now click "care" as one of your response feelings.   Brilliant idea.  We're all going to need to be a little more caring to get through this challenging time.

Did anyone make it by Dairy Queen over the weekend?  Do you notice their new blizzard flavor - Frosted Animal Cookie?  That soft pink color looks pretty delicious.  It's on my list of things to try.

Sunday morning I crept out of bed bright and early to make scones for breakfast.  There's something about the smell of baking scones waffling through the house that brings me so much peace.  Eating them isn't so bad either!  I blogged about them HERE.  Give them a try - they are so scrumptious!

Eric and I worked in our garden area and have it ready to plant.  Hopefully this week I can get the plants and herbs I want to grow this year.  Oddly enough, I have not stepped foot in a store since the middle of March.  I've been sheltering in place and taking it very seriously.  This is my third week back at work and it's an odd feeling to be out in public again.  Maybe this will be the week I'll venture out a little further and step into a retail store.  How are you feeling about being out and about?

Sunday evening we dropped Eric's car off at the shop to have some repairs made so we're sharing a ride for a few days.  Our schedules don't really line up, so it's going to be a little challenging to get through the next couple days.  I'm showing up early to work and Eric is having stay after he gets off waiting for me to pick him up.  These days we're finding out through what we're missing the things that are important to us.  This week I'm finding out how truly grateful I am that we typically have two cars!

Have a great week!  Be safe and, most importantly, be kind.  Everyone is processing this pandemic situation a little differently.  What really bothers you, may not bother the next guy and visa versa.  Let's get through this together by respecting each other and being kind!

Five on Friday - May 1, 2020

It's May!  I'm not exactly sure where April went, but never the less it's behind us and we have wonderful May to look forward to.  I love that the weather will consistently start being warmer and the earth will seem more alive.  Let's kick it off with my five for this week ~

1.  Rachel Hollis Planner Pre-Sale at Target
Were you one of the ones that missed Rachel's planners at Target last time because they sold out so fast?  Well, you have another chance!  The pre-sale for the Spring collection is happening right now and the official release date is Sunday.  Snag your favs before they are gone.  Click HERE to check them out!

2.  Caffeinate Your Soul:  52 Monday Mantras
Speaking of pre-sales, Caffeinate Your Soul:  52 Monday Mantras is releasing May 5.  If you preorder your today it will likely be in the mailbox next week and you can start making your Monday (and every day) a bit bright.  And we all know we could use a little brightening right now!  Here's the summary of Erica Gwynn's new book ~
Mondays can be the worst. Some weeks it seems like the only way to get through the day is a gallon of coffee and a prayer. Instead of drowning that start-of-the-work-week-bitterness in endless cups of caffeine, pour yourself a cup of encouragement with Caffeinate Your Soul, an insightful guide to making Mondays more manageable and meaningful.
This collection of short, but impactful, Monday Mantras will guide you through a year of Mondays, meeting you where you are and then walking you step-by-step to where you want to be. Erica Gwynn provides a year's worth of lessons, in sip-sized segments that will teach you how to:
Step out in courage and carry on after hardship
Grow through what you go through
Give yourself grace and give up the personal guilt trips
          Get comfortable being UNcomfortable
Act on your dreams and do hard things
Clear out the clutter in your life, say no more often, and fail forward
Rooted in faith, and packed with practical takeaways, Caffeinate Your Soul will leave you feeling uplifted, energized, and ready to take on your day, just as any good cuppa coffee should.

3.  Strawberry Malibu Rum
Looking for a new warm-weather drink?  Check out the new flavor of Malibu rum - STRAWBERRY!  Think strawberry daiquiris, strawberry mojitos, strawberry everything!  I'm looking forward to making a refreshing spritz with it by mixing 1 part Malibu Strawberry, 3 parts sparkling wine and 1 part soda water.  Pour everything in a glass with ice, give it a little stir and you are ready to sit back and sip.

alcohol, malibu

4.  St. Louis Zoo Live Webcams
Taking the kids to the zoo right now may be out of the question, but watching the animals on the St. Louis Zoo live webcams can happen!  The penguins are visible every day.  Tune in throughout the day to see keepers feeding the animals and cleaning habitats, birds swimming and diving, resting, preening, building nests and sometimes even raising their young at Penguin & Puffin Coast.  The other exhibits start streaming at 9:00 am and vary by day.  Here are the schedule and links:

Sunday: Gorillas at Jungle of the Apes
Monday: Polar bear at McDonnell Polar Bear Point
Tuesday: Grizzly bears at Centene Grizzly Ridge
Wednesday: Gorillas at Jungle of the Apes
Friday: Polar bear at McDonnell Polar Bear Point
Saturday: Grizzly bears at Centene Grizzly Ridge

5.  Is this how you feel too?

joke

Hope you have a wonderful weekend.  We are going to try to do some planting in the garden and finish pandemic puzzle number two.  I'm also planning to make a new cookie recipe and if that goes well I'll be sharing it next week.  See you soon!
